Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Up through csiro, found a little track that went to the top of little black mtn which was cool, then down to start.

Orienteering 30:30 [3]
shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212 2011

Decided saturday is going to be my orienteering training day when there's no other o on. So did an old summer series course up on black mtn. Tried to concentrate on my bearings however i found it so so hard when all i could think about was not running face first into spider webs!
Had a couple of little freak outs after my avoidance techniques failed, including ripping off of my shirt and shaking out any hitchhikers. :P
Until i can get over my phobia of spiders in the face my orienteering in aus might be a bit lame...
sure i'll get over it though, last wknd when racing wasnt that bad cos i was concentrating more on the course than anything else.

Anyway, today i just got sick of it all, so not the best session training wise

Running warm up/down 7:30 [3]

home.

on the plus side i'm 90% sure the pain in my shin originates from my calf really, and my ankle doesnt seem to be any worse off after soccer last night, though overall its still a bit tender from last wknd.

Mtn Biking 44:00 [3]

thought id give running a rest today...(apart from casual soccer later lol)

tried to fit it in before 3hr lecture at 12 but left it a bit late so turned into a short ride. Over the tail of black mtn to bruce ridge, couple of tracks there and loop back. Will try get out and explore more this weekend :)

casual game with the other students. pitch was crap and ball was going everywhere. didn't push it as dont want to redo any of that ankle stuff! think we lost pretty soundly though.

still feeling this hotspot of pain on my left shin :s

Running intervals 16:00 [5]

2x3mins
2x2mins
4x1min
4x30s
with half rests

First strength specific session in nearly 10months and either its the dust in my room (it accumulates really fast!), or my lungs knew it was 10months!Still, felt good and strong and the 30s blasts to finish were a killer.

the loop i measured up prior to the session turned out to be a bit short so had to rerun some of it. A decent mix of uphill, downhill and mixed intervals though i felt there was a bit too much downhill. Got to learn to go hard down too i guess, but might try and tweak the route a bit.

However, my left shin's been getting pains all day, even walking up the stairs at work, and I DONT LIKE IT! :( Last thing i want right now! Will get in touch with the uni fitness centre 2mo and line up a massage as I think (hope) it's related to the tightness in my calf muscle ive had lately.

Running 33:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2011

had the alarm set for 7 to get out for a run given i had no time last night (was gonna go out after dark but my flatmate advised against it). By the time 8 came around I finally woke myself up properly and dragged myself out. Didn't feel too bad after the first 5mins as often is the case.
Beaut misty morning on black mtn, the dew meant you could see the absolutely sstunning spider webs. but also meant you could also see the huge spiders a bit better :s
Have a range of aches from wknd, mainly in lower legs. and ankle was a bit tender when i got home

Running warm up/down 8:00 [3]

had some real sharp pain in my left shin area :( ice and rub tonight, hope it goes away fast!

Orienteering 17:53 [4] 3.2 km (5:35 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212 2011

twilight event at yarralumla bay, (went to check i spelt that right and found the map was actually stirling park. still no idea on my spelling though)

lots of open fast running. Shin was alright once i got going. Once again struggled to identify the shapes of the copses of trees as i ran towards them. Got confused for no.1 as i couldnt see the huge concrete culvert on the map for ages. Not much to say bout the rest really, 12 and 13 were trickier in the bush, got a bit confused with the tracks at 12 (stupid), and missed 13 a bit, losing maybe 20-30s. Apart from that time loss just came from running speed and having wait for kids and old kids to punch at controls! I was nice and waited to hand the clippers toa couple runners coming into controls behind me too, as they're a pain to get a hold of when swinging around the controls!

Mtn Biking 35:00 [3]

went for a spin up on black mtn, not really a spin though. Got a list of things to modify on my bike when i feel like spending money;
the tilt on the seat likes to revert to right back which is annoying and uncomfortable. so might need a new shaft or seat, will have a play with it and try and fix it so it stays though.
otherwise i need to either get gloves or some neew handlebar grips as sweaty hands and old grips leads to nervous downhill times!

legs felt good, and the weather was so so much cooler and nicer than yday damn it!

Orienteering race 1:30:00 [4] 9.9 km (9:05 / km) +420m 7:30 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212 2011

NOL long distance mass start.

was feeling pretty uninspired on the start line, and legs feeeling alright considering the previous day's efforts. However anything I had in me the first leg ground out. 3.8km straight running along a track in the beating sun! I was pretty dead by 1, and then had to turn around and go 1/3 of the way back (and 1/3 of the way up ainslie) to no.3! stopped there for close on a minute and took on 4 cups of water and a leppin, then proceeded to slog up to the top of ainslie with Shannon and a couple of others.

From #5-6 my race went downhill, figuratively and literally. we headed straight past the lookout on top of mt ainslie, and suddenly the other three were gone from around me! honestly, it's like i blinked and they were gone!

I muddled my way to 6, then 7 was straight down the hill (175m descent). by this stage i was completely dehydrated and stopped half way down to have a good retch, nothing to bring up though. Had to put all my concentration on my ankle as it was rough stuff and incredibly steep. Stopped afew times to check my direction but to no avail, I did spike a control at the bottom and thought i was in luck for a moment. Lucky I checked my descriptions then, as i was at 113 (on a rock) as opposed to 112 (on a rock). checked my future descriptions to make sure i wasnt at one of them, which it wasnt. So turned left, only to discover 150m further along the hillside that i'd turned the wrong way. And on checking again, it turned out 113 was my no 13! So can't have read it right the first time.
Eventually stumbled into no. 7, which was the butterfly pivot. Saw Jo and the front runners just finishing their first loop as I came into it so knew I'd lost a fair bit of time since no.3 when i was right behind them. Managed to get around the butterfly loops a bit messily but ok.
Then had a leg 14-15 which literaaly was following a track behind some houses, and the control was 20m max off the track, in rough open, on a rock. By this point I was gone mentally, just way too dehydrated/heat exhausted. I zoned out down the track, then wondered why i hadnt seen this road i was meant to cross. Decided I must have already crossed it in my haze, saw a rock on the side of the track and started looking around it for the control. After bout 20-30s standing there looking dazed, Jas and Laurina ran past. At first I thought they must be on their second map and ahead of me, but eventually it dawned on me that i hadnt crossed the road at all, I was only half way along the leg, and they'd just overt aken me! Must have looked like an absolute idiot to them!
Can't remember too much of the last loop to be honest, except that Jas shot ahead on the downhill and we dropped Laurina somewhere. Collapsed in a shivering wreck after finishing. thanks to the people who brought me water and sugar, and kathryn for riding my bike halfway home as i was in no state to!
Took until monday night to feel half myself again. Guess that'll teach me to hydrate properly before racing! even if it means needing the toilet every 2mins before the start.

10mins off the pace, but doesnt really mean anything to me. I was just glad to finish!
