Running 52:00 [3]

easy run in wiltons bush with mumsy. Had a bit of a rave while waiting for her in the flax clearing on the way up. Moon was really pretty, shame it was too windy otherwise would have run home along the tops by moonlight (and prob done an ankle in...)

Running warm up/down 29:00 [3]

17 WU, 12WD
warm down in bare feet, copped a few weird looks running around with shoes on my hands

Running (intervals) 25:30 [5]

pyramids at nairnville park. went around the outside edge so i got some nice uneven hills and small tracks. kept me interested and made it harder than just straight running on the fields. went 1min to 3min and back in 30s steps. half recoveries

Strength and Conditioning 12:00 [1]

stretchtastic
9 PM

Football 30:00 [3]

had after work drinks before hand, which made the game that little bit more interesting! Playing bottom of the table, which im kinda surprised wasnt us already... so was a pretty even match. lost by 1 goal in the end but hey, was good fun.
Tane never showed so snagged a dude off the sidelines to play for us, and he was real good! we played the best we had for ages, got some good passing going. Had a chat to him afterwards and turns out he;s one of those people who did orienteering at school pretty much for the day off. got his no after...for purely player recruitment purposes ofcourse! :p

Running 42:00 [3]

wilton bush on the way to uni. bit muddy but kept a good pace up

considering getting some new sprinting inov8s off wiggle. $156 at the mo. Cos i need new running shoes, but want something i can sprint in, and wear offroad if i need to.

Running warm up/down 31:00 [3]

16 up, 15 down

had absolutely no juice in the legs to start with, really struggled up simla cres. But then bumped into kev, havent seen him in aaages! real good to catch up. And legs were fine after that :)

Running (Hill sprints) 17:30 [5]

Had to move again as the track i usually do these on is being upgraded. Personally I thought the track was fine as it was, but WCC seem to think there should be wheel chair access all the way up kaukau, so alas, had to find somewhere else.
these hill sprints werent as steep as usual, but longer distance wise, so still about 30s each. However took longer to get back to start than on the other track so less recovery. still 1.45 each rep
30,31,31,32,31,31,31,32,31,31

Strength and Conditioning 11:00 [1]

stretchellent. got some nice ab stuff in there too.

Running 22:00 [3]

went for the most pathetic run around the sand dunes (ie streets of khandallah). felt like i was running on the spot the entire time, dunno if it was cos it was dark, or maybe i was dehydrated. just exhausted i guess. Body did not like me after the hill with no contours. (steepest hill in this part of town, but on the wgtn club map of k-town it has no contours)

Somehow i got left off the o-gang email about tonights run, so the first i knew of it was a text from sarah asking where i was. so unimpressed! I hear it's lisa's fault, so will be waiting til she least expects it to exact my revenge...

oh and after hurting all day my toe was alright out running. must have beat it into submission by standing in the lab for 4 hours

Sunday Apr 25, 2010 #

10 AM

Running 1:15:00 [3]

Run up colonial knob with Tessa and Laura. Took it easy up the thousands of steps in the bush with a mind to football after, and our efforts the day before. Got overtaken by a guy who turned around as soon as he got the edge of the bush. I joked that he was going back down and up again, and he said he was! oops! would takes guts to take on that climb twice
very windy and rather misty on the tops so couldnt really show the other two where the porirua traverse went. Someday I;m going to run from colonial to kaukau or vice versa
12 PM

Football warm up/down 20:00 [3]

cos i totally needed a warm up after the mornings run...
1 PM

Football (Game) 1:30:00 [3]

Against Tawa at good old redwood park, where you cant see the goal post at the opposite end cos the pitch is so convex. ok bit of an exaggeration, but not much!
Didnt have any subs today and that was prob the difference between winning and losing. Just ran ourselves into the ground and ran out of steam in the last 20mins, could barely get out of our own half in the end. referee was abysmal, just so inconsistent! I got my toes absolutely mashed in a late tackle (that wasnt called). 2nd smallest on my left foot is particularly sore, hopefully its just bruising...
so yeah, lost 1-0. but a pretty even game, should have put our opportunities away in teh first half really.

