Orienteering 1:24:30 [3]

Caught 3 hours of trains down to Bad Harzburg to catch up with the parentals at WMOC. More than worth it, just to get out on some decent runs!
Good session on one of the long model maps, plenty of contours, blackberry, nettles and flies! Finally felt like a half decent hit out. Just wish my legs would stop aching all the time

Ran to work via Bremerhaven's second running route - the sea wall. scintilating stuff. Way too soon after breakfast, stomach not appreciative. On the other hand, my legs were fresh. So about par all up

Run back to hostel from work. Had a bit of a break at 5mins, when the bridge I ran across this morning disappeared before my eyes to let a boat through. Got sick of waiting in the end, so found the next bridge along.
Legs shattered after another long day sampling.

yep another day off. No flights as excuses this time. But worked my feet into the ground at work today, standing and moving around for 10 hours sampling isn't conducive to legs that want to run post-work it seems. sigh.

Ah to be running so late in the evening, in the light, and in the warmth!

Took a google map of Bremerhaven and eventually found my way through to the river bank (one of two options recommended to me, the other being up and down the dyke by the seaside...maybe rome had better options last year?!)

Did 12 x 30:30 once i found the dirt track by the river. Right tib post tightened up on the way home.

Note

arrived in Bremerhaven at 8pm after 40 hours of travel. Thought about hitting the gym at Dubai airport, but didn't have time to make it worth it. Considered running reps the wrong way along the flat escalators instead, but didn't fancy my chances against the armed security people.

helping mags put out controls for the o-gang fundraiser. so a mix of walking/jogging/running/jungle bashing/rock climbing/abseiling... the sort of thing where i'd find myself wondering if this is a good idea 3 weeks out from worlds... :)

man there's some random stuff in the thick of the wellington bush! including a soccer ball (still fully inflated) and a huge tractor tire. and the mysterious blue box...

also included a hill rep when magnus left the i-dent box holders at the bottom of the hill. (5min climb)

aaaah. O-gang run in the mud at wilton bush. Up red track to flax clearing and on to the skyline. Have to admit though I burst ahead of the pack as I needed to stretch out the legs a bit more than the rest were doing. Then broke from the pack again to go over Johnston's hill and blast it back to the carpark via the lower tracks. Last half was a good tempo run in the mud and dark :)

Orienteering 52:10 [3]

Out at Jankee Yack's Hill on a cold windy morning.
Gave Devil 3-4mins head start as Red 1 had the same first 2 controls as red 2. Caught him just as we both made a mess of 2 (my mess was much smaller though from all accounts). The gully-spur stuff had me thoroughly confused around 2 and 3, along with extra termite mounds. Mistake on 2 came from taking a bearing off an unmapped termie. I should know by now! So lost 2-3 mins there.
Then got 3 alright in the end, but keeping a bearing in that terrain seemed impossible! Kept finding myself 30odd deg out!
3-4-5 was pretty straight running, then into the rocky hill stuff. Again nav was fine here, but what I'm lacking is orienteering confidence. Kept getting in the circle, and wasting 10-20s checking the map, when I was 4/5 times right on the feature, just on the opposite side from the control! So have to start trusting in my abilities again i think!

52mins all up, which seemed a bit slow. But can't complain given saturday's effort i guess. Legs actually felt alright all things considered, bit grumpy at times.

Oh and I beat the SI box to the finish! So my recorded time is 30s longer than my actual time! Hasn't been taken into account in the results, which is a bit rude I think ;)

Somehow made it through this, despite cramping up in the warm up! Played really well as a team though, got the passing going. smashed tuggers 5-1, and doubled my season goal tally :)

Long run up Mt Tennent and around Honeysuckle with Devil. Pretty glad I took a rest day yesterday rather than doing some sprint courses like I thought (work got in the way, again. tends to do that?!)

A bit worried that Devil thinks we took it easy up the 4wd track to the top of Tennent? 52mins up, by which time my calves and achilles were grumpy as. But surprisingly good the rest of the way, careened it down the single track stuff, and had a pretty solid effort keeping up with Devil's pace along the undulating stuff. kept dropping back on the uphills...I blame his long legs. 2.11 to honeysuckle car park, then a bit of a bush bash track back to almost the start, and a bit of training for mumma's mile on the goat, back up the road to the car ;)

Thoroughly enjoyable all up, but glad I didn't have to do anything in the afternoon!

WU and WD up and back from uni to circumcision track. Feeling good and strong, specially on the way home!

shoes: Asics Trabuco 2012

7x2min intervals around circumcision. 3 1/4 ints take you all the way round it turns out. So decided to go up to the summit on the 6th one, that was some good pain! Which made the final one a technical down hill, and a 30s blast along the flat at the end.

best I've felt on a session in weeks. Felt the right ankle a bit, and the left quad occasionally , but actually felt like an athlete. It's been a while!

to/from uni in the arvo. To go by Carsten's rule of if this counts as training or not - there was sweat, but mainly due to wearing too many layers! Hence it was heat training ;)

Shannon's Metro course on N Ainslie. Fun middle length course, should have been about 25mins but wasted 2-3mins on number 2 running in circles like a headless chicken!

Rest was fine navigationally but every time I got up speed I seemed to go over on my right ankle. Wrong choice to wear my trabucos with orthotics, too high for the rough ground. but didn't want to run 30mins on the roads in my inov8s getting there and back... Maybe i need to carry a shoe change!

was going to do 30:30 but could feel the calf on the first couple, so just kept it steady. Don't have the mental toughness for a 2hr session like angela!

