Orienteering race (STB 1) 15:00 [5]
shoes: inov8 X-talon 2012

mass start. Good fun, turned the wrong way into the bushes at 16 which cost me the win. Managed to claim the hill climb singlet somehow though, despite being unaware which legs they were based on!

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3]

warm up cut a bit short. Tweaked my groin/hammy racing too :s

Orienteering (STB 2) 16:20 [5]
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 4

oops.

Was having a nice clean run, pretty happy with it and was gaining on angela :) but brain explosion on 17, ala middle dist NZ champs last year but on a sprint scale. Lost 1.20 and dropped from 2nd to 9th. Awesome racing from Rachel though, she's got speed to burn!

Aim for the rest of the weekend is to keep my head and to check my descriptions. Keep that under control and let my running take care of itself :)

Running 50:00 [2]
shoes: inov8 X-talon 2012

gentle run in wilton bush with bun, gin and rita. Took them on the easiest graded tracks but Rita and I had to keep waiting at the top of the hills?! :P

Orienteering 39:10 [3]

twilight at ainslie south. Cool course. took the terrain training route choice on the long leg despite it prob taking significantly longer than the lower track. Loved the last 6-7 controls, got my orienteering mojo back :)

biking (commute) 55:00 [3]

to work +twilight. Then home cia lower tracks of ainslie and a bit of a drag race through the storm water drains :D

Orienteering 45:00 [4]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2011

Going to have to wait for bun for the time on this one, which could take weeks judging by the current state of her AP :)

WU/WD and sprint intervals on ANU, and rests.
5x ~600m courses. I'll be fine at STB if the courses are this length...

I just had no top end speed, and was constantly having to deal with differences between the map and ground. Good training and thankfully not too hot though.

Football 1:50:00 [3]

ANU preseason training/trials. Went for 2hrs 20(!) but there's always a lot of standing around/lining up etc. I'd be keen to actually time the session, and monitor dist and heartrate, but can't wear a watch while training so bit hard.

Anyway, haven't had a soccer training in over 1.5years, let alone a trial. Thought I'd go along and try my luck, explain my situation to the coaches and see what happens.

Things have obviously changed a bit since I last trialled for a team, or maybe it's just FFA procedure - the coach was very statistics driven :s
So we got given stats for:

a timed dribbling test (i had the fastest time when i did it, but then Sarah went and smashed me by 4s. She reckons i'd have got her if I'd seen her do it first rather than the other way round, but i doubt it lol)

shooting (alternating L and R foot, 3 for a goal, 1 for a save, 0 for a miss - which seems a flawed way of doing things, you can have an awesome shot that just misses, and you can have a weak shot on target that the keeper isn't bothered at all by)

1 on 1, point for each time you get past your opponent.

1st touch. Not sure how this was recorded, think we just got judged visually.

weird way of doing things. had a 20min game at the end though which helped. And coaches were really understanding afterwards. Sounds like I'll get in the premier league and reserves squad off one training even though I'll miss the next 3 trial sessions (incl fitness tests!) while I'm in NZ.

Looks like I've got myself back playing soccer - going to have to be pretty organised and make sure this doesn't effect my O training. otherwise I'll reconsider whether I play or not.

to work in the rain. Home in the sun. Happily my clothes dried out by the time it came to home time :)
Considered heading out for a run once I got home, but was too hungry and decided a (extended) taper was called for for STB.

A two week taper after one week of training is suitable right?

stretching. Which i really felt the effect of not doing after training last night
8 AM

Running 1:38:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2011

Cockies run with just the 5 of us there today. Managed to get there on time, solely due to driving over with devil. Swear we started later than I arrived last week though!

Legs were feeling last nights training, especially on the uphills. Couldn't follow devil when he surged (not really, but still pulled) ahead up the fire trail to top of Majura. Thankful for the rest on top.
Did a nice long extended bit on the single tracks in the pines, which apparently would have been vetoed if the group was larger. Not sure why. I love the stuff, and mainly was trying to put off the uphill to come ;)

Then a mission up over hackett hill and Ainslie. Though Ainslie didn't feel nearly as bad as I thought it would thankfully.

Worth the wait for the huge bacon and egg bagel at Deli Marco afterwards. Glad the cafe didn't burn down before we got our coffee and food despite the distinct fiery smell!

Pretty glad i've got new shoes awaiting me in NZ, The trabucos are a bit dead, but not as much as my inov8s from yday (thankyou ngaurahoe)