Running 2:50:00 [3]

well not sure about running...spose the first 45 mins was.
went collecting controls from the moonshine 24. Man we had a wicked time! There is some awesome bush out there aye, not sure i'd want to compete through it, but was amazing just for a saturday adventure! I found the optimal route to get through vines is down on all fours and scampering like a possum, others didnt seem quite so keen on this technique, not sure why? Took some cool as photos on the way down, theyre on facebook for anyone who cares. Had a nice swim down the river at the end too :) An awesome day all up, loved it!

On the down side picked up quite a few pieces of litter that could only have been from rogainers as they were in the middle of nowhere. not cool people! also, who takes snack sized packs of corn chips on a rogaine?!

Friday Apr 23, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

my body was crying out for a rest day, so i happily obliged. As it turned out I kinda ran out of time for running anyhow even if I'd wanted to.

Thursday Apr 22, 2010 #

6 PM

Running 36:00 [4]

track session with hamish tessa and todd. 8x300m with 4min complete recovery inbetween. 56,57,56,57,56,57,56,55 for the efforts. good session, bit dark though!

Running warm up/down 12:00 [3]

there was no warmdown really, much as i needed one. not good
7 PM

Football (indoor game) 30:00 [3]

Tessa and I did another 300m sprint to make it in time for kick off. Wow i played the worst i can remember in a long time! felt as bad as ive felt on a soccer pitch since the game the morning after my 21st! My body was just a second behind my brain the entire game, but then my brain went too!
needless to say we lost...ugh just a terrible game. managed the one goal, but in anywhere near a normal state it would have been 3 or 4.

Wednesday Apr 21, 2010 #

12 PM

Running 37:00 [3]

decent paced run in wilton bush, along yellow track to cemetary, then up new track (blue?) and down past the rimu. managed to stay on my feet which was good. feeling pretty tired on the uphills though.
7 PM

Football 1:20:00 [2]

skills etc all with ball at feet except for footspeed and ladders at start. apparently we were going to do shuttles, but sue talked elliott out of it :)

Tuesday Apr 20, 2010 #

4 PM

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Running 21:00 [5]

pyramids out at hutt rec with laura. Had to run in a kinda L shaped loop with the turf being redone. Think i underestimated just how much work i did at football on sunday, cos my legs were lead from early on. By the 2.5mins i could barely lift my legs, and by the 2nd one my breathing got bad, so sat out the 2nd 2min one to get it under control. So frustrated and angry with myself after, but sure it was the right thing to do
Hopefully this sort of thing stops happening when i get the iron under control, will go to the dr in the next month to see how its improved anyway.

Monday Apr 19, 2010 #

6 PM

Running 1:10:00 [3]

group run from magnus and lisas. down to the horse paddock, up to skyline and along to top of johnstons hill. down through the pines and along the yellow(?) track to clearing, up red track to croften downs.

gradually unwound throughout the run after a busy day at uni and a lab where half the equipment (and half the students) didnt work!

Sunday Apr 18, 2010 #

12 PM

Football warm up/down 20:00 [3]

drills etc. was half an hour late...man really got to get on top of this timing thing!
1 PM

Football (Game) 1:30:00 [4]

freaking nil all draw against Island Bay. Could and should have won about 6-0, but dont know what the hell the ref was up to, maybe he was employed by island bay?!
we got pinged for about 12 offsides, 2 of which were actually offside. And he disallowed my goal, get this, cos two of the island bay defenders had run into eachother, and he thought one had hurt her face! he blew the whistle just after my shot had beaten the keeper too, not cool. not going to forgive him for that one, i so rarely score its just cruel disallowing one! :P

still we should have scored, we had about 10 corners, all of which i put nicely in the centre of the area but noone got the scoring touch.
ah well. 2points down the drain. bring on next week!
6 PM

Football (indoor game) 30:00 [4]

haha, we got thrashed! I think we're def a div 3 team not div2.
was out on my feet after this arvo's game, i dunno, maybe we'd do better if we stopped having games on a sunday arvo?! I certainly need more than 3-4 hours to get over all the bumps and bruises i get in outdoor games.
got a mean bruise on my foot this week, dont even remember getting it, wonder what else will hurt tomorrow?

