A/W black mtn event from couple of years ago. same as i tried a couple of months ago. Much better this time round, even found the termite mound at 5. Didn't find the one at 6 though, although i seem to remember it being collapsed and tiny last time. Didn't find the termite mound at 10 in the head high grass either, but GPS has me in centre of circle.

Note

afterwork soccer probably not worthy of a training entry this week. A whole 6 of us, which actually turned into quite a fun 3 aside game in the near pitch black conditions

through uni to the gym then up to saddle with bun. eventually decided to do hill sprints, which i prob wouldnt have had the motivation to do if i'd gone by myself. beaut temp for running at! cold for anything else though!

knee stiffened up really badly after WNT, but was alright to run on. agony up and down stairs though. Feeling a lot better today though (fri)

Running hills 15:00 [4]

10 hill sprints. good having someone to push me along! Will check but was a couple of seconds faster than when i first started hill sprints here. which is a good sign, seen as when i started i hadnt done any speed work in 9 months!

bumped into GrantM too who kept us company for the middle 5.

WNT from Mace and Ben's. Warm up through to the gate on bruce ridge. Then night o on the NOL men's middle from March. Was roughly with devil and grant m for first few, then took a bit of adiff route at the same opportune moment that my headlamp ran out of battery! Luckily bumped into Jose who was on his way back to tend to the soup, so did a quick swap :)
Not too bad on the night nav, but caught devil and grant back up at 11, which we all proceeded to make a mess of. Eventually gave up and contoured out, messed my way through 12 and 13 and joined up with the rest at the underpass before doing the last bit.
Good soup and bit of warming up after!

to and from. wasn't as cold as i feared on the way home, infact only one of my fingers was white on arrival!

Running intervals 36:00 [4]

bilbies ints. 2x2min, 4x4, 2x2 with half rests. gps has me as 570m, 520m, 1.01km, 1.01km, 1.04, 1.03, 570m, 540m.
surprised by those last two as my legs felt crap on the 2nd to last due to the micro drinks break we had, but felt alright again for the last one. May well be cos i found myself alone on the last one, as Mace kept up with devil and the fast boys for the last bit, and i lost my pacer. (macer?)
was with mace every second int, but would get ahead on the rests, so when we turned around for the back int i'd have to pick her out amongst the other runners to pace off. not so easy when she sneakily switched from a pink to black top!

black mtn 40th anniversary event.

have to admit, i usually hate gimicks in orienteering; be it get 3 out of 5 controls half way round, a 1:2500 blow up midway, or a silly dress competition (all real examples). so i was not impressed when i turned up to find that i'd get no points today if i didnt use the 1970 black and white map of black mtn!
but was pleasantly surprised, once i got into it i really enjoyed the course and map. was a good simplification exercise and seemed to manage with the 4 inches= 1 mile scale alright (about 1:15000) along with altering for magnetic north.

felt a bit out of it to start with, maybe the antibiotics? and legs had nothing. but from 3-4 things started to click and i felt better and better. good terrain training with the undergrowth and enjoyed the relative lack of spider webs!
really loved having few features and next to no tracks on my map as i feel over-reading is an issue i have. however i did keep finding people taking track routes (must have had the recent map!), jogging around and taking the same time as me going through terrain!
quite a few hesitations but no real mistakes. didnt feel like i was pushing at all though.
