Note
(injured)

woke up in the morning knowing i really didnt want to run on my ankle. really didnt want to let angela and kate down but in the end it just wasnt sensible to run, so pulled out. didnt tell angela before she ran, and she had a good run which made me feel marginally better

Note
(injured)

went to the hospital after the sprint yesterday. pretty much i got to the point where i want to know what is specifically wrong with my ankle and if im doing it more damage running on it. so went with al about 8.30 and got 4 xrays taken by 9.30, then had to wait until after 12.30 for a dr to look at them.
pretty much there's no apparent fracture, which is good. the bad news is there's not much i can really do other than rest and try and find strapping that works for it. it could take over a month to come right, but ive only got 2ish weeks til WOC :s still dont know if its a bruise close to the bone or joint, or ligament damage. its not a normal sprain, the real pain comes when my foot moves up and to the left, which seems to happen a lot in the course of a run!

dr said i could run if i could deal with the pain. will take it as it comes i think, wont be doing much if any of oringen. for the relay tomorrow hopefully i'll be 3rd leg, so whether i run or not depends on how the other two go.

Orienteering race 42:07 [5]
(injured)

i dont know if the painkillers are working, but if they are then i def dont want to stop taking them!
couldnt really run properly so my aim was to hit things cleanly. not happy then when i overshot no.1, oops! 2 was straight down hill, got it cleanly but cant get any speed going downhill. 3 was long leg and route choice. with the 2 short legs before it i didnt have time to select a route til i was 100m in. then it was easy for me to decide to go left to the road, as atleast i could run on the road! busted a gut up the hill, slowly, and spiked the control. had trouble contouring to no.5 as it was very rocky. fine through 6 and 7. meandered to 8 but spiked it at the end. then lost my shoe in a marsh to 9, considered doing rest with 1 shoe, but too much to go so spent a minute getting it back on. made mistakes on both 9 and 10 with not wanting to climb hills (classic mistake, just do it!) and hobbled in to the finish from there.

felt like i was running about 65% but was the kind of map where it prevented me making the 5-10min mistakes a fair few people were making. but then they had bout the same times as me cos i was hobbling along so much slower! anyway happy just to get around, felt much better than waiting around at the finish. not sure if it was the best idea and if it were an individual race tomorrow i wouldnt race, but dont want to let the other girls down. we'll see.

Orienteering warm up/down 25:00 [3]
(injured)

1.3km run to the start from prestart. ankle was so dodge along it that i was seriously contemplating not starting. then went around warm up map when i got there. was so scared that id missed my start cos it took me so long to get around the 4 warmup controls (atleast that would have taken the decision out of my hands!)

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3]
(injured)

ankle was no good in inov8s warming up so had to revert to trail shoes. painful warming up even after painkillers so didnt have a complete warm up

afterwards had minimal warmdown as ankle was a pain and i felt like vomiting from the painkillers.
but man, isnt angela just awesome!

Orienteering race (wuoc sprint) 15:10 [5]
(injured)

so started off alright in the town part, pretty much ran into a pedestrian on way to no.1. ankle was managable, giving pains every 15s or so. lost steam through the middle part, think just lack of proper training last couple of weeks and going out a bit hard. made a mess of exiting the spectator, lost about 25s missing the gap in the unpassable fence and had to go back. relooking at the map i could have kept going to another gap, but didnt see at time
last few controls were agony as were in a steep area with gullys and spurs. couldnt get down one hill slope on ankle so just went down on my bum!
so so disheartened at finish, felt real sick and ankle seized up

Orienteering 30:00 [3]
(injured)

so didnt do the long distance today. was so hard waiting at the finish and seeing the map, then seeing how the girls i was about the same as at the world cups finished up! very tough race though, glad that i'm fresh for the other races!
went for a jog out to the sprint training map that i missed the other day to check how my ankle will fair tomorrow. strapping was too tight but on the roads etc its managable. still getting intense pain every 50steps or so when i put it a bit wrong. so frustrating! but yeah managable, just cant turn tight left or go downhill very easily

Orienteering 40:00 [3]
(injured)

model for wuoc, went out with no strapping and just had a crap time of it. cant run properly and cant read map whilst looking where to put foot. made some pretty big mistakes just jogging so not inspiring! pretty much decided its stupid to even try and run long distance. give the foot another day and hope like hell i can do the rest of the week

Orienteering 10:00 [2]
(injured)

strapped the ankle up and went out again to see if it improves things. it did for the first 5mins but then was agony again. also managed to get a branch right in the face, so now have a swollen eyebrow too!
on a lighter note, james put a toad in kate's bag. ahahaha so sick but made my arvo!

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]
(injured)

long dist training for wuoc, on the map right next to comp area,, infact we parked in the event centre, which was a bit weird!
ankle felt better than yday on the first couple of controls, but then my nav went a bit off. got a bit stuck in the thick blueberry and got pains in ankle later on so just walked in in the end, feeling stink.
going to leave it as late as possible to decide whether to run long dist on tues or not. it may be better to have the extra day for the ankle if it means i can go hard in the sprint and middle (and relay)