Saturday Apr 17, 2010 #

8 AM

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3]

putting last few controls out, checking and turning boxes on. had to make another trip out with 177's box which both dad and i had forgotten to put out on separate occasions!

Friday Apr 16, 2010 #

8 AM

Orienteering 45:00 [3]

Turning on controls and putting the final few out for NISS
2 PM

Orienteering 34:32 [4]

somehow got talked into running the senior girls course. was a bit tired after previous days efforts but i guess that was compensated for by knowing where all the controls were! :D

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

to the start, back from start when i found the car with all my gear in it had moved from the start, then back to the start again
3 PM

Orienteering 1:10:00 [2]

collecting controls from individual and putting some out for relay

Thursday Apr 15, 2010 #

1 PM

Orienteering 1:55:00 [2]

putting controls out for NISS individual. then checking the controls dad had put out. managed to leave all my long socks in wellington, oops. legs nicely cut up now
5 PM

Mtn Biking 46:00 [3]

around watchtower and wanda maps, checking out whats been felled and whats not. got a bit dark while i was out there so was biking by feel rather than sight on the way back!

Wednesday Apr 14, 2010 #

2 PM

Running 32:00 [3]

went for a run in the macracarpa strip of hydrabad. would be mint for a sprint, just would be a long narrow map! checked out the block next to it too but got stuck in chopped down trees.

Tuesday Apr 13, 2010 #

Note

writing this about a week later and i honestly can't remember what i did on tues, too much has happened in between! so i assume it was a rest day cos i can usually remember my runs!

Monday Apr 12, 2010 #

2 PM

Running 49:00 [2]

easy run around wilton bush. far out my body is sooo stiff and sore after football yesterday! real tight left hammy too. feeling marginally less sore after though. was planning on 30-40 mins, but wanted to go down my fav track :) me 2, tree 1. though i was going bout half my usual pace down the track, so not sure that dodge counts

Strength and Conditioning 10:00 [1]

had a good stretch. pain.
8 PM

Football (futsal) 30:00 [4]

filled in for mariko's team, or rather the team she was filling in for. think it was an onslow teacher's team. man it was intense! was told 10s before kick off that oh yeah we're just a social team and the team we're playing is national futsal champs! we played with 3 girls on our team against 5guys. never really had a chance. but mariko and i managed a couple of goals between us, which had everyone including the other team cheering! mean fun, more intense than indoor. (futsal is pretty much indoor but with a heavier ball and fewer rules)

12 PM

Football warm up/down 35:00 [3]

Got up at 5am to catch ferry back in time for this game, i hope it was worth it cos my body hates me now!

Football (Game) 1:30:00 [4]

my first game of the season. Found it a bit frustrating, just the level of skill and speed of the game isnt the same as central league. guess I'll get used to it, just got to remember orienteering is the focus this year, not soccer! still it's annoying not being able to fully trust the backline behind you...
anyhow, did alright for a bunch of girls who'd barely played together before. Upper hutt had a few familiar faces, girls who'd dropped down from their central team, luckily not Toni or i'd be copping a few more bruises than i already am today!
won 3-2, first time ive been on the winning side in over 12 months, should i be admitting that?
two set ups and a goal, though knowing me that's me done for goal scoring this season!

Football warm up/down 10:00 [2]

really really needed to do more. will remember next week!

Orienteering warm up/down 7:00 [3]

Orienteering (Craigieburn) 2:04:00 [3]

the thing i love about craigieburn is that you don't have to exaggerate your time loss when talking to others afterwards, it really is as much as you state. In this case it would be 30mins or there abouts all up.
mistake at 2 was my fault. at 5 i got stuck in crap. 8 bad route. picked up time on the uphill legs :D then lost way more time than i want to think about in the dodge little open patches up the top of the map. relocated nicely off 18 on the way to 17, then couldnt find 18 again... and who knows where 20 really was? still not entirely sure where tane ali and i went on out way to 21, it was def not the best way, but also def better than lara going through the green!

can't remember the last time i took over 2 hours on a course...

