Orienteering race (Loch Nell and Shenavllie) 1:44:55 intensity: (1:30:00 @2) + (14:55 @4) *** 9.17 km (11:26 / km)
19c shoes: Brooks CASCADIA 5

Scottish 6 Daagse 2011. Dag 5
Lost 6 or 7 minutes on ctrl 1 from being well off to the SW of it. Eventually relocated then Tristan was right behind me having made a 3 minute mistake himself (he started 4min behind me). He caned it across the open and I fell behind.
Rough ground slowed me, which gave me time to read the map, which slowed me(walking+ reading), ... so I decided to do some map memory. Managed to do 6,7,8,9,10,11 almost all in one. Got some weird looks off of other orienteers wondering where my map was.

It was more technical at the beginning today so I did better. My only mistake was on 19 where I lost 1min 45s because I did a parallel error with the re-entrent which was my catching feature.

Good fun. Lost 15s on 9, 10s on 11, 10s on 15. Did the first bit at intensity 5 then got stuck behind a load of people. Wish I could have stayed and gone in the sea.
No tussocks!

Dont really know what I did wrong here, I somehow ended up 15minutes behind average. It was the worst of the areas underfoot and I was the first starter so.. :S
3- Bad RC (1min 30s)
4- Bad RC thought I could get through the bracken but it was impenetrable, I got halfway through and reached nettles so went back. 2min lost

Really good fun today, runnable, not tussocky, mildly technical, nice on the ankles :) I felt much fitter. Great course! (Nice shoes..)

Mistakes- 2- no bearing 20s
8- bad RC (30s)
12- slow
13- andy went out of the control wrong and I followed where he went... :/ messed about on a spur for a bit before choosing to go to the right (the right way) 40s
Total: 1min 30s not baddd :)

hmm... -_-
I did OK to start with then took a bad RC to number 3 (over the hill). After that It sort of went down-hill. 20s on 4 then let jack catch me, then made another 20s on 5. Just scrappy. To 6 I tried to take the long round-the-path/road route but failed to find the path, It would have been a good RC but I messed it up..
Thought that I would go over the cliff rather than down the path this time but lost about 20s again on that RC.
Then Jack was running the wrong way when I left 7...
After that more bad Route choices to 8 9 and 10 (7-8 I also thought that I was going doing 8-9, 10 lost 3min on the RC). More OK/scrappy after that. Probably a good 10min lost + going slow for my ankles.

Did not like the terrain as I went over on my ankle every step hopefully its not damaged but it is painful.. We don't have ice so I went for a wade in the sea which was probably more effective.
