Went for a blow out around Høiåsmarka after the drive back from Tio. Good to finally get the bike out of the garage. The forest has finally turned from brown to full lush green in the 4 days we've been away at Tiomila!

Running warm up/down 31:00 [3] 5.1 km (6:05 / km)

Orienteering 55:45 [4] 9.9 km (5:38 / km) +200m 5:07 / km

Tiomila! Leg 5 for the 2nd team. Very disappointed to not make the first team this time around, to the point i've been fairly distracted in my training sessions the last couple of weeks. But, that's life. Take the knocks, pick yourself up and keep going!

Eve, Eva, Jo and Bodil did fantastic jobs on their legs, and sent me out around 20th position and within sight of the backs of Lina Strand (GMOK) and Ingrid Lundanes (NTNUI). In fact, up until Marika's gun run on 4th leg, we were neck and neck with our first team.
So went out knowing I had two very good runners to group with if I had the legs and head for it. Hung on on the run out, into the forest to #1, and then...the forest made no sense! found myself toeing a small ditch, at which point I realised I'd somehow overshot my control! A moment of panic before relocating and seeing the flag. I was pretty pissed as I'd lost my chance at hanging with the speedy group, when into the left of my vision came Lina, having also messed the first control.
So back in the game, was good to be pressed for speed, but felt that I could hold my own while still keeping contact and making sure we were headed to my control, not a split. This held until 3/4 of the way through our first long leg, when I heard footsteps approaching fast behind me. Was confused for a moment, as there were no male runners out in the forest with us?! But then Tove came effortlessly past and leaped over a stone wall in front of me. By the time I clambered over it she was 25m ahead, haha. Knew now that the game was on, as although I could stick with Lina and Ingrid, they probably had another gear to go into and could hang with Tove for longer than me.
That was quickly taken out of the equation anyway as right after the long leg I had a different split from the three of them... a hill top in some shitty green, while they had something they could stick in the white forest with. So never saw the three of them again. But along with Tove, we'd been joined by Anastasia Denisova, who had the same split as me. We battled on together, and were soon joiined by Denise Kosova, who'd had our split, but stuck with the Tove group longer by mistake.
The three of us pressed on together. Again, I was being pressed for speed, but was able to keep up by picking cleaner micro-route choices. We worked our way through to the arena passage together, at which point Anastasia put the pedal down and Denise and I couldn't respond. A bit disappointed as I knew the last loop was more technical and hoped I could get past them on technique. But a glance behind showed me noone coming up behind.
Disappointed again as I got a bad route through the green and slightly missed the control after the passage, and Denise got a head start on me. As I got the control I heard a crashing behind me, and turned to see Karolinn Olssen coming through the green. Well, shit.
I continued on and got the last loop done nice and cleanly, but knew Karro was close behind. She joined me as we popped out onto the track to the last control. I turned to her and had a bit of a laugh, I tried my best but no way in hell I could stick with her on the finish sprint!
Bit of a difference though, from passing out in the finish chute to trying to stick with the world's best finish sprinter!

All in all very happy with my run. I lost us two places on the last leg and that was to Tove and Karro, so I think that's allowable? Onward to Jukola...

Pulled off the finish line for an interview with Boris and Cris. Didn't they do an awesome job?! Their trailer was nice and warm too! but next year they could maybe have a drinks table in there for the interviewees? Just an idea! ;) find a drinks sponsor for the english commentary?

Orienteering 1:08:00 [2] 8.9 km (7:38 / km)

More fun in the varied terrain of Glimåkra. This time Elena and I tried out a route that went through a little white and yellow channel through the green. Haha. Nope. It was just green disguised as white and yellow!

Orienteering 1:02:00 [2] 8.5 km (7:18 / km)

Tiomila training from right outside our house in Gimåkra. An interesting mix of white, white-that-should-be-green, green, and rocks. lots of rocks. Manageable.

Orienteering 31:00 [4] 6.0 km (5:10 / km)

JK Relay
Fast and furious. Actually impressed with the courses given go bland the old map looked. Still, bit of a cross country race. Was chasing the back of Cecilie and Tessa, who were switching the lead depending on who got the shorter split...don't think I got a short split at all ;)
Came in to the finish 3rd in a dead heat with Grace Molloy, bout 15s down on Tess and Cecilie

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)

Warmup kind of negated by standing waiting 15min on the start line. Not sure quite why we needed so long a call up!

Orienteering 36:45 [3] 6.6 km (5:34 / km) +150m 5:00 / km

JK Middle
Warm day out. Interesting enough area with plenty of topography and over or around route choices. Happy with my choices for the main part. Annoyed to blow 30+s on a brainfart - crossing the canal but not the railway and not realising until I was 40m down the wrong track. Hard to explain in writing but easy enough mistake with the map in hand. Some needless seconds also lost at the start of both route choices over the canal, as I searched for the best bridge over (at the cost of not reading in the circle of the previous control in the first instance).
2mins behind Cat and 1.45 behind Jo - really need to sharpen up my technical game if I want to get up there.

