Orienteering (Day 5) 1:05:16 [3] 7.48 km (8:44 / km) +230m 7:34 / km
spiked:4/12c shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Well, I felt like I was running in EBOR terrain today.

1- The elephant track didn't take me as high as I had hoped, I tried to cross the river anyway but couldn't get down to it, ran further up and tried again ~30s
2- Started off so well, good route. Messed up the entry, I was slightly too high and got stuck in windblown ~25s
3- Leaving 2 I wanted to get out of the mess so headed towards the ride, the double undergrowth was actually forrest fight windblown ~30s. Not confident of the vegetation mapping I decided to ignore it, turns out it was accurate on entry to the control but better scratched than loosing time.
4- The vegetation was vaguely correct here, I was too high up the hill, relocated from a re-entrant that was a lot more distinct than shown and in a clearing that wasn't mapped ~1min 40s
5- Because of the faff with 4 I hadn't even looked at this, apparently it took me 26s to decide on a route choice! And I'm not sure but I think it was a bad one, I think at least 1 minute lost. A better route choice would have just been to almost red line it, because it was mostly grotty and you couldn't tell which green was worse or more extensive than the next.
6- OK
7- Slightly low 10s
8- I don't know what was up with my bearing... the route gadget will be interesting. Checked myself and got back on bearing from a flat area which was supposed to be flat windblown, but was just a few trees on the floor. Along the veg boundary, with the vegetation to the NE oddly represented on the map. Spiked the entry, but lost 20s on going off-line.
9-The fun leg, slightly overshot on a parallel error ~15s
10-12- OK

Total- 4min 15s + minimum 1min on the long route choice leg.

Yet somehow this is one of my better results? The Scandies must have not got on with this area/map :L

Wanted to go for some KOM's on the hill behind Beauly, but I really underestimated how steep the first one was and I was well off the pace so I decided just to cycle around.

Orienteering (Day 3) 34:29 intensity: (29:29 @3) + (5:00 @4) *** 4.81 km (7:10 / km) +70m 6:41 / km
spiked:12/16c shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Ran really well, but made a few mistakes, probably 35s on 3 (off bearing), 30s on 9 (off bearing) and on 11 I wanted to get out of heavy undergrowth so ended up making a 90 degree error which cost me up to 2min. Could have had a decent result. Really fun though.

Hesitated for 10s near 3 before working out id made a parallel booboo, lost maybe 30s and that was my only navigational mistake.

I Loved the area especially the first half :) I was pushing it after crossing the river and so forgot to dib control 10 (doh).

Back to the accommodation, had a puncture almost immediately which seemed to only deflate when stationary, had to pump it up once before home.
