biking (commute) 40:00 [0]

For some reason I'm a bit tired today?...

Silly seminar at 4, and ANUWFC council meeting at 6 meant I couldn't make twilight :(

Mtn Biking 20:00 [3]

up up up to the lab. and aaaall the way back down again.

biking (commute) 35:00 [0]

1 PM

Running 40:00 [3]

Then, as I was at the lab, thought I'd take the opportunity to go for a lunchtime run :-) Honestly, motivation to run is so much easier to find when you're surrounded by bush compared to inside on a computer!

just the usual, up, around and over blackie, taking the time to go over on my ankle on the way down. Then exactly the same on little blackie (ankle included)
6 PM

Football 1:00:00 [2]

just some drills. Trialling out coaches for next year. Bit hard to judge when they only have half an hour, 7 players and a scrap of pitch (cricketers wouldn't let us use the bit of pitch they had booked but weren't using.)
8 PM

Football 40:00 [3]

Women's 9 aside. Only had 9 players (incl 3 fill ins, not sure what happened to all our regulars?!)

All over the show, seemed like we had no midfield. Despite lack of any sign of structure we actually played a really nice passing game. Good fun, plenty of running, and the just a really enjoyable game. Both sides were relaxed and enjoying it - unlike last week!

Yoga 45:00 [1]

Ouch.

Will power alone prevented my legs from cramping I think.
7 PM

Football 35:00 [3]

Actually felt reaaally good?! Plenty of running as usual. And managed to score a sweet goal, powered in to the bottom left from out side the box...(pretty sure that's just cos i mishit it though...otherwise it would have been over the bar and into the creek ;)

Drew 3-3 after leading 3-0 at half time. Got a bit feisty towards the end, but as usual all I was doing was laughing at how wound up everyone was getting...my bad :)

Running 31:00 [2]

jogging around primary school champs courses. Legs felt ok, R knee is a bit dodgy, it started pestering me after 3hrs yday. Hopefully will ease up over the next couple of days!

Orienteering (spring 6hr rogaine) 5:51:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2012

Having made my mtbo debut last week I thought it was time to make my proper rogaining debut...
Sah bailed on me on thursday, but set me up with Ben.G as a partner. Luckily he'd done an 105km ultra the weekend before, which handicapped him back to my pace!
We planned a pretty reasonable course, with some options for add ons/cut offs towards the end. Our route split from all the other teams after about 1.5mins, and didn't see another team until over 2hours in! Somewhat luckily for us, we hit the dodgy bits early - where tracks were non-existant and the resulting bush bashing was...fun... From then on we were cautious when it came to relying on smaller tracks, but were pleasantly surprised to find they were all there, and infact on occasion they went further than marked on the map!

Made 3 mistakes which resulted in 15mins extra bush bashing (trying to cut a corner early on - lesson learnt!), 1.5km extra running and a bonus hill (missing a non-existant track junction), and 1.5-2km extra running (got carried away running in unusually open bush and completely missed the 2nd water stop, but couldn't afford to skip it).

Comfortably made it home on time, but would have been a different story if the last track we were aiming for had been one of the non-existant ones!
Energy and leg wise I was fine, no cramps and running the last few km on the flat I still felt reasonably good. Probably thanks to the peanut butter and banana sandwich at 4.5hrs, which made me feel invincible...

Lesson of the day I think was that fallen over trees are a rogainer's best friend. they give you 10-20m free passage through otherwise horrible bush! It almost feels like cheating :)

Ended up winning XO 6hr, Craney and Rob.W got 1600 odd points to our 1300. (they beat all the 12 hr teams too though! We had 4th highest score over all 6 and 12hr teams I think)

6 PM

Football 1:04:00 [4]

Thursday mixed, won 4-1. Played up front for a bit, felt lazy cos I didn't have to run nearly as much as normal! ...so went back to midfield. Scored both our goals, which count double cos I'm a girl - win. Missed a heck of a lot more than I got in though. oops.

