Really neat area, and after doing the model I hit it with the right balance of speed and caution. That said, I hit the ridge at #1 30m too far right and had a mild panic when I crested the ridge to find no control. Quickly sorted that and got into a rhythm though. A couple of similar 10s blips on #4 and #6, but felt like I had a handle on things. #8 brought us down to the coastal strip, and after yesterday's problems I made 100% sure I had a plan all of the way to #9. Passed Immy and Tessa on this leg, and caught up Lara. Knew I was doing well, but was really nervous of letting the company put me off, so slowed down a little and made sure I had #10 down pat.
Set off to #11 by myself, across a flatter block, over a track, and into a vague cutty-grass covered slope. Knew that I had to be careful with where I came off the track, but was I? Nope. Was too fixated on using the clearings to guide me, but they were anything but obvious, and i crossed the track too early. Tried to follow the slope around and into the control, but was too high and ended up back up between #1 and #2. After two attempts at finding it in there, I decided to bail out to the track again. That did the job, as I found the control really easily from the track. I saw Tessa heading off to #12, as i reentered 11, so had a rough estimate on my time-loss and knew that I'd now be back on about the same overall time as Lara.
Really happy with how from there I managed to push physically, but stay in balance with my navigation. Slowing down where necessary, and pushing when possible. Was clean around the rest of the course, and relieved to hear I was 30s clear at the finish. Turns out there was a radio control at #11, and I was behind both Renee and Lara after my mistake, so happy with the recovery.