Orienteering 15:30 [4] 3.8 km (4:05 / km)

JK sprint.
Best sprint in a long while. No brain farts or blow outs and body kept going til the finish line :) no real route choice or tricky legs but plenty of twisting and turning and having to keep close contact with the map. Hard running in the last loop but legs hung in there.
Haha made a fool of myself to the one or two people watching when I ran toward the radio box at the penultimate control instead of the actual control. In my defense, the control wasn't actually on the feature it should have been on...but...id also seen the control and watched loads of people run through it before I started...so...yep,smart.

3rd place. Hopefully a few wre points to add to my tally.

Running warm up/down 45:00 [2] 7.5 km (6:00 / km)

Watch deleted the whole sprint. so estimate on the times and distances (The JK timing wasn't much help either ;)

Running warm up/down 33:30 [2] 5.9 km (5:41 / km) +90m 5:17 / km

Very excited to see a daffodil on my WD. Has only taken til mid April, and it may well be the only one in the country, but well done Norway. You can now say it's spring!
Jo can verify how excited I was...

Running (Drills) 6:00 [3] 0.8 km (7:30 / km)

Running intervals 30:00 [4] 5.5 km (5:27 / km)

Nice interval session with a lot of girls showing tonight. With JK Friday-Sunday I only took half the session, skipping the 2km interval and taking longer breaks. Nice to feel some speed again after feeling flat for the whole last month. Getting back to form after a week and bit of less travel and workload.

Running warm up/down 35:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:50 / km)

Running 30:00 [3] 5.65 km (5:19 / km)

Was foiled twice today in my attempts to go to the track - this morning by a large horde of school kids, and this evening by people inconsiderately throwing sharp sticks around ;)
So went down to the riverside for my run-throughs. Pretty setting for it in the evening light and with the fortress above <3.
5x200m with 1.45-2min jogs in between, then 2km float, another 3x200, and 1x400 all out to finish.
Nice and enjoyable. Did the session running back and forth between the two bridges. Not quite as iconic as Lake B-G and its two bridges, but just as scenic and about the same level of desire for swimming in the river as in B-G!

Orienteering 13:40 [4] 2.1 km (6:30 / km) +90m 5:22 / km

Relay training with Swiss and Swedes and friends. Focus on flow and not going all out today. Tried to keep HR 175 and below. Hard to do in this terrain and with speedy ladies everywhere. Happy with the nav.

Orienteering 15:40 [4] 2.25 km (6:58 / km) +80m 5:55 / km

Second interval. Did a much better job on the HR on this one. Navigation still alright. Missed the cliff at #2 by about 15m. Sounds small but the girls which flowed through it gained about 20-30s.

Vårspretten
Started off well, but came unstuck on a pit in some absolute shite green stuff. Dropped 2-2.5mins, then another 1min over the next two controls as I worked to get my mojo back.
Back into things, but another tired mistake on the 3rd last dropped me another minute.
Very disappointed and frustrated after missing Tio camp and the selection race last week as a direct consequence of work, and still not being in the right physical or mental shape for this selection race either. But also, full credit to Jo and Kine who had great runs. It just made mine look that much worse ;)

Had a fairly crap afternoon as everything just caught up with me from the last weeks.

So this week's job is to turn things around for next weekend and the final selection race.

Missioning 45:00 [0]

Epic game of capture the flag with coolchicks on Rødsberget. Plenty of chasing and being chased. I think we (red team) won, but then we coudln't find some of our own cones when it came to collecting the remaining ones in, so... :,) Great fun.

Some good sprints and hill intervals in there, should have worn my GPS and HR monitor.

2x800, 6x400, 6x200, 6x100.
1min breaks between the 800s and 600s. 45s between the 200s and 100s. 3min break between the different sets.

Faster than I've run in a while eh. Felt it too!
2.47 for the 800s, 82s for the 400s, 36-37s for the 200s and 16-17s for the 100s. Nice and consistent for the most part.

Note

Up to Lillehammer on the 7am train. Afternoon marking lines out in 50-70cm of snow and organising logistics to clear the snow for the seismic survey crew. Luckily hard enough on top for me to walk without sinking too many times.

Client had somehow given the go ahead for both seismic surveying and borehole sampling to be undertaken simultaneously...they obviously don't understand how seismic investigations work! The borehole guys seemed happy enough to take breaks while we measure though.

We measured last week that we walk anywhere between 10 and 20km each day in the field. Most of that while carrying various equipment, be it cables, electrodes, hammers, measurement devices etc. Today was a half day, and just marking sticks and the GPS for me. So an easy day out comparitively.

Ankle is still not the happiest :( Went over on it pretty badly at Kvillbyns, and let's be honest, it hasn't had much rest since. Trying to stick to running on even surfaces and more ellipse than usual.
