Time & distance estimate - they told us 8km, but I'm doubtful, and garmin was having issues.
4 laps by Magazine fort.
Rocked up, hoping we'd have a team, and I'd make the start.
We had 7 or so, and Trinity had about 10.
On the start line I was told 6 to count - which was off-putting.
Start was quick, but there were lots of UCD tops, so I thought this could be cool to run a team race.
Main focus was to try get team gold anyway.
People I was with dropped a little bit halfway round lap 1, and I realised I need to move to stick with the group in front. Probably a little late, closed in a bit, but could never quite fully catch on.
So there was a lead group of 4 (2 x UCD), and then 4 more a little in front of me (1 x UCD).
Wasn't looking too great - I was confident most of the guys would beat their 1v1s in front - but I thought I might need to reel 1 or 2 in.
Motored on for 3 more laps about 50m off a guy in front. Put in some surges to just get to the group, I reckoned I could keep with them, but I needed to get there. Finished a little off that group which got split up, but well in front of the next guys.
Never could quite do it, but the boys got 1, 2, 5, and then me in 9th (?), and it turned out it was 4 to score.
Glad I turned up, 'cos we had just done enough.
Happy to be a part of that - trinity had gotten very cocky.
Felt really strong out there - happy with the run, particularly post-track.
Will need x-c spikes for Sligo, inov8s were too slippy.
