beautiful day so let mum take me up the sugarloaf. Was a really nice walk and ankle was alright on the way up, but had to take it pretty careful coming down. felt tweaks a couple of times but worth it i reckon. We were still faster than all the other walkers we saw. Found some really nice welsh blueberries on the way up, not as abundant as in sweden, but still tasted good! I'm becoming quite the wild berry coneseur, even if i cant spell it!

got out around the lanes again after visiting gran in hospital. went other way around this time, meant a longer more sustained hill. breathing still sore but better than yesterday. and didnt stop to pick blackberries this time round :(

been in berlin for a week, did lots of walking, prob more than i should have on my foot. Dont think i can really count it as training though. Now back in south wales with grandparents and mum. Have got the bike out of the shed and fixed it up, so as soon as i harden up enough i'll get out and brave the roads on it. better than doing nothing anyway.

Coped alright with not running when the weather was crap here, or in berlin when i had stuff to do. but today its beautiful, i have nothing much to do, and all i want is to go out on the hills and run!

up and round the lanes. breathing was terrible going up the hills thanks to my german cold. stopped and picked blackberries on the way back, but as tempting as it is, i didnt include that in my cycling time :)

found my cousins old exercycle so dragged it outside and spun on it for 50mins whilst trying to do a modified sudoku (seriously it was so hard, not only was it lines and boxes but it had smaller shapes within which the numbers had to add up to certain amounts, and you got no numbers to start with...pretty much took me all day!)

i figure in orienteering you have to exercise and think at the same time, so it was training that..sort of.

plenty of stretching, physio exercises and so many sit ups i lost count, (more cos i was still thinking bout that freaking sudoku thing than cos i did so many)

went to the fracture clinic. got my foot prodded at for the thousandth time, got more xrays to make sure the fracture hadnt displaced itself since the mris last week. which it hadnt. got told to take 6 weeks rest from "rockhopping"....i assume that includes orienteering
how the frick am i gonna last 6 weeks?!

off to find some non impact exercise i can do...snooker, golf, spinning on bike, ideas people? im going to get me some mean abs i think :)

so saw the gp again today. as expected she couldnt really do much about my ankle there and then. but she did get me an appointment in the fracture unit out at exeter tomorrow. general consensus is that ill just be told to rest it but we'll find out tomorrow i guess!

had the sports masseuse over again tonight, got my itb and the lateral stuff done. again he made a lot of sense, pretty much ive been compensating for the old injury on my left foot leading to real tight tendons etc and my poor hamstring. got to get my gait analysed either here or when i get home. he's been working on getting rid of the old lump in the foot, so my running style may well revert to being all good once its gone but will get it checked none the less.
will see him again on fri, then i'll be off on more adventures, and he's off to get married!

Got a call from the specialist out at nuffield with my mri results. In plain english I have a load of bruising inside my ankle joint and a crack on the outside bone. or in medical speak (read your hearts out tessa and imogene):
"There is a moderate diffuse oedema noted involving the talus. The talar dome itself is intact. No definite osteochondral lesions.
There is a focal 1cm lesion within the body of talus low signal on all sequences, likely bony island
There is marrow signal noted in the lateral malleolus with a subtle low signal line, likely hairline undisplaced fracture..."

but no ligament damage which is a definite plus. Anyway, got told to go back to the gp and see from there. not sure what a gp can do but ah well. got to wait to monday for that appointment.

so after the gp on monday i still really wanted to know what was wrong exactly with my ankle so i called up the private orthopaedic section at exeter hospital and talked to a foot specialist. he kindly referred me on to an mri unit after talking to me on the phone.
so drove up to bridgewater to have mri scans taken today. so hard to stay still whilst in there. had the radio on but the guy taking the scans accidently turned it off 3/4 of the way through so just had to listen to the machine for the last couple of scans

went to the gp in the morning and she simply referred me to a physio. had a sports masseuse come around in the evening and he was real helpful. found a bit of scar tissue on my left foot which could be the cause of all my problems as its been altering the way i run.
got a very painful massage, was waddling afterwards!
