Running long (hills) 2:45:00 [3]

a wicked run with magdizzle tessa mick and mum up kapakapanui. Real nice day for it. starts with a few river crossings, then straight up the spur. 1.5hrs of climbing/running to the summit, which was just in the cloud so we missed out on the views :( then a mean run along the ridge and past the hut, was real cool stretching the legs out but constantly having to think bout where you're placing your feet. and HEAPS of mud
then the last half hour is picking your way off the spur, bit harsh on the knees but all good.
and found an awesome swimming hole at the end :D

Note
(rest day)

unlike some people (grarah say) i won't include time spent on the wii, even though i burnt a good 60kcal on it! but then i ate a bit of bread, so no net calorie loss. damn.

Running 10:00 [3]

run up to the car. obviously didnt warm down enough after yesterdays o-ing cos calves were tight as!
6 PM

Football 1:25:00 [3]

9 people today...almost enough for a team!
A good session though it does feel a bit weird not doing straight fitness and speed work. Elliot is a big believer that you can get fit and fast with a ball at your feet, so we don't do straight shuttles or anything.
8 PM

Football (indoor) 30:00 [3]

One of those awkward games where you're way better than the other team, so don't want to go too hard out and crush their spirits...so only won 22-0(!)
man i missed sooo many shots tonight. think its playing outdoor with a proper weight ball and then coming indoor with the lighter ball, all my shots go too high.

Orienteering race 36:30 [5]

afterwork event 1 at marsden.
went pretty hard as had an easy day yday, and managed to keep pushing, even up johnstons hill. the scale was way out on the hill, but there was a bit of route choice on the roads, not bad all up.

Football 1:22:00 [3]

um, so only 4 of us tonight! really starting to wonder where we're gonna get a team from. most of last years team seems to have disbanded with the whole coach debacle so looks like mariko, alice and i (plus a few others if they come back) will have to start afresh with a load of newbies.

anyway, more intense than last thursday, but that's not hard. did some cool drills. so awesome to have fresh drills after last year! getting my touch back after the summer break, those indoor skills are showing :)

will go to training on thursday, but only because the o-ing fell through, and elliot promised more people are going to show!

Running 58:00 [2]

group run from Tessa's flat. Think magnus needs to learn the definition of recovery run, cos steep hills is certainly not in my definition!
went over mt albert, along that line of hills to the south coast and houghton bay. then straight up the hill on the otherside of the bay and along that line of hills back to mt albert and the flat.

but then there was more than enough food to compensate for the run :)

Orienteering race 57:37 [4]

OY2 on Hapua Wetlands

thought it was a pretty good course actually. started up on the airstrip and the first 4 controls were pretty basic (having set national relays on teh same area :p). but then 5 and 7 were bit trickier and 8,9,10 were longer legs. was happy with my routechoices and felt smooth and pretty good despite yesterday. lost time at various points in teh course (5,8,11 atleast) when i had trouble figuring out which forested reentrant was which, and kept dropping below the control and having to climb back up.

still a good run, and sure i could have beaten tim with fresh legs! disappointing turn out though, i reckon would be better putting far away events in middle of the 'season' when people are used to going to o-ing, not right at the start.

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [1]

a slow walk up the hill to the start counts right?
2 PM

Orienteering (control collection) 30:00 [2]

managed to get our car load into collecting controls, oops! so Tessa and i headed back out into the blazing sun (seriously, how did i run in this?) to get controls. couldn't persuade my body to run much at all though.
