Mary joined myself and the lads. Although she says they’re not going orienteering again until they walk themselves. Had the running buggy with us and Erik plonked himself in it for most of the course.

Had to split the team up from the buggy for 3 & 4 as they were in a field. I took the lads and Mary met us at the end of the field.

A couple of nasty showers.

Had them both squashed in the buggy for the last couple to get back.

Lower Torc

Nice uphill leg to kick things off but expected something like that given where we were starting from.

It wasn't that difficult for me today, on a lot of familiar terrain. So wasn't much to it, had been in a lot of these places before. I know what's on the map but isn't there and what's not on the map but is there.

Got caught on the wrong side of a couple of features, 4 for example, fallen tree too big for me to scramble over so back around the stump.

The climb to 9 wasn't enjoyable.

12 was the only control I wasn't happy with. Didn't pay attention to the map, thought I knew what I was doing. Used the 1st MTB track (on the map) which I shouldn't have used, should have gone for one of the ones further on for a more direct approach. Then followed the wrong path but decided it wasn't right for some reason so went back. Then came across the control. Luckyish as thought the control was going to be further.

Then downhill to cross the road for a loop around the field. Not much too it apart from not liking having to cross some fences. Legs a bit stiff towards the end. Did feel like I was running better towards the end than on some of the tracks above the road but it was faster running.

Happy to have got to run though.

I wasn't the only one on the brown today, still got a superman.

Forgot to mention that one of my toes is not liking these shoes, was an issue after Wednesday's run, and it's now completely black and blue, shoe rather than an impact off a rock issue.

Got a bit windier as the morning progressed and made sure to get out early before the next band of bad weather arrives. Chilly but ok in my multiple layers.

Made a route up as I went along. Was going to do a loop in Bluepool but a couple of NPWS jeeps parked inside the gate so decided to skip it.

Legs were tired on the hills, generally alright after yesterday's run, but could feel a bit of burn. Not something to complain about.

Torc Trail Race recce

Might run it in a few weeks so thought i'd test out the course, and nice to not have to think of a route. Familiar with all the route but not necessarily put together like this.

It's not the easiest of courses with the hills where they are but nice mix of up/down and big track/small track.

Very bad night weatherwise, a lot of water fell, so underfoot conditions not great, plus I decided to not sleep for some reason! Thought about skipping today but i've missed enough exercise. Had dried up in time for the run.

The easier hills were ok but the steeper ones felt hard.

Note
(rest day)

Felt fine this morning but head not great after lunch. Pretty sure it's sinus trouble. Tried some decongestant and that helped.

Dinis still closed so made it up as I went along. A few stops for gates/barriers. Very strong wind approaching Muckross House, also strong on the open section on Mangerton Road.

Body feeling fine today. No issues pedalling.

A few trails today back towards Mangerton Road and also took a detour home via Poulnaderaka. That was tougher than I thought, started at the school end so in theory had the benefit of more downhill but first part of the track was soft on top so took a bit more effort to move forward. The later part of the track was harder. One detour to get around a fallen tree but rideable for me other than that.
