SIC middle champs, including WU. Odd map, super steep slopes with a plateau on top. Covered in wild thyme which made it very heavy running. Main lesson of the day is that rabbits don't contour. Shame really, as their little trails would have made the going easier!

OY on Osgiliath. Arrived early to fit it in before football, but the maps hadn't arrived yet!
Rushed off once they did arrive, leading to a balls up on #1. Was OK after that, but there was no flag at #8. I found the flag halfway to #9, so did a detour to the event centre on the way to #10 to give it to the organisers to put out. Then continued on to #10, and made a mess of #11. At this point I realised just how late I was for football, and my splits get a lot faster haha.
What a mess of a run.

Taranaki 6hr adventure race with Steve. Great day out, very very lucky with the weather (was torrential rain in NP all day, but we only got poured on the last hour)
Started off on the bike, was a complte procession out from the start and we lost a lot of time being back in the line. Started to pass once on the 4wd track up the hill to #3, bit of a hiccup on the way to #5 when Steve's back wheel fell of his bike(!). Hilarious, but mildly worrying directly before a massive steep downhill haha. Luckily it stayed on the rest of the race.
Headed straight for the river tubing section after we finished the bike, followed by a 3-legged race haha. we were terrible! I blame the fact we're completely different heights. And that Steve is bow-legged.
Short 3 control rogaine, pretty much just making us climb a hill and go around the ridge, before hopping back on the bikes and heading round to the next farm over for the main rogaine.
This was a slog up and down every ridge on the farm it seemed. No big routechoices really, just pick a direction around the controls and go. Had to count sheep at one of the mystery activity control points. Something that sounds stupidly easy, but is not. Shifty little things. Also had one control in a beaut little cave/tunnel, and another down a narrow and deeper than expected canyon. By then it was raining anyway, so hopping in the water didn't matter.
One bonus hill to finish (us off), before hopping back on the bikes for a mercifully hill-less ride back to the finish line.
Finished in 5.57, so timed to perfection. Cleared the course, as did a few mens and schools teams, but we were the only mixed open team to clear it. So won a hunk of wood for our efforts :)

NZ champs relay with Stu and Lara. Pretty clean run bar dropping too low on about #7. Was annoyed to have a PAPO lad go past me as we hit the fast running open area. stuck with/ahead of him on the long routechoice, but got out run once we hit the spectator run-through. Also got Jonty in my sights, but no chance of outrunning him in the last loop. Came in 5th

Really neat area, and after doing the model I hit it with the right balance of speed and caution. That said, I hit the ridge at #1 30m too far right and had a mild panic when I crested the ridge to find no control. Quickly sorted that and got into a rhythm though. A couple of similar 10s blips on #4 and #6, but felt like I had a handle on things. #8 brought us down to the coastal strip, and after yesterday's problems I made 100% sure I had a plan all of the way to #9. Passed Immy and Tessa on this leg, and caught up Lara. Knew I was doing well, but was really nervous of letting the company put me off, so slowed down a little and made sure I had #10 down pat.
Set off to #11 by myself, across a flatter block, over a track, and into a vague cutty-grass covered slope. Knew that I had to be careful with where I came off the track, but was I? Nope. Was too fixated on using the clearings to guide me, but they were anything but obvious, and i crossed the track too early. Tried to follow the slope around and into the control, but was too high and ended up back up between #1 and #2. After two attempts at finding it in there, I decided to bail out to the track again. That did the job, as I found the control really easily from the track. I saw Tessa heading off to #12, as i reentered 11, so had a rough estimate on my time-loss and knew that I'd now be back on about the same overall time as Lara.
Really happy with how from there I managed to push physically, but stay in balance with my navigation. Slowing down where necessary, and pushing when possible. Was clean around the rest of the course, and relieved to hear I was 30s clear at the finish. Turns out there was a radio control at #11, and I was behind both Renee and Lara after my mistake, so happy with the recovery.

Mistakes, so many mistakes.

Started off really well and caught Lara at #4. Was really happy with how i dealt with the green section through to 10. Headed to the coastal block for 11. Identified #12 as a leg to take carefully. I didn't. Completely lost contact and blew 3minutes. Lara caught me up here and we did the next few controls together. Including blowing #15 by a couple of minutes when we got our exit direction completely wrong. We also blew another 1.5 in the circle at 17, when we entered the green and completely lost direction. 17-18 was a longer leg across beautiful fast pine and into the tough manuka area. I attacked the manuka at a different place from Lara and quickly lost track of her. the rest of the course, to be honest, was a real grind through shrubby hilly stuff. Was pretty smashed by the time I entered the farmland at the end, but dragged myself through :)

2 school campuses, greatly improved by artificial barriers. #1 really threw us in it, with a long leg across a grid of buildings full of artificial barriers, on a scale of 1:3000, and with school corridors opened up and mapped as canopies!
My initial plan was to go around, but I was already too far in by then, and struck a barrier. So ended up doing a very convoluted zigzag to get to the control. Which was slow, but got my head into what the school was going to be like. 2-3-4 were then around the outside of the complex, so gave some breathing room, before we were flung fully into the maze again. Happy with how I coped with the first school, but made a couple of silly mistakes in the 2nd. The first control on the 2nd school I misread as being on the other side of an uncrossable fence, so I concentrated hard on how to approach it, worked my way in to the dead end where I thought it was, only to glance up and see the flag grinning at me from the other (and far easier approached) side of the fence! Grrrr.
But. I was clean enough to stay ahead of the other girls, and more importantly the juniors ;)
