Note
(rest day)

Went to the office but standard enough Tuesday other than that until the early hours of the Tuesday night...
8 AM

Cycling (MTB) 59:20 [2] 22.31 km (2:40 / km) +246m 2:31 / km
ahr:137 max:169 shoes: Bontrager Foray Mountain Shoe

Out before breakfast.

Wasn't too bad weather wise, not really cold, but did seem to be threatening to rain.

Felt like I was moving ok but HR was low. Pace slower than Thursday but I did more climb and some extra trails today. Legs felt ok once warmed up so maybe early start left me sluggish. Not much of a gap between getting out of bed and starting to pedal.

Due to the early start it was quiet apart from a few joggers early on. Other than that didn't see too many people.

Note
(rest day)

Nice day so a shame to miss out on training, could have fitted it in but felt the rest wasn't a bad idea.
Did have some physical work to do so used my energy for that instead.
Had a skip bag to fill which I started on yesterday evening with the fallen fence.
So got what I could out of the shed today.
Then cut the grass when that was done.

Was a bit uncertain with the weather, had put departure off, and with a phone call it was delayed further. So seemed ok when I did get out. But there was some rain while running but didn't get soaked so wasn't that much. Not cold.

Legs feeling ok for the most part but calves got a bit tight later in the run so need to do some work on them. The tightness is putting me off doing too much over the weekend, well not racing Mangerton for a start.

Body improved on yesterday, actually thought the legs were good today, so happy with recovery from IOC so far.

Overcast but not too cold.

Saw a bike ahead of me as I started the Dinis loop and I just couldn't help myself. Caught him as I turned off to the Doo Gravel Link, knew the (road) bike would get away on the road but felt with the lumps I had a chance to catch him around Dinis. So that was the incentive I needed! PR for the link so good start. Was moving nicely then around Dinis and saw the bike in front as I hit the downhill after the bridge, could see him along by the lake ahead. Didn't catch him by the road but got close. Lad suggested I get a road bike as I passed him on the main road.

Kept ahead of him along the main road even though I detoured via the path. So that was some motivation for the middle part of the spin.

What do I do now???

It was a long build up to a 'home' irish championships (literally almost), and now that it's over, what's next on the agenda.
Mangerton race on Sunday I suppose is an option but will see how the rest of the week goes.
Other than that I have no clue in terms of what to do for the summer in terms of something to run. Have a couple of long term goals in mind but nothing in the next few months.

Took it nice and handy around Muckross, HR low and legs not feeling desperate. Right hip sore starting off but eased. Overall would say I was feeling ok after the weekend.

Note
(rest day)

RESTing after the weekend.
Body isn’t feeling that broken but definitely tired.

Another good IOC to remember. Handy that most races were minutes from home.
Results wise I think I’ll be happy with. May not have achieved my middle & relay goals but feel I couldn’t have done more so must therefore be satisfied. More training this year would have been of benefit, but all things considered I can’t complain. Legs despite being tired did cooperate for the races with no pain.

IOC Relays 2022
Knockreer
1st leg

Hadn't been the plan to run 1st but with Josh injured I had to. Magic & Boyzone made up the rest of our Open Premier (Handicap 6) team.

The start didn't go too well for me, seemed to be further behind after the first couple than I would have liked, so was chasing back early in the race.

5 was weird, control description is a copse, but just that, it was in the middle of it, would have preferred a side! I think it could well have been correct but with the pace at that stage it was hard to concentrate. Gaffled to 6 then.

Running legs then to get back to the forest. I definitely had a better line up the hill from 7 so made up some ground on that leg and then across into the forest.

Slight hesitation on 12 as had read the control code for 13. Caught back that time down the hill.

Could see Paul then in front at 17 but was wrecked after the climb up to the spectator control. Others on this gaffle went left, I went right on the path, about the same.

Last loop was straightforward.

So had some fun racing out there, Paul had about 30-40 seconds and I was 5 seconds back on Laurence. I was a lot further back position wise at 5.

Marcus and Shane had some issues, 2nd place overall. Which isn't too shabby for this team on this type of area. I did have some misgivings beforehand regarding the area, they sort of proved to be true, there were mistakes by people, the area is easy, but that's what relays do. I think the competitiveness of the race made up for things. Can't complain with the number of teams that were competitive today.

Erik & Oscar were there at the finish again today. Oscar did try to take Conall out on the run in as he finished, maybe I shouldn't have stopped him... :-)
