my first cockies run :)
around, up, along, and i don't even know where, on mt ainslie

stomach was weird and felt like throwing up a couple of times but all good in the end. And the smoothness compared to the tracks at home was appreciated by the ankle. Still sore on the side of the foot :( xrays last week showed a perfectly healthy looking foot though.

tried to explore black mtn a bit but couldnt cut through the gardens cos of a function so had to run around (prob best way anyway but did some backtracking) went up for 20mins then thought that was enough if i want to be able to run early tomorrow, and turned around. explored a bit on the way back.
wallaby count: 13, although i suspect it may have been 11, couple of them looked familiar

group run from nick's. really wasn't in the mood for running though so pottered along with tessa and lisa at the back. found that my inov8s have absolutely no grip. or rather they have mean grip, but not on my pressure points! so they'rre getting left behind when i move

kaukau event.
By half way round the course I was almost convinced that I hated orienteering. Ground was so rutted, even on the steepest slopes (which there are a LOT of on kaukau). don't think I managed to run until about 8-9, which was up a track. Had to be extremely careful ankle-wise and got beaten by mum on 4 legs, including the long down hill.
Just when i thought the end was in sight, and was looking forward to a nice cold drink and getting in some shade, i managed to haul myself up a bank...and straight into a patch of ongaonga! whole body is still tingling, which is quite cool in a way :)
also, managed to get shoes muddy and soaked at 3rd to last control, so will have to give them a good wash before friday.

what else? I'm looking forward to aussie terrain after that :)

yep im totally putting this on attackpoint, we'll call it recovery.
Went with mags and lisa to introduce snow to the beach. played chicken with the waves with her, almost got her swimming, and then got us both absolutely swamped when she got a bit too adventurous and i misjudged the wave!
magnus and i did some intervals seeing who could get their rock the furthest out without getting wet :)

possibly my least favourite map in wellington, but i went anyway. Hilly road running and i swear every event there pretty much has the same route choices!
Legs felt like crap most of the way around but glad i got out and did it anyway. And as Imogene said in her log, it's nice not to have to plan where you're going to have your run!
For some reason the controls were a mixture of clips, ribbons with codes, and questions. couldnt be bothered taking a pencil with me so just memorised the answers. Good memory exercise, but freaking annoying cos all i had going around in my head the entire way was: 6 H 7 C L X S 5 E!
Nick took 5 mins out of me, but kind of expected that.

met laura at bot gardens and ran for 30 mins, then met up with the rest of the gang for weds night run up tinakori, around tinakori, down tinakori, up more, and down some more.

i set some real short head to head sprints in teh rose garden that we didnt get round to doing on sunday. so did them after our run. was amazing fun! and pretty hard. did it first time 1.50, and 1.36 the second, then raced piret to pick controls up. would have been faster on the first but one of the tiny (3cm square!) controls was on the corner of the roses, not the middle of the edge. stood there for bout 5s looking!

sprint training around massey/WHS. good to run at almost full pace again! atlast!
course was hampered a little but by construction work, and a missing building but all good. If I had the time before i left id offer to remap the area to sprint specs.

long run from catchpool with magnus and laura. about 1 min in decided my legs were absolutely dead. that lasted a good 25 mins. went around back of middle ridge, linked back up with main track towards the orongaronga river. then headed up cattle ridge, the opposite way from usual which was actually really neat! pretty rugged running.
went past a couple of groups of girls tramping who were shocked we were running...then one of them recognised me... turns out it was the marsden duke of ed group tramping. thought noone still at marsden would recognise me by now?!

came back down butchers track. which hurt more to come down than go up. never thought i'd say that.

I swear they've changed the names of the tracks in wilton bush. got terribly confused today cos what i've always called the yellow track is actually the lower blue track. what i thought was the blue track is the upper blue track. what i thought was the upper yellow track is... i don't even know!

and apparantly there IS a green track..it's the circuit loop.

felt really confused, but then when i mentioned it to mum she thought the same as me! so they must have changed the names pretty recently.

cos it matters...

Ran the percy's reserve omax course. sweet area with loads of tracks, bit confusing up the back of the reserve, think there's a track not on the map or something?
was silly getting the 3 controls at the end to add up to 9, got 1 and 4 and then....crap. knew i was getting 2,3,4 but went to 1 first anyway!

was hoping lisa would be up for a bike ride, but no, she wanted to run! went down to wilton bush and along the tracks there. then explored a couple of old tracks i'd noticed. both of which lead to dead ends at the bottom of what would be nice waterfalls if there was more water. first one we backtracked back to the proper tracks. second one we followed a possum line up through a load of crap to the upper track and back home

group run from belmont, though most people opted for the pmax instead, or were just too late. top of hill road, up 4wd track, right onto smaller track. chased a calf along the track for over 500m, not that its mum seemed to fussed. prob glad to get rid of it for a while! around to the bunkers and back to the main track. then all the way down a valley (not sure which one), over a spur and back up to the cars. got an extra 6mins at the end going back down the track, almost to the bottom looking for mick, who'd taken a wrong turn and got back to the cars faster than me!

neat track, if i had more time before leaving i'd do it again.

started off with the parentals in wilton bush but left them behind surprisingly fast (perhaps not, theyre still recovering from 2 weeks 'holiday' in the SI). just around the lower tracks (yellow?). added on a loop to the upper tracks and ended up behind parents again. met lisa along the bottom track out for her run. Then bumped into magnus and snow, who wasn't impressed that i was cheating by training without him.

my second littlest toe on L foot is fairly mauled after the weekend. It's pretty much one big blister, and a pretty deep thorn in there too i noticed!

and R inov8 is all but dead. the sole is coming off in atleast 3 places, seems to be staying together on sheer will power alone at the moment.

Tim just vanished ahead of us having not run the goat the day before! tight right calf to start up to soda springs, and shoulders sore from camelbak. very happy i managed to keep running all the way up to the plateau. legs were like lead and screaming to stop and walk, but piret kept was still running in front of me so i had to keep going :)
beaut day on the tops. applied sunblock 3 times enroute! pretty smashed by the end

From whakapapa to turoa with Piret, Magnus R1 and R3. Was pretty damn warm despite the fact it was misty and rainy! At a comfortable pace with lots of stops to take photos (on fb). decided to run the last k up the road, seemed like a good idea at the time, not so much about 3mins later!
managed to get pretty burnt even though we didnt see the sun til the road at the end. not cool.

home late. tossed up doing hill sprints in khandallah park but chickened out in the end cos i was too hungry! so did exercises instead incl situps, pressups, lunges, 1leg squats and calf raises. tricep dips and steps. (12mins)

wilton bush to skyline along and back.
decided to time the uphill pushes. 3.5mins to flax clearing, followed straight up by 6.5mins up to the main 4wd track. 2mins rest then 3mins to skyline. and 1.5mins from gate to the saddle. felt really weird on the way down, running style did not feel right at all. got quite a sore right outside calf now.