And filled in for a friend's team after, but really just ran around aimlessly - they're in our league so wouldn't want to help out too much ;)

Orienteering 30:07 [3]

Twilight at the Pinnacle.

Grass wasn't too long, and it had cooled down a bit, so that kept me happy! Bit of tracking already when I started, but did my best to ignore it. Plenty of running on bearings, and some decent hills. Just the one miss really on 8 (maybe, or 9? need to see the map). Got dragged too far left rather than up and over the hill, lost 20s or so. Got caught by Lachy at 10, and he got away heading to 13 and 14, but still had him in sight (just) at the finish.
Good to be back out on a course :-)

Orienteering warm up/down 23:00 [2]

Token warm up and a plod around the map for a warm down.

5 PM

Running 37:00 [3]

argh too much biking! My legs felt like they'd forgotten how to run, all bow-legged and weird!
over to and up little blackie from the office, a couple of extra single tracks then back to work.
7 PM

Football 39:00 [3]

women's 9 aside against Belwest...who watched us play last week and decided to stack their team with belco players! Not cool. Would have helped to have a ref that called some fouls as well...

lost 3-2. and no, I'm not bitter at all ;-)

biking (commute) 1:00:00 [0]

to/from uni. over to Remembrance park and back. Set a new record across town to get back to uni in time for soccer
6 PM

Football 32:00 [4]

Won 3-1.
Did a lot of sprinting the length of the field, only for the ball to not come to me and having to turn around and sprint all the way back on defence...

Mtn Biking 1:33:00 [3]

My Mtb orienteering debut.

Really enjoyed it. Fast fire trails around Pierce's forest, a couple of single tracks, but think it was faster to just blast the longer trail routes. Managed to stay on my bike, not embarrass myself time wise, and didn't encounter any snakes. So an all round win really!
Took a couple of silly routes where I decided it would be more fun to take a longer/hillier route than go back the way I'd already ridden...not really the right mindset for a race, but I was just out to enjoy myself :)

I think I'm ACT champion now, by means of being the only W21A entrant!

Also learnt that refolding the map while riding is slightly harder than refolding while running...

Running 57:00 [3]

Run over HH and up Majura. Legs eased into it after 10mins or so but felt like lead heading up the last bit of Majura.

Stunner of a day, but was nice and cool by the time I finally got around to running :-)

Running warm up/down 35:00 [3]

woohoo! What felt like an actual training session!

out and back to little blackie for some sweet sweet hill reps. 24 degrees. Haven't been running in anything that warm since Europe! Was suffering a bit when I was out in the sun

Running 16:30 [3]

Found a nice single track on the side of little blackie to do efforts on, as my usual hill is out in the sun, which I didn't really fancy today!

10x 30s hill sprints on a 1.30 cycle, which was a bit tight in terms of rest. Also a baby 16s hill sprint at the start, when I misjudged how long the route would take me to sprint. oops.

6 PM

Running 36:40 [3]

Headed over to Majura from home. Legs had absolutely nothing in them for the first 15mins or so, then got a bit better, but not much. Arms were even more tired! So kept it short and headed home.
40min soccer games take it out of you it seems, as you can go hard for the full game. I need to learn how to be lazier and let someone else do more running for the team...

Football 35:00 [3]

Summer 9s. Womens div1.

Double header night. So much more fun playing Women's as I don't have to try and chase down or tackle guys!

team works way better together too. Took a while to get into it, but put 4 away in the 2nd half to beat Belco 4-0.
After just over a season of trying, (and blasting 2 over the bar in this match) finally scored my first summer soccer goal :)
7 PM

Football 36:00 [4]

Game 2 against the other ANU team. So half of prems on our team, vs half of SL1 + some prems on their team.

But we had the advantage of having Bundy in goal, and a 45min break between games.

