Tomies to home

One of the runs on my to-do list. Mary dropped me at the entrance to Tomies, decided to run from the road for the extra 1km rather than the car park.

The Tomies part was grand, legs felt fine. Didn't push the climb either, pace was handy. Then to find the path. Ferns/grass was high so finding the route to the start of the path was just about heading in the right direction. Path was fine. Low enough branches in places but runnable.

Came to the 'bridge' over the gully. This was never a bridge, more a log. And I really didn't like the look of the wet log. So turned up the gully where the gully disappeared quickly. Crossed over and there was a small path cut through the rhododendron back to the path. Then a bit of blue paint to indicate the way out to the next open section.

This open was rough but decided to make it rougher by climbing the hill to my left for a view of the lakes. Was easier to get back down than to get up. Then back onto a less distinct path, with some more blue markings. Next came the descent to Glena Cottage. This was rough enough going downhill so wasn't going fast.

Path flattened out and then it crossed some big slabs of stone. My feet went from under me and I landed flat on my back. That knocked me a bit but no serious damage done. Looking at it afterwards my back is marked from the landing, sort of a graze/bruise.

Came out onto a beach then with a big path to Glena Cottage. Decided to follow some steps here and got myself sort of stuck in some rhododendron, came out onto the main path again then.

Followed that and after a stream there was a junction where I took the bigger of the paths but it ended up at a dead end on the river. So turned back and saw the blue paint on the other path. That path was the one that came out into the open. More blue paint and some tape in a few places to follow to the Old Weir Bridge.

From there it was onto the road towards home. Body felt tired before I even got back to a solid surface and it really was a struggle to get home. Legs did get me there eventually but HR was a lot higher than i'd have liked to do so.

Took a gel on the road after Dinis Cottage.

No pain apart from tiredness so that's a positive.

Ran a small bit later to avoid the worst of the rain. Conditions not great around Muckross House, so maybe 10 minutes, rest of the dry was dry or had light drizzle. Didn't bother with a jacket, humid.

Legs feeling ok, calves felt a bit sketchy around the Abbey on the way back so tried to relax a bit.

Unlikely i'll get to train tomorrow, visitors, and probably next Saturday too with more visitors/bouncy castle on site, will try and train on Tuesday though.

Around Muckross

Not sure how i'm feeling but I said yesterday if I felt the same i'd train, so trained. Warm/humid so wasn't cold.

Did Dinis to start with, busyish, then a few trails before the Arboretum, up Torc but then back across to Mangerton Road and then back to my road via the Post Office Trail.

Explored the few trails in the woods before the Arboretum, went to see where the track that was overgrown with ferns ended then. So a bit stop/start here.

Some large rocks on the track between Torc Rd and Mangerton Rd but moving fast enough.

Avoided the big hills. Enjoyed it.

Going to give today a miss in order to try let the body improve.
Still a small bit sniffly, if I feel the same tomorrow I will train.

Note
(rest day)

Very bad night's sleep, my own fault plus others.

Feel like i've a slight cold, so not too happy about that. Maybe a proper night's rest will help.

We took Erik (not Oscar) to the cinema for the 1st time this afternoon. I think a film that he was seriously into helped, Paw Patrol. He sat at the edge of his seat the whole time engrossed by the film, very well behaved, he didn't even have time to eat his snacks, too busy watching. I suspect I'll end up watching that film many many more times...

Lough Guitane - Barraduff

In between more fence painting and digging out a drain on the side of the garden. Went for the easier job first with the digging for after lunch which i'll probably be suffering from tomorrow, I don't do much digging.

Legs felt ok for most of the spin but there was some tiredness on the hill up home to finish.

Realised on the way into Glenflesk that I was going to be in trouble either at the turn or on the way back from Barraduff with wind. I was proved right but was ok with it for most of the spin, only on a few occasions did I feel like it was hard.
