Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

csw4 in whitby.

course setting was way better than previous 3 csw's but the map let it down abit. mainly road running with quite a bit of route choice, and ducking in and out of green reserves for controls. unfortunately the vegetation wasnt mapped brilliantly. completely confidence sapping stuff. Had the fastest time of the day but really didnt feel like i ran or navigated well!

Running 1:24:00 [3]

Run with the group out kaitoke way. Nice run, didnt feel like 80mins could have kept going, but prob best to turn back when we did, dont push the sickness!
legs felt fantastic, as you'd expect after 4 days off. upper body felt ok too though feeling a bit throwing up like towards the end.
wicked run, lots of puddles and mud, got to watch magnus slide down the hill at the end :D (after giving me advice on how not to fall over)

Note
(sick)

After last night just didnt want to push it into training again too soon, so took another day off. Reckon ive picked the best week to be sick though, its been raining non stop and kinda cold too. Also means i'm nice and rested now, so hopefully can perform well next weekend :)

Football 30:00 [3]
(sick)

finally got out of the house for first time in 3 days. Prob wasnt up to playing but we didnt have enough girls otherwise. was 6mins late cos finding a park in town was absolutely impossible. Tessa only made it at half time!
was a crack up playing with no voice cos usually i'm talking the entire game. cracked the occasional high pitched squeek. thankyou cold! Felt physically sick the first half but not so bad in the 2nd lost 9-6 but really we were 5-0 sdown when i arrived so yea, would have won witha full team!

Wednesday May 26, 2010 #

Note
(sick)

day 2 of isolation. can't even remember the last time i took two days off work and running for being sick. feels like ive got razor blades running down my throat every time i swallow.

made it down to the letter box and back again. not sure that counts as training though.
also, ive had no voice for last two days. completely forgot and tried to answer the phone this arvo. poor guy on the other end didnt know what hit him!

Tuesday May 25, 2010 #

Note
(sick)

Garr frick. woke up this morning and my head was in hell. haven't been this sick in a long long time. furthest i made it all day was down to the letter box and back

Running 1:10:00 [3]
(sick)

group run from karori. sweet run though my balance was a bit off with head cold. one ear was bung, the other one not, managed to stay on the track most of the time though

Orienteering 43:30 [3]
(sick)

felt a bit like death warmed up this morning, and think i proved that sickness screws with your mental state as well as physical. a couple of routes i just didnt think through til i was stuck in waist high grass or blackberry.
just a shocker, bleh.
1 PM

Football (Game) 1:30:00 [4]

Followed my shocker at orienteering with a shocker of a football match. Not so much the way i played personally, but as a team it was just embarrassing.
played lower hutt in the national knock out cup. theyre at the lower end of central league, so above us. but we could have been bout on level with them if we played well.
we lost 1-0 which sounds sweet, and ironically is actually the best possible result for us, as if we'd won we'd have got smashed by a much better team in the next round. Actually could have drawn in the last few mins, but alice and i muffed shots. prob just as well cos extra time would have killed some of our girls.

so yea a very unsatisfying day. think i'll go to bed now, see if i can sleep off this sickness

Football warm up/down 10:00 [3]

in time to warm up :)
didnt really feel like it though...

Running 1:18:00 [3]
(sick)

up kaukau and along the ridge to karori. used to take 85 i think. got a bit dark coming down through the pines to karori park and i managed to take bout the smallest track possible. had enough trouble running down it, dont know how the bikers do it?

ugh swear i caught a lurgy off the year 9s at marsden while judging their science fair. not cool. still better to be sick now than a couple of weeks i spose.

Running warm up/down 24:00 [3]

14 up
10 down

Running intervals 22:20 [4]

So now that theyve ruined my circuit around nairnville park had to think up something different.
so did progression around the park, pretty much pyramids, but in length not time. longer rests time wise and shorter intervals, but higher intensity for each one. Not too fussed as this week is easier than others anyhow. so was doing bout 32s,1.12,1.43,2.14 and back down with an extra long one at end.
guns were sore after, must have been all that pushing trying to keep the blokes from injuring me at indoor last night...

