Gwanas
I set off quite steady. I didn't really like running on the side of the hill constantly worried about going over on my ankle. My only mistake was a ~3min error at ctrl 8 where I got lazy and didn't use my compass or check where I was going.

Jorat 10
Chasing start. There were some good route choice legs early on which I did quite well on. I caught the guy 4min ahead of me by 8 but he was a faster runner and pulled away by 11.

Note
(rest day)

I have never rested so hard in my life. Spent almost 5 hours just lying on the grass in the sun in the grounds of the Piscine Bellerive-Plage or something.

Bretaye
This was by far the hardest course I have ever done.
It was the hottest day of the week but we were saved from the worst of it by being at 1800m, so it was only in the high 20's. I really didn't handle the altitude well (I never have tbh). And whoever thought the course had 385m of climb needs shooting.

I made a complete hash of ctrl 1 with some ridiculous route through a cafe and loads more climb than the other routes. I opted to go round on 2 which would have executed it really well but for the fact that I lost my shoe in a mud-bath on a cow-path and took over 2 minutes to sort it out. I really enjoyed the next few ctrls but by the drinks station I was starting to have doubts about completing the course.
15 minutes, 2 ctrls and 2 drinks stops later I was resigned to walking the rest of the course I was completely out of breath and energy and I didn't want a repeat of Craig a Barns.
I miss punched (I don't really remember how) and was I over time so I didn't get a result today, but I am just happy that I got back and somehow managed to run the run-in!

I was pretty dead after and apparently I was a bit zoned out for the rest of the day. What a day though.

La Pile (..ha)
Middle distance race. Another scorcher in the Jura mountains.
To start with I was doing quite well. I made a small RC error on 3 and 4 but that was it. Then I got lazy.
Ctrl 5 I should have taken a bearing but didn't and I was way off loosing over 40s. Ctrl 6 I didn't have a route so just legged it and was off again. Ctrl 8 i somehow caught my 3 and 6 minute men then made a mistake when I counted an unmapped clearing and started looking in the wrong place. I was still being lazy after that though. Ctrl 9 I basically followed them because I was struggling with the pace in the less technical section.
Then the big mistake, leaving 9 I followed them to the edge of the wood but then thought we had just been to 10 (not 9) and doubled back in search of 11 it was 3minutes before I realised. I was annoyed at my earlier laziness so spiked the remaining ones almost effortlessly :/

Afterwards I watched the Women's middle final (and a bit of the Mens) across the road with Adam and Katherine.

Mont Chaubert
I was really looking forward to this and I think it was my favourite day of the Swiss 5 days. I had a major mistake at ctrl 1 doing a parallel error almost before the start kite, then getting lost. I had trouble relocating as I was not used to the map and there seemed to be many more paths. I lost a good 4min 30s here.
After that I was really fired-up and and a good bit of racing a Czech guy before I destroyed him on the downhill. I got a really good route on the long leg, then the Czech guy slowly overtook me. By ctrl 15 I was tiring. The other main route choice I did well apart from a 90 degree error right at the start.
From there on I was tired and walked much of the uphills, so fitness was again a problem.

I got bit by a massive grasshopper in the assembly field and my thumb swelled up and went a funny colour, it was hurting for a good 24 hours :/ only I can get bitten by a grashopper... The weather was good in the Jura mountains today.

Lausanne Dorigny
Sprint course on the shore of Lake Geneva, it wasn't that technical and really showed how much speed I have lost recently. I was a good 4minutes down. It didn't help that I lost quite a lot of time on some easy route choices.
I think I lost up to 1min 30s on 5, 6, 8 and 20 through route choice although 6 wasn't through any fault of mine (there were a lot of obstacles which weren't really mapped). I really enjoyed it though.

In the afternoon we went to see the Long qualification.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 4.0 km (6:15 / km)

It was very rushed to get to the start...

Note

Arrived at about 12 last night. Toady we got used to living in Lausanne and went to watch the WOC sprint final, it was amazing in every way. The crowds, the big screen, the results, the weather... too bad for Scott though.
