Orienteering 30:00 [2]
(injured)

went for a jog on roads and soccer fields. ankle feels significantly better than last week but still hopeless on anything that might resember orienteering terrain. catching a flight on sat to britain (not trondheim!) to get it looked at properly. prospects dont look good for world champs, absolutely devestated.

Note
(injured)

Not running oringen. absolutely sucks, staying in fricken orienteering central but not able to run! pouring down with rain too, so not bothering going out to events, just trying to stay dry in a tiny tent!

woke up in the morning knowing i really didnt want to run on my ankle. really didnt want to let angela and kate down but in the end it just wasnt sensible to run, so pulled out. didnt tell angela before she ran, and she had a good run which made me feel marginally better

went to the hospital after the sprint yesterday. pretty much i got to the point where i want to know what is specifically wrong with my ankle and if im doing it more damage running on it. so went with al about 8.30 and got 4 xrays taken by 9.30, then had to wait until after 12.30 for a dr to look at them.
pretty much there's no apparent fracture, which is good. the bad news is there's not much i can really do other than rest and try and find strapping that works for it. it could take over a month to come right, but ive only got 2ish weeks til WOC :s still dont know if its a bruise close to the bone or joint, or ligament damage. its not a normal sprain, the real pain comes when my foot moves up and to the left, which seems to happen a lot in the course of a run!

dr said i could run if i could deal with the pain. will take it as it comes i think, wont be doing much if any of oringen. for the relay tomorrow hopefully i'll be 3rd leg, so whether i run or not depends on how the other two go.

Orienteering race 42:07 [5]
(injured)

i dont know if the painkillers are working, but if they are then i def dont want to stop taking them!
couldnt really run properly so my aim was to hit things cleanly. not happy then when i overshot no.1, oops! 2 was straight down hill, got it cleanly but cant get any speed going downhill. 3 was long leg and route choice. with the 2 short legs before it i didnt have time to select a route til i was 100m in. then it was easy for me to decide to go left to the road, as atleast i could run on the road! busted a gut up the hill, slowly, and spiked the control. had trouble contouring to no.5 as it was very rocky. fine through 6 and 7. meandered to 8 but spiked it at the end. then lost my shoe in a marsh to 9, considered doing rest with 1 shoe, but too much to go so spent a minute getting it back on. made mistakes on both 9 and 10 with not wanting to climb hills (classic mistake, just do it!) and hobbled in to the finish from there.

felt like i was running about 65% but was the kind of map where it prevented me making the 5-10min mistakes a fair few people were making. but then they had bout the same times as me cos i was hobbling along so much slower! anyway happy just to get around, felt much better than waiting around at the finish. not sure if it was the best idea and if it were an individual race tomorrow i wouldnt race, but dont want to let the other girls down. we'll see.

Orienteering warm up/down 25:00 [3]
(injured)

1.3km run to the start from prestart. ankle was so dodge along it that i was seriously contemplating not starting. then went around warm up map when i got there. was so scared that id missed my start cos it took me so long to get around the 4 warmup controls (atleast that would have taken the decision out of my hands!)

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3]
(injured)

ankle was no good in inov8s warming up so had to revert to trail shoes. painful warming up even after painkillers so didnt have a complete warm up

afterwards had minimal warmdown as ankle was a pain and i felt like vomiting from the painkillers.
but man, isnt angela just awesome!