Football (indoor) 30:00 [3]
(rest day)

A very busy day for a part time worker like me. No time in there for a run let alone intervals. will see if i can fit them in tomorrow.
won 9-8 or something again. Playing the aggro guys again, i was happy just to come out unscathed! to his credit the ref did call the fouls, which the blokes werent to happy about, and i was very happy about. tessa managed to avoid being punched in the face this time :)

Running 48:00 [3]

a very wet muddy run in the mist at wilton bush. Got 50m from the car park before my head lamp cut out. I mean, headlamps dont work brilliantly in the mist anyway, but it helps if they atleast partially work! Managed to coax it into working again and it held out for the run. need to recharge the batteries me thinks.
Quite stoked i managed not to slip over once on this run. win!

Running warm up/down 31:00 [3]

18 up
13 down

Running intervals 10:30 [5]

just a half session on the hill sprints today as legs were still real heavy and sore from sunday.
30,31,31,31,32,32.
so a bit slower, partially down to tiredness, partially down to how muddy the track was

Strength and Conditioning 11:00 [1]

stretchmania, the cat even joined in

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Running 15:00 [3]

running out to osgiliath.

Orienteering 45:00 [4]

Running ahead of Jaime, Laura and Duncan, putting tapes out on middle course. Had a bit of trouble matching things up at no's 2 and 5, and Laura caught me up at 6, oops! but she gave me another head start and i finished plenty in front. man the light green is so much harder when you're putting controls out than when you're looking for controls!

Running 15:00 [3]

running out of osgiliath, and straight in the car home to get back for football...
1 PM

Football warm up/down 5:00 [3]

made it to miramar in time to get changed, have team talk and even a 5min warm up before kick off

Football (Game) 1:30:00 [4]

vs Brooklyn, who i swear are the biggest team i have ever played! And not big as in fat, but big as in tall and all muscle! must be on steroids or something...
They're top of the table and hadnt lost or even drawn a game this year, so was expecting a long match. hopes were not raised when we let them score in about the 3rd minute, and they hit the post in the 5th!
But then I managed to equalise in teh 6th minute with what i have to admit was my best goal in years. just took a touch and put it in the top right corner from outside the box :)
Needless to say Brooklyn werent happy bout that, they were expecting the game to be a walk in the park.
They were even less happy when i scored again 15mins later, straight from a corner lol. considering our tallest player was up to their shortest players shoulders, i thought id be a dick and just shoot straight from the corner. nah jokes, it was a complete fluke, was aiming for our players just inside the 6yard box, but managed to curl it into the goal, oops.
anyway, they equalised 2mins later. But considering how out sized we were, we took the game to them and played out of our skins for a 2-2 draw. which was like a win for us, and def like a loss for them.
Did i mention they werent happy bout it?
first and last time ive scored twice in a match for a long time
6 PM

Football (indoor game) 30:00 [3]

as if that wasnt enough, then had indoor in the evening. was cramping up something epic after the afternoon game, so wasnt looking forward to this. managed to make it through alright though. think i was still in the mindset from the brooklyn game. won 13-12 but i only remember scoring 4 goals and the guys 3. maybe i scored 5? did they get the score wrong? spose we'll take the win anyway

Mtn Biking 1:20:00 [3]

into forest with a massive bag full of everyones lunches,
out of forest to get jaime
into forest with jaime
and out of forest again, just before it got dark :)

tracks were the muddiest i've ever seen them! got a sexy mud trail all the way up my back

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]

Bit of a guesstimate on the time, will have to see what times Tessa puts up.
contour only exercise first up, which was hard as! I didnt do the first couple of controls, instead came in from where i dumped the bike and lunches, which just happened to be in an area with few contours. didnt have a compass either, just to make it that extra bit tougher.

Then tennis matches with Tessa Duncan and Laura. we all let ourselves get distracted on the first control of the first one. had trouble fitting the map (bad printing), and let the others distract me, eventually relocated though.

relocation/map contact in the green stuff with Jaime. once again without a compass (long story short, Jaime and I managed to misplace 3 compasses in the forest, found 2 of them again, but my old one is still out there somewhere, RIP compass , we had a good run together-pun completely intended)

and control picking to finish off, just as it started raining again and beginning to get dark.

stretchabulous. (get it, i fitted stretching, and ab work in one word!)

been slack on stretching etc this week. slowly getting back into physio exercises again. dunno if it was the earlyish hour but my balance was terrible!

