Note

Time for another new body part, I think my fifth? (Previous ones being a plastic big toe joint, some titanium mesh to deal with a hernia, and a couple of new high-tech lenses).

Today's addition was an implant into the lower right jaw where tooth 31 (according to the American system) resided until it got broken and then yanked last November. That all healed up well, though it's been uncomfortable to eat on that side. Therefore the decision to proceed eventually with a new #31, so that when something on the left side goes haywire, as it surely will, then eating on the right side will be tolerable.

First step was today, drilling the hole, screwing in the titanium implant, a couple of stitches to sew up the gum, and I was good to go, though no solid food for the next couple of days. Also no strenuous exercise for the next week, though golf doesn't seem to follow under the category of strenuous exercise.... :-)

I was told the procedure was less distressing than having the tooth yanked was, and that was true. Lots of Novocain, so no pain. I suppose the proper way to deal with the distress I did have would have been a Valium or two. Had to give myself a good talking-to to keep the anxiety from getting out of control.
But I survived, the doc said his work looked excellent, and I had a nice visit with his helper, a former client of mine. So overall, while I wouldn't say it was a positive experience, it certainly could have been worse.

Wonder what new body part #6 will be. I guess I'm in no hurry to find out.