Orienteering race (wuoc sprint) 15:10 [5]
(injured)

so started off alright in the town part, pretty much ran into a pedestrian on way to no.1. ankle was managable, giving pains every 15s or so. lost steam through the middle part, think just lack of proper training last couple of weeks and going out a bit hard. made a mess of exiting the spectator, lost about 25s missing the gap in the unpassable fence and had to go back. relooking at the map i could have kept going to another gap, but didnt see at time
last few controls were agony as were in a steep area with gullys and spurs. couldnt get down one hill slope on ankle so just went down on my bum!
so so disheartened at finish, felt real sick and ankle seized up

Orienteering 30:00 [3]
(injured)

so didnt do the long distance today. was so hard waiting at the finish and seeing the map, then seeing how the girls i was about the same as at the world cups finished up! very tough race though, glad that i'm fresh for the other races!
went for a jog out to the sprint training map that i missed the other day to check how my ankle will fair tomorrow. strapping was too tight but on the roads etc its managable. still getting intense pain every 50steps or so when i put it a bit wrong. so frustrating! but yeah managable, just cant turn tight left or go downhill very easily

Orienteering 40:00 [3]
(injured)

model for wuoc, went out with no strapping and just had a crap time of it. cant run properly and cant read map whilst looking where to put foot. made some pretty big mistakes just jogging so not inspiring! pretty much decided its stupid to even try and run long distance. give the foot another day and hope like hell i can do the rest of the week

Orienteering 10:00 [2]
(injured)

strapped the ankle up and went out again to see if it improves things. it did for the first 5mins but then was agony again. also managed to get a branch right in the face, so now have a swollen eyebrow too!
on a lighter note, james put a toad in kate's bag. ahahaha so sick but made my arvo!

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]
(injured)

long dist training for wuoc, on the map right next to comp area,, infact we parked in the event centre, which was a bit weird!
ankle felt better than yday on the first couple of controls, but then my nav went a bit off. got a bit stuck in the thick blueberry and got pains in ankle later on so just walked in in the end, feeling stink.
going to leave it as late as possible to decide whether to run long dist on tues or not. it may be better to have the extra day for the ankle if it means i can go hard in the sprint and middle (and relay)

Orienteering 1:20:00 [2]
(injured)

walk/jog around a middle training map. the forest was beautiful when i was in it, but there were a lot of crappy open and felled areas, including quite a bit not on the map.
ankle was about 65% but o-ing about 55% as cant read map and place foot at same time! i alternately got really pissed off at my ankle, and then feeling alright as i managed to run for about 100m. not sure how im going to cope with the long on tues, will just take it a day at a time. was feeling okish by the time i finished.
also got a stick straight through my shoe and into my foot, just as my ankle was ok. not cool!
4 PM

Running 35:00 [3]
(injured)

went for a jog with kate and angela, just on forest roads. i think i killed quite a few tiny frogs by stepping on them :( they were everywhere! ankle was alright until we came downhill towards the end. was going to go for a swim in the lake on way back but it looked a dodgy orange colour...

Running 23:00 [2]
(injured)

felt pretty damn lazy after 8hrs on a bus and just had to get out. so took the ankle for a light yog round the roads from al's in borlange. just did the usualy wellington (or ingham?) thing of taking the uphill option at each junction. worked out alright, found myself offroad of course, and found some nice fat juicy blueberries. woot!

Thursday Jul 15, 2010 #

Note

drove back to goteborg with magnus and todd. stopped off at a castle a la way. pretty damn cool, but they had a stage set up in the courtyard and had swedish pop to rave around to as they did sound checks.

am very tempted to put our 2.5hr game of frisbee golf down, but not sure its really training. i suck at this sport by the way, think i'll stick to orienteering and football. wicked fun though, apart from when i found myself in a wasps nest. not so fun

Mtn Biking 1:10:00 [2]
(injured)

out the back of magnus' summer house. the tracks werent overly mtn bikable, or more likely im just crap at mtn biking. not sure it really gave my ankle a break as it kept giving sharp pains when i put it down to stop me falling off. got really frustrated and angry at myself. did one complete bail off and landed in stinging nettle, ofcourse. sigh, ankle feels just as bad as on monday.
5 PM

Note
(injured)

went down to the sea with magnus' mum for a swim. despite being ultra aware, i still managed to get stung by a jellyfish. my arm is now on fire damn it. but we found wild strawberries and blueberries to pick on the way home, so that made it hurt a little less.

with that and this morning, i have eaten sooo many blueberries today!

