Ross Castle

Was concerned with my calf but it was ok, very short warm up though.

Straightforward course I felt.

12 and 17 were easily my worst controls. Overshot 12 to the left a bit and after all the talk with Susan last night about compasses, I should have used it to 17, as a result lost 20-30 seconds veering left.

Some controls were visible from a good bit away which was nice.

Was careful on 25 and 26, just to be sure of where I was. Not convinced there was a path all the way to 27, sort of disappeared but hill and control obvious.

Nice to get a run out. Some of the young fellas around who I saw together leaving 8 as I approached 20.

Not a bad day to be out on the bike. Edge decided to be slow in starting up so went with the wrist for data. Was in a hurry to get out the door before a funeral came up the road so didn't want to wait for the edge.

Feeling ok on the road. Hills around Beaufort not great. Without data in front of me I was just going on feel.

The new brewery is nearly finished, but the roads haven't improved in the last year.

Almost got on the road bike but it rained. So started on the MTB instead, should really have waited 10 minutes and i've have avoided the hailstones. Ok heading up the road but from the top of the wall downhill was dangerous, couldn't see. But cleared up then so no more issues.

Found a few hills to climb. Then threw in Loretto Road on the way home for an extra slog.

I'm happy enough with the route I chose today, nice mix.

Will hold off on running until Sunday, not convinced about the calf.

Also changed my Classic IOC class to M40, as much as it loathes me to do that, i'll not survive otherwise, not in shape to have run 2 races before it and 1 after, and want to enjoy the weekend.

Avoided the hail stones!
Cold too.

Left ankle now in trouble, banged it off the coffee table last night. Not much flesh to soften the blue to the bone. Sore.

Moving nicely enough today but could feel the body being a bit on the tired side. Mangerton Rd felt easier than last time. Then went for a loop around Poulnaderka for a few extra minutes on the bike.

Road closed from Torc adjacent to the main road so had to turn around and go back.

Got caught in a heavy shower starting out so that wasn't a good start. Was ok after that but breezy.

Also was in the office today so ran on the way home. Realised i'd no socks for running in, so ran in the pair i'd on, CK. Fancy socks to be running in. Worked fine as running socks.

Right calf didn't really enjoy itself, same issue as the last few runs. It's low in the calf, need to get it checked.

Photo bombed, or almost did, some tourists at the gap in the wall at the abbey.

Note
(rest day)

Right calf is feeling a bit better, lower part, in Tralee next week so might see about getting some physio, it's been a while.
Ankle definitely alright.

New HR strap on today since the old one didn't pick up when I put it on yesterday. Straight out of the box and onto the chest, no need to adjust the strap, fitted alright as it was.

Not the nicest of days, especially after the sun last week. Damp this morning so postponed spin until after work. Got a tiny bit of drizzle for a bit but wasn't too bad. Ears cold starting out. Some headwind too.

Kept the bike on tarmac as didn't trust the ankle, think it's alright though.

Very quiet in the national park, met very few people.

Largest group I saw was by Muckross Schoolhouse. There was a demonstration of sheep trials (the dog was doing a good job by the looks of things), a couple of the drey horses and the wolfhounds were in the car park next to the schoolhouse. I think there's a couple of hundred german travel people around so could have been for some of them.

Another write off last week but couldn't avoid it, main thing was that I wasn't sick per se. Think I might try and run on Saturday before orienteering on Sunday.

Tuesday - Rest
Wednesday - Run