5-1 win and my 2nd goal of the season :-)

Running 2:25:00 [3] 24.5 km (5:55 / km)
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2012

Sweet run from Orroral tracking station with Grace, Craney and Devil. Along the closed Cotter Hut track, (although none of the rangers we saw seemed to care). out and back to cotter gap where there was a token handful or two of snow. Then down to smokers, which despite what was claimed, you could not just roll a ball down. and back along the grassy valley, where my legs tried their best to die on me. Probably fair enough though, I was caking in them in a solid layer of mud :)

biking (commute) warm up/down 25:00 [3]

To bruce ridge from uni, and home afterwards

Running warm up/down 14:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2012

The first session of a new training program :)

Running intervals 18:00 [5]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2012

Easing back into proper training. 6x2min ints on bruce ridge single tracks. Just took alternating left and right options at each junction. Surprising how hard it is to remember if you went left or right at the last junction when you're going interval pace!
Next time I think I'll randomise it more by going left if I'm at an odd numbered split time, right if it's even.

All that aside, the intervals were ok. Got a bit breathless on the 5th interval, but got it under control.
8 PM

Football 35:00 [4]

Summer soccer? HA!

like revisiting middle of winter trainings more like. Constant rain which got heavier throughout the game, and cold! Was ok unless someone kicked the ball over the fence onto the road, and then you had to stand around and wait and get cold...

Forgot how hard it is playing against fast strong boys! Certainly no point trying to beat them with ball at feet :s

ultimate frisbee 20:00 [2]

what i was lead to believe was a set of scratch games held on Fellows every wednesday. Turns out it's actually an organised league. And we played the most organised, pro team. They had team shirts and everything.

biking (commute) 35:00 [0]

Note

Everything is sore...including my abs?! Think that one may be from the pressups I was set to doing when I asked sah and moody if there was anything I could do to help in the kitchen though.
7 PM

Football 35:00 [3]

Was meant to be reffing summer soccer, but the tuggers team didn't show up...so i could have just gone home 2.5 hours earlier!

Had a scratch game instead, so got to play which is far better than reffing. Scored 2 goals, the 2nd of which was (though is say so myself) an amazing goal from a long run into the box at a corner. Completely fluked it and the ball fell straight onto my right foot haha.

1 PM

Running 2:30:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2012

Run up mt Gingera with the boys. Wasn't quite up for the earlier start to go with Craney and Grace :)
About 5mins up Stockyard spur I was regretting doing an hour run last night, especially that hill out of majura pines...
Thoroughly impressed with Hoggster, Devil and Rob who ran the whole spur. As soon as Jase started walking I took that as a sign that it was acceptable, and happily joined him! (probably made it 2/3 up before this happened) Utterly smashed on any uphill after that. Could manage the flats, and loved the down hills as usual, but legs seized up on any hill! Got pretty used to staring at the boys backs for the whole run!

For once I recognised my own limits and bailed out of the add on option of going up Ginini too, although all the others continued on. Bit of a shame, as I was looking forward to stretching ahead on the downhill :) Def the right decision though, not sure I had another hour in my legs! (and the description of Ginini doesn't make me feel i missed out on much!)

Good fun and good views from the top :) Possibly not the best thing for my sore ankle, but it can have tomorrow off!

Sunday Oct 7, 2012 #

6 PM

Running 55:00 [3]

Cruised over to majura pines to do a middle-esque course. But there's about 50% pines left, and the other half are on the ground. So I cruised some tracks (after busting my ankle going down the hill :s ). Then decided to hit that epic hill. The on I always look at and think 'next time'.
Looks as impressive from the top as it does from the bottom, but really isn't that bad. only 7mins from the bottom to the top of majura ridge.

Orienteering 58:00 [3]

Set a course on N Ainslie on 1:15000. Couldn't find half the features for the first half of the course. Stupid termites. they're out to get me I swear.
loved running in the rain though :)

Running 41:00 [3]

More like a 21min run around and up ainslie. stopped and enjoyed the sun with Magda, malte, fiona and the dog for a bit. Then 20mins around and back down to the bike.

Did a midair sidestep to avoid stepping on a lizard. Realised half way through that it had legs and wasn't a snake! Certainly woke me up and i was checking every stick after!