Plan for today was to run up mt tennent with Devil. Not sure why I ever thought that would be a good idea for a post soccer match day! Given how sore my calf was every time i rolled over last night, realised it would be a bad move to try and do it today.
So hopefully all good for next saturday :)

Good decision I think as a 3hr run today would wipe me out til atleast Thurs, and I need 2 good weeks training before jetting overseas

awesome mtn bike with sah and andy. Managed not to stack once, although almost killed myself on one long steep downhill where my lack of back tire grip almost proved fatal, somehow regained the track and avoided the large rocks though!

1-0 loss to Weston Creek. Poos. Dominated but ball went everywhere but in the back of the net!
Won player of the match for the 3rd week running, but starting to question if it's worth how sore my body always is on Monday! Something happened to my calf muscle 10mins from the end, hoping it was just cramp. Very stiff and sore to go down stairs on it today (monday).
Also big bruises on both ankles, huzzah!

Think the team has made a pact to not give me points for player's player next week...

Orienteering 1:20:30 [3]

The inaugural Majackainslie classic. 6 courses over 6 maps taking me around Majura, hackett hill and mt Ainslie.

Actually only did the first 3 maps in the end cos I didn't want to annihilate myself for the next two days, and had some niggles playing up.

Awesome fun though, will have to do all 6 maps some time, prob take 2.5-3hours at a pretty leasurely pace. Company would make it good too :)

too busy demagnetising the new shielded room to get out at lunchtime, so looks like it will just be soccer training tonight. might fit ints in tomorrow, or save it up for a big, long, weekend of training :)

eeeee so cold! Pitch was iced up by half way through training, and just dangerous by the end (i have a graze up my leg to prove it!) almost impossible to control the ball as it just slipped everywhere.

didn't warm up fully and as a result my tendon played up...so no intervals for friday now. frick. looks like it will be AJ if anything.

along the single tracks. Legs felt super tired for pretty much the entire warm up and down. But sorted themselves out for the hill sprints which was nice.

On the downside, thigh/quad was aching as i ran. On the plus side, my awesome sleep last night seems to have vastly helped my head. Was prepared to have to turn around and bail 1-2mins in, but everything went smoothly :)

11x 1.20 cycles, 30s sprints up the single track going to Majackett saddle. Perhaps the cycle was a bit short, I'd get about 5s standing at the bottom at the end of each one. Certainly not enough to catch breathe!

Got sent home from uni again by my caring friends who are probably better at looking after me than I am myself!
So worked from bed most of the day. Made the iffy decision to go to soccer training and take it easy, head home if i felt crap.

yeah. should have stayed home but that was never realistically going to happen!
Felt sick all of training, head itself felt fine, but achey when i got home.

physically easy training though, and made super sure I stayed out of the way of any balls that might want heading! The way i figure, even if soccer training doesn't give me a fitness work out, the amount of laughing i inevitably end up doing gives me a good ab workout!

Sunday event in Majura pines. Did a classic faceplant on the way to no.1 Luckily my front teeth stopped my fall...
Kept getting to the control site and not seeing the control, then finding it hanging on the other side of the tree! Garr!
Was going fine until I made an horrendous parallel error on 10, getting the wrong track and spending 2.5mins looking in the wrong block. Dumb dumb dumb and really need to work these mistakes out of my system!
Also got confused by the extra track at the last control, which was silly.

vs Olympic on a horrible surface at O'connor enclosed. On which 4 people has already done ankles/knees today, but the ref refused to switch us to the next door field...

Dominated the first half, then fell apart in the 2nd for a 2-2 draw. I got pretty annihilated. Ball smashed into my face from 1.5m in the first half - pretty happy to find my tongue all in one piece given the force i bit down on it with. And no swelling of the face bonus, but one very very stiff jaw.
Then gave away a penalty in the 2nd half (kinda had to...but I did get the ball!) but in doing so go run over by my team mate...now my right hand is one giant bruise and my back is not the happiest! Hopefully nothing's broken in my hand, i can't grip too much with it atm though!

...and now i have a whole new set of aches and pains to complain about ;)

Training on Majainslie with Devil. Started off with his corridor exercise from a couple of weeks ago, then moved on to the middle I set on Campbell park months ago. Unfortunately a fair few of the control sites were dodgy to say the least! But on the plus side, about 2/3 of them were taped! :)
2nd half of the course was better and got a bit of flow going.
Then picked up tapes from the corridor exercise on the way home. Good weather for running in, and even better weather to spend the rest of the day in my sleeping bag on the couch!

ankle area feeling a lot better this morning than the last few days (read, i couldnt get it to hurt while lying in bed lol). But this sore spot in my quad is worrying, the same thing as end of last year. I got rid of it then by taking a couple of months of due to my knee :s

to and from bruce ridge and some token dynamic stretching. After all my worrying this morning, everything felt fine. Apart from running too soon after lunch that is. glug.

Running 21:00 [3]

7x2min intervals on bruce ridge single tracks. GPS has me doing super slow k rates cos it can't keep up wit the twisting and turning of the tracks.

Gee first int was death! my bad for starting with 2 uphill ones... Made it through though, haven't done high intensity running in a while, need to get back into the swing of it, will build in 3min efforts, but 2min felt more than long enough today, kept checking my watch after just over 1min!
