Orienteering 36:00 [3]

michaels training on the hutt river banks.
ran the 5k mtn bike course, then had tighter navigation for the last 1 and a bit km. Man i reckon the river bank is more boring to run along than the waterfront, and thats saying something! didnt want to push it too hard with the traverse on sunday, but time with a map in hand is always good

Running warm up/down 7:00 [3]

Note
(rest day)

marking lab reports all morning, demonstrating all arvo. kind of felt like running when i got home but i think a rest day would do me good, specially with the traverse on sunday. can't hurt anyway.

Orienteering 2:10:00 [3]

rogaine from rongatai with laura. was bout 6.15 by the time we started as i was late out of the lab as always and there was epic traffic across town. I could have run there faster!
Looped around the south coast and island bay, up mt albert and round melrose. were only aiming to be out 2hrs but got a bit stuck in the forest in the dark. got a decent score though, with 3hrs i reckon we could have won :)

Running 34:00 [3]

stretching out the legs along the tracks in wilton bush. wore my x-talons this week, so no falling over on the track back down!
just made it back in time for the lab at 2.

Orienteering (after work 6 Eastbourne) 23:00 [3]

Finally kicked the last students out of the labat 6.45, by which time i thought there'd be no chance of running the orienteering. went out to eastbourne anyway to catch up with a friend, and was suprised to find the robertsons still out there. got talked into doing the yellow eventually. was a good course, but got pretty dark before i finished. didn't find one in the bush and had to stop under street lights to read the map :) need to work on that map memory!

Running 47:00 [3]

was meant to have a preseason football match, but some wimp decided you cant play football in 120km/hr winds :( stink

so went on the group run which was just as fun. legs felt mint after the easyish weekend. felt great up to top of wrights hill, but stomach started playing up on the way down. had kind of a stitch, but really a bit higher, maybe a heart attack? must be all those pies...
jamie and hamish got ahead on the way down, and magnus and tessa dropped off so was all on my lonesome. still managed to not fall over, thats almost a week since my last fall now!

Mtn Biking 30:00 [3]

out to the map and back again. went bit further this time cos i couldne be bothered running the extra distance. got a massive bit of fern stuck in the gears so got nice and dirty getting that out!

Orienteering 1:20:00 [2]

going around the white and yellow checking sites. then had a run round the senior boys to check length etc. Feel kinda sorry for the juniors cos of the long as grass, but they'll just have to cope don't have many other options.

Managed to lose my compass. must have taken it off while making changes to the map. couple of controls later i went to check my exit direction, looked down and noticed how naked my thumb was! went back to where id stopped and grid searched in long grass for 10mins to find it. Had just bout given up and was quite looking forward to using the brand new compass ive got at home when i found my dear old grubby sweaty compass nestled deep in the grass :)

Note

I reckon some of the blocks of hydrabad are about ready for mapping again. could make an awesome sprint map with the macrocarpa strip ,a couple of the other blocks and part of the township.
should have stopped for a look on my way back to bach but my stomach was controlling me by then and demanding food.
