Event (NOY - Hamburgers Trail) 1:36:26 [3] *** 4.86 km (19:51 / km)
spiked:6/10c
Possibly needed a hamburger given the time I was out. But it was really enjoyable, even in the worst of my poor navigation today.
Got a bit too cocky spiking the first 2 and doing what I wanted to do with #3 (ie aim off not direct). Then picked up Joy at #3 and allowed her to distract me to #4. We differed on where we were so I decided to relocate, though near to #4, she continued and picked it eventually. On a second attempt from a different attackpoint, again I skimmed past #4 but saw someone leaving 'something' on the edge of thick green and so decided I must be too high. I was.
#5 I was probably a victim of not looking at the right time as there was a lot of fallen timber - trunks not the problem, but the canopy takes up a lot of eye space when on the ground. #6 good then wimped out for long track route to #7. Picked up a parallel track, switched over to the more easterly one but too far again. Noticed Sam coming up hill and assumed that she would straight line it so I knew I was in the right area. Still was far too low by following track I was on. This was one of the times i did scan at the right time - #7 about 50m away. Straight line to track, clipping head of gully and w/c and got to track en route to #8. Overjoyed to find myself at a small junction followed quickly by a bigger junction so off on the track ready to aim off to w/c and #8. But continued on track for a little too much, and saw a flag and rockman so yipee it's mine - but it is near a w/c but definitely on a track. WT... So he took a photo of me being a teapot (pouting) and told me where I was! WT!!! OK off on minor track beside a connecting w/c but didn't ever see the junction of the 2 watercourses so continued on minor track around and around and hey there's lots of noise and cars - UGH!!! On that track! Decided to follow it to the most northerly part then headed off for control - only to see rockman coming towards it too. Great! To #9 and #10 no problem.
So a very challenging course made more difficult by storm damage - but a nice area and great course setting. No problems physically - just some mental ones emerging!