Running warm up/down 24:00 [3]

12 up 12 down

Running intervals 28:30 [5]

lacked the motivation to do intervals by myself at nairnville, so instead found the motivation to go all the way across town and do intervals at the track with Tessa! go figure.
anyway, pyramids from 1 up to3 and back with half rests. wasnt as nearly as bad as i dreaded, as usual, and even the 3 at the end was alright :) got things sussed pretty well with me in lane 5 and tessa in 1 or 2 so we stuck together the whole way pretty much.

Wednesday May 12, 2010 #

6 PM

Running 28:00 [3]

pace run around wilton bush. cut a bit short so i could get to football on time.
7 PM

Football 1:20:00 [2]

...which i did to perfection! a mint night for training, just perfect conditions, and a bit of rain at the end to cool things down :)

Running warm up/down 31:00 [3]

17 up
14 down
man my new shoes are comfy! its like running on a cloud :) actually, i wouldnt know as ive never run on a cloud before, so, its like running on something a lot softer and spongier than my old shoes.
i was never any good at similes

Running (Hill sprints) 17:30 [5]

29,30,31,30,30,30,30,29,29,30
eventually got myself motivated to get out and do these. and as usual once i was out the door it was fine. legs feeling a lot better than last night. surprised how much they were aching after football on sunday, i must have done something in the game after all!

Monday May 10, 2010 #

6 PM

Running 1:40:00 [3]

group run from botanics around and up tinakori, down to wilton, up through flax clearing to skyline, along and down to cemetary, through to karori tunnel and down the rigi to finish.
man its awkward leading the group run cos i'm always out in front, noone seems to want to run next to me! so if i want to talk have to do it over my shoulder. whenever i slow down to try and get company, everyone else slows down to stay behind! c'mon people i don't smell that bad surely?! Please, someone run with me and talk!

Orienteering race (csw2) 25:35 [4]

central park.
bit of a scramble. no.11 in wrong place. not much to say really. quite happy with my route to last control though :)
1 PM

Football (Game) 1:30:00 [3]

against marist at kilbirnie. Terrible pitch, has a cricket square on one side which is like a skating rink, so dangerous!

I'm honestly starting to wonder where wellington football get there refs from aye. The guy today seemed more intent on keeping the supporters more than 2m from the sideline than he did on actually controlling the players! Once again had a penalty denied, their keeper came out and took out our striker. which is an automatic sending off. but he gave an indirect free kick, just outside the box?! he was real antsy so didnt want to get carded by questioning him about it, or anything for that matter. but asked him about it after the game and he just made up some excuse, saying the ball wasnt going towards goal otherwise it would have been a penalty and red card...um sure!

anyway once again we dominated the game but just cant score, its getting a bit frustrating but sure it will come. you know its bad when the teams relying on me to score lol. should prob point out ive scored 4 goals in the last 2 years...
lost 2-0

Mtn Biking 1:10:00 [3]

keeping off the feet today, well trying to. went for a bike ride through watch tower, wanda and osgiliath.

so there i was minding my own business, cycling along the forestry road when all of a sudden i realised there was a freaking tank sitting off the side in the felled area! Infact, i only noticed it cos of the giant reflectors on the back of it. presumably they take them off for actual combat?! at first i thought it was an old abandoned tank(?!!) yep im smart. but then the guy in the turret, who i also hadnt noticed, shouted something out to me. so i came to a rather inelegant stop, almost fell of my bike, but managed to save it and turned it into a cool looking dance...
anyway, while the turret guy was on his radio to his boss, or commander, or girlfriend, whoever, the back of the tank opened up, and three guys come out in full camo and face paint, helmets and guns, and walk/creep towards me. at which point i was kindof thinking woah hold on, im not part of your exercise! Eventually turret dude finished on his radio, and asked me where i intended on going, so i told him i was going up to the river, then through the forest and back down. he replied "oh yep that should be fine if you continue heading south", to which i said "...you mean north..."
"uh yeah, north yep..."
good to see our armed forces know their directions. although i guess the tank would screw with a compass?
So yeah, i was allowed to continue on my ride. Although when started up again, i then noticed there were 2 more tanks on the other side of the road and a whole load of soldiers in full camo watching our little exchange! so either i was fully asleep, or camo actually works. maybe a little of both, either way, lucky i dont live somewhere like afghanistan, apparently i wouldnt last long!

so if you're still reading, rest of my ride was relatively uneventful, though i found some wicked dunes right up the north of osgiliath :)

11 AM

Running 42:00 [3]

run from wilton bush up to skyline. should check what time this used to take me, swear its not taking as long as it used to. might have to find some extensions.