Orienteering race (Lake Tekapo) 1:07:30 [4]

pretty much a text book example of how not to orienteer today. or it would be if there was such a text book anyway!
just too many mistakes to list. mainly exit direction and bearings, both were shocking today.
confused the heck out of tessa by running along with her, then bursting out of the trees at 90 deg to her, then again at 90 the other direction! a totally purposeful tactic ofcourse.
also did some mean relocation at 2, however was running along and next thing i knew my face was in the dirt. looked around to see the fence id just faceplanted over. picked myself up, realised i was heading the wrong way so turned around, started running...and found my face in the dirt again! got nice twin bruises on my legs from it now :)

Wednesday Apr 7, 2010 #

11 AM

Orienteering race (Irishman's creek) 1:10:00 [4]

Open farmland to start with, where to quote Scott "the contours were on the piss" then into the lakeside block which was full of wild rose. kindof luck whether you ran into it or not on your chosen route. Going fine but lost a couple of mins on 13 when i got totallystuck in the stuff going right. turns out the left hand route was clean as well, stink.
enjoyable, but i wasnt overly prepared for another 10km race straight after nats!

Tuesday Apr 6, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

climbed mt cook with the ramsdensteins. no view cos of all the cloud though so didnt bother with photos...

Orienteering race (Nats relay) 22:47 [5]

Nick is awesome.
Rather nervous at the start have to admit. Mistakes on 1,3 and 4 then i told myself to pull it together and managed to hit the rest of the course relatively cleanly and carefully if a little slow. I have never been so relieved to find each control!
no. 1 took the wrong route choice and when i got there, there were way more thickets than on the map!
no.3 despite telling myself to be sure of the right reentrant i still went up the wrong system, stupid.
no.4 i ran straight past. misread my map and thought mine was on the spur, so assumed the one i was running past was a split. should have glanced at the number!

That relay title is def the most satisfying of the weekend, and i dont think ive been so elated in a race as when i was finishing. awesome awesome feeling!

Sunday Apr 4, 2010 #

10 AM

Orienteering race (National Long champs) 1:08:29 [5]

Navigationally a pretty easy course so was able to push the speed a bit more than usual. Felt real sick to begin with, and was burping until no.6, then stomach quietened down and i got into things.
bit of a mistake on no.2 and 15. bit silly on 15 as i knew i had to slow down and be careful, but still missed it.
good to see the fitness pulling through and was able to push it up the hill at the end and through the last 4 controls.

Saturday Apr 3, 2010 #

11 AM

Orienteering race (NZ middle dist champs) 39:39 [5]

Not the race i was looking for! Two reasonable sized mistakes and plenty of hesitation and smaller mistakes.
Wasn't careful enough 1-2 when i hit the detailed stuff and went off on a parallel error, lost just over a minute according to winsplits but it felt like way more! was a bit shaky on 3 and pretty much through to 8 was still hesitant and just not running my natural race. begun my comeback from 9-11, but then fell apart on the shortest easiest leg of the course at 12! lost 30s there, then was going alright again til 15 when i didnt read my descriptions and spent 1.5 mins literally standing 2m above the control wondering where it was! caned it in to the finish in anger from there.
could have been 2nd if i wasnt stupid at 15, but not sure i could have beaten Penny on the day, she just had a mean clean run :)

Friday Apr 2, 2010 #

2 PM

Running race (NZ sprint champs) 16:14 [5]

made sure i was into the map on no.1, the scale was a bit difficult to get into, and i wouldnt have got 3 as cleanly if i hadnt seen lara punching it. lost up to 30s on 4, went up the bank towards the track but then despite being within 30m of it i missed the track and lara and i went bush bashing before eventually popping out on it further down!
caught amber at 7 despite hitting the wrong reentrant. still had lara right on my tail and couldnt shake either of them off the rest of the course. caught georgia and sarah at 13 so was a whole bunch of us which made it hard to get ahead on the short sharp legs. was just breaking away when i hit 15 too far to the right, so finished with the bunch.
so 3 smallish wobbles but clean enough around the rest for the win

Orienteering warm up/down 25:00 [3]

15 up 10 down

Running 23:00 [3]

a light yog around the metropolis of mosgiel. was a bit dark so i was too scared to wander far off the main road, went through some schools that would make a sweet sprint map though
