Orienteering race 32:15 [4]

Camp champs. had next to no warmup as had to start before all the kids. ended up at 3 before 2, when my bearing went wrong. apart from that pretty sweet. beaten by nick and ali, but i can live with that.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Orienteering 1:10:00 [2]

Simplification in the morning.
Practice course in the arvo.

Orienteering (star relay) 15:00 [5]

we'll call it 2x3mins and 2x4mins
formed a coaches team with sarah and tessa and despite sarahs best efforts in having her map upside down and going to 3x the controls she was meant to, we still beat all the kids teams by over 5mins...

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

putting tapes out for the rogaine team building in the morning.
word of advice: formline reentrants in light green areas are not good contol sites for junior camps (if at all)! took forever for me to put that one out!

apparently im more skilled than i ever could have thought as one of the kids supposedly managed to find one of the controls before id even put it out!

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

worked backwards through the aiming off exercise with tessa to check controls. then went back through the other way following kids.

this was prob my favourite exercise of the week. i found it real useful anyway!

Running 25:00 [2]

jogged around the bush tracks back at camp with tessa. was going to use them in the night relay, but turns out the map was completely warped in scale. and as we had trouble enough following the indistinct tracks in daytime, decided prob wasnt the best to send the kids out on it at night!

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1]

map walk and visualisation. first exercise of the week

Orienteering 30:00 [2]

putting couple of controls out on the line course. i got the dodge part of the map, there was no way i could get it to match the ground, much confusion ensued.

hopefully taught a couple of kids bout contours, but who knows if they were listening or not

Orienteering 15:00 [5]

tag relay. in a coaches team with tessa, sarah todd and kris. had our chances of winning killed when kids hurt themselves and tessa had to pull out to help them. resulted in me and sarah turning up to a control to find noone to hand over to, and having to do the next one too. I ended up doing the loop 1 1/2 times in the end as i filled in for injured kids too.

Orienteering 5:00 [5]

sanddune sprints.

got a little map, had to sprint down dune, decide which sand sculpture the map related to, then sprint back up. and repeat if you got it wrong (which i didnt :-)