Thursday May 6, 2010 #

11 AM

Running intervals 25:00 [5]

pyramids at nairnville again. Got cut short of doing the last 3min interval (gutted...) as st benedicts decided to come and do their cross country, pretty much the opposite way around my circuit. so rude!

Running warm up/down 27:00 [3]

8 PM

Football (indoor) 30:00 [4]

hold on to your seats, we actually won! ...and i didnt score any goals, neither did tessa, so the boys were doing their job for once :)
good team effort, marking was much improved, and i didnt pick up any bruises (that ive found thus far anyway). maybe i did nothing the entire game?

Running (hill sprints) 17:30 [5]

29,30,30,30,30,30,31,31,31,30

same as last week, even though lower track is now open again. thought i'd do the longer, less steep ones as it means less standing around between, which actually makes the session more bearable

Strength and Conditioning 12:00 [1]

stretchaliscious. I'm running out of terms to turn stretch into...going to have to have a think before my next stretch!
7 PM

Football 1:20:00 [2]

we're playing pretty well at the moment just can't score. can't say we're going to either if tonights training was anything to go by. Just playing 2-2 trying to get past defense and shoot. whole team fail! was an absolute crack up though, glad we can laugh at ouselves. wouldnt like to imagine how saun would have reacted to the same sort of performance last year

Running 23:00 [2]
(rest day)

Bit of a funny day. Was meant to do hill sprints, but my foots been hurting since saturday so thought i'd give it a rest.
Actually got changed and out the door to do hill sprints before i told myself not to be stupid, went back inside and got changed again! That's never happened before.
Had to stop myself a couple of other times throughout the day. Eventually went for a cruise around the tracks with mum. Foot feeling alright so will see how it feels tomorrow and maybe do hill sprints then instead.

Monday May 3, 2010 #

6 PM

Running 1:10:00 [3]

group run up kaukau, along to crows nest and down through girl guide woods and back along roads. Getting used to running in the dark again. Got a bit lost in the woods on the way down, i dont usually take any particular route anyway, but there seemed to be so many more tracks in teh dark!

Sunday May 2, 2010 #

Orienteering (csw1) 44:45 [3]

newtown park.
not an impressive course. no1 complete dog leg leg. no2 in a nonexistent depression. 5-6 a 1-2km road leg with v limited route choice, in which i just about memorised the rest of the course. just boring all up. feet were killing me on the roads as well. not good.
12 PM

Football warm up/down 25:00 [3]

1 PM

Football warm up/down (Game) 1:30:00 [4]

drew 1-1 with uni. perfect day for soccer, not too cold, not too hot, minimal wind. a very even game. we had plenty of chances but just didnt put them away. still lacking that killer finish.
i got brought down in the area in 2nd half, but blind ref gave it just outside. honestly, his glasses were so dark im not sure he could see out of them! but he was still way better than our refs the last two weeks, which is saying something...anyway i put the freekick over the bar, just. and lets be honest id prob have done the same with a penalty anyway. havent taken one in a while!
fun game though, couple of my uni friends came to watch so glad i had a decent game :)

Saturday May 1, 2010 #

Running 1:31:00 [3]

longer run with Tessa and Laura in orongarongas. Loop from catchpool up butchers track, along cattle ridge. passed on brown's track this time, instead kept on the ridge down to 5mile track then back along with a bonus hill up middle ridge at the end.
wasn't pushing it but got up butchers in 23mins so i'll take that as proof that all 3 of us are fitter than 3 months ago! Forgot to remind the others that orienteering shoes would be good, so had to stop myself from getting ahead on the ridge with my superior grip :)
