ahr:146 max:175

Scottish 6 Days, Day 6, Coulmony and Belivat, M45L, 14th.

Was aiming for a top 10 today, which might have got me a top 10 overall, but even early on in the race I was feeling tired from a week of racing, so it changed into "just get round".

Tricky first few short legs, but I got through those without losing much time. At the timed-out road crossing I looked at routes for the rest of the course, but then set off too quickly and missed the first one after the road (#12) by 2 mins. Took it steady after that, but still managed to miss #25 by a couple of minutes, and then an easy #27 by 30 secs because I got distracted by elites and a TV tower.

14th overall. Better than the top-20 I expected when I saw how big the field was, but not as good as it should have been given that I was running well in the sand dune areas, apart from some silly mistakes.

Scottish 6 Days, Day 5, Roseisle, M45L, 27th.

Running reasonably well early on, but then had a bad miss at #22, spent 4-5 minutes relocating and looking again in the same places, before I finally worked out the map and found it. After that I lost interest in racing, and was too tired to navigate well. Thankfully a Norwegian runner came through and dragged me round the last few.

Went from 7th to 27th as a result of the bad error, so today won't be a counter.

ahr:156 max:163

Scottish 6 Days Day 4, Loch of Boath, M45L, 21st.

Careless mistake cost me 1 minute at #2, but otherwise orienteering ok, just running too slowly to get a good result. Should have had a late start and benefitted from some tracks, but started earlier in order to be back in time for WOC 2015 launch speech and VIP sandwiches. Tough terrain which I'm not fit enough for.

Scottish 6 Days, Day 3, Culbin, M45L, 24th.

Was going ok till I stupidly navigated from 7 to 6 instead of 2 to 3. Cost me 3 minutes. Dave Robertson caught me, ran with him for a while, but tired and lost enthusiasm for racing after that mistake. Terrain was tough underfoot and I was staggering by the end.

Enjoyed it anyway, but hopefully this is a "discard" day.

ahr:162 max:173

Scottish 6 Days, Day 2, Carse of Arderseir, M45L, 11th.

Very early start, and it made a difference. Was hacking through grass and bracken that will have tracked up nicely for later runners. Also quite a bit longer than yesterday's race, and I was tired from half way round round.

Orienteering race 50:00 intensity: (12 @1) + (1:02 @2) + (40:39 @3) + (7:57 @4) + (10 @5) 8.5 km (5:53 / km) +15m 5:50 / km
ahr:167 max:180

Scottish 6 Days, Day 1, Lossie, M45L, 4th.

Spent too long chatting in assembly, before suddenly realising I was starting in 13 minutes and it was 1.4km to the start! Not great preparation, but I got there with about a minute to spare, which was almost enough time to pin on my number and tie my shoe laces.

First few controls were in technical dune terrain, but all seemed a bit easy because of how close they were to bigger features. Slight time loss at #7 as my attack point along the beach wasn't as obvious as I expected.

#12 looked quite tricky going straight, but there was an easy track option to make it easy. #13 was tricky, but I was careful enough. Then it was just hard running back to the south side of the map with one challenging control in the green. Lost a little here (#16), but relocated on another control and then found it quickly.

Hopeman. Along the beach and headland, then back through the golf course to the caravan. Nice evening.
