Event (SL 5 - Wyangla Waters) 42:56 [4] *** 1.2 km (35:47 / km) +60m 28:37 / km
spiked:8/9c shoes: new black O

Now on first reading 1.2km and 60m climb looks like a wimpy course but it was almost all rock (very slippery, mossy) hopping and scrambling and the downhills were treacherous. The final downhill into Finish was grassy - bunny rabbit houses and playgrounds and tussocky grass and one had to be very careful where the feet tried to go. But.. I had a good walk/scramble with good nav, except for where I preconceived a control to be as I actually RAN past the clump and... it wasn't. Phooey.
S-#1Along w/c but very low hanging branches to no speed at all, and up bank.
#1-#2 Bearing and "mark" off rocks/boulders/boulder clumps
#2-#3 Short leg downhill and this was very treacherous.
#3-#4 Crossed what I thought to be the w/c but was actually just a marked gully, but under line. Saw more prominent w/c looming and some decent rocks (where weren't there any???) and then the most beautiful rock wall/weir. Actually stopped to look at it. Scrambled up bank and over spur to control.
#4-#5 Contouring.
MAP FLIP
#5-#6 Longest leg, which ended up (straight line) going past Start area where I'd seen some pretty dejected and tired people scrambling up the hill. MMMM But of course I could just go W rather than straight, pick up track (disturb camper and apologise), out to road toddle along road, run past Start ppl, note boulder cluster and head straight for control. I noticed on way that a group of random people were heading into a clump of bush and I decided this was where #7 was.
#6-#7 Back along parallel to road, drop down a fraction to clump of trees and wander around parallel to ground as again low hanging branches, go to "out" and feel disappointed. Returned to #6 reasonably and noted that some people were going on other side of ridge, looking purposeful. I have had problems before when I have a control 1 contour down from a ridge, going on the wrong side and I increased that tally. Hopped on the end of the train and found #7.
#7-#8Downhill avoiding bunny residences and struggled through some nasty spikey tree branches (I thought by now enough fast people would have broken them but sadly not and I got a few minor scrapes)
#8-F Down down down and to Finish.

Note

Drove to Parramatta and then to Wyangla Waters CP. Lovely surroundings and good Bungalow. looking forward to next 3 days.

Note

Drive to Parramatta and then to Wyangla - jaw getting increasingly painful and take painkillers at "certain" rates. Now degenerated to back 2 teeth feeling a bit nasty. took more painkillers and tried to avoid talking. Felt miserable and a bit worried. Read that the medication recommended is unsuitable for people over 65. Didn't interfere with competing. Didn't go out for dinner with others - had vegs instead.

Note

Jaw still painful but can be ignored. Rang dentist and got an emergency appointment for 2:45. Arrived at surgery at 2:44, into chair at 2:46, some explanation. some poking and hammering - yes hammering of teeth on right side - nothing untoward. Xrays reinforce this. Suggested I take Ibuprofin. Not losing sleep but not feeling good either.

Lynda as fill in for injured Deb. The best fill in we've had. Newer style of class but good execution.

Note

Strange feeling in right jaw - discomfort around canine areas and at hinge. Hope not tooth problem. the last time I went to Wyangla I ended up minus a tooth 4 days later.
5 PM

gym class (Body Attack) 48:00 [4]
shoes: Brooks Glycerin

Held back on the plyo lunges having done this class yesterday. Ankle has just enough of an impeded movement to remind me that jumping isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Note

Support and Admin role at Newcastle Pairs event for which the prizes were pears in various forms. Newcastle is never shy of a pun or a homophone. Control collection duties i was prepared for but was caught up in Admin handover and was neglected. Guess I'll have to do some heavy stuff around home this afternoon to make up for it.
3 PM

gym replacement activity 1:30:00 [3]

Less took more.