Tuesday Jul 13, 2010 #

didnt go out tothe event with todd and magnus, stayed back and rested the ankle :(

Orienteering race 20:00 [4]
(injured)

evening race just by swe-nor border. staying with magnus and his parents at their summer house on the west coast.

started off with ankle alright, fine when warming up and walking throughout day. i made a mess of the 1st control, lack of warmup, diff scale and forest all factors. lost 1min and girl behind got there same time as me. 2,3,4 alright but then going downhill my ankle started to give pains. by 7 it was impossible to run properly. beata falk starting 2mins behind ran through me by 13, by which time i was limping and jogging it in. practically walked the finish. frick, will have to take it very carefully with ankle, hopefully i can get it runnable by next week!
not happy

Orienteering race 15:00 [3]
(injured)

coaches race after jwoc really. carstens watch had min temp at 29 deg, ave 31, max 36. soo hot!
just did the first loop, bout 1.5km as my ankle caved in. i remember jarring it around jukola some time, but was fine for world cups. been getting a bit sore this week, but suddenly didnt like bouncing through the heather. shite

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3]

jogging out from event centre to middle start

Orienteering race 30:00 [4]

ran the girls A-final. started off fine but then made a mess of the middle part of the course. misread 5, made complete hash of 6 (as did angela), wrong route choice to 7, hesitant at 8 and overshot 9. then started concentrating again. bit tired from long day before, so that's why they have the rest day?

Orienteering 1:14:00 [3]

had a go at the girls long distance course from couple of days ago. Not as tough as i thought it may be from there comments but made tougher by the lack of controls! did about angelas time but would have brought that down with the actual controls. cant really compare anyhow. made a mess of 2 controls where the vegetation looked completely different from what i expected. not sure i could have done 61mins...who knows?!

Running 42:00 [3]

rest day at jwoc, went to movies with girls then headed onto the map behind the barracks. it was less than impressive to say the least, so stuck to the tracks (everything else was waist high stinging nettle). got back just before the gate closed (we'd been warned not to climb the fences or we may get shot...seriously!)
had a go round the confidence course mid run.

Tuesday Jul 6, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

jwoc long today, i hoped to run the course afterwards but in the end all starts were delayed 40mins and runners took longer than expected so i didnt want to wait around for maps to come out. had to wait an hour then for the bus anyhow so i should have just run garr!

spent today between the first coaching zone and the finish which was tiring in itself. the courses were physically exhausting and tough by all accounts, all looking forward to rest day tomorrow. (but ill find somwhere to run...)

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Orienteering 14:11 [5]

ran around the jwoc girls course. fast enough for a diploma but not quite a medal, shame im 1.5 years too old haha! felt pretty terrible the entire way around as i wanted to run before all the spectator races started, but only had lunch an hour before i ran ugh.

was stationed at the warmup /start for the jwoc sprint, so didnt get to see our runners come in. still had a fun time of it and got to watch gene and duncan finish. wicked results from angela, laura and toby. just an awesome map in my opinion, lots of narrow paths and buildings so decisions every 15s or so and lots of route choice, the kind of sprint i like :)

Sunday Jul 4, 2010 #

Orienteering 20:00 [3]

jwoc sprint model.
went fast paced around all of the controls, then jogged back around specific areas of interest like dark green hedges, small fences, grey walls etc. looks like a mint area, got rather excited about the race :D

Saturday Jul 3, 2010 #

Orienteering 50:00 [2]

jwoc long dist model. team had fun practicing with the emits. had a walk jog round the first few controls pointing htings out, then ran round an extra loop myself before walking through the last few green ones with laura.

Note
(rest day)

team rest day. todd and ross did vo2 max tests at the uni, rest of us went shopping. finally got the girls party uniform sorted. wasnt very restful! was gonna run when we got back but when we finally returned at 8.30 dinner seemed more important

Thursday Jul 1, 2010 #

Orienteering race 31:30 [4]
