Kilcoran

In theory I was supposed to be waking up the SIAC for the Junior Selection race but people out before me did that job for me.

Because I was going to be running against the Juniors that provided some motivation although I'm not sure I felt the best, feel like i've a cold. Lungs ok I think.

Started off ok for 1 and 2. Then lost around 3 minutes on 3, should have been more careful, was running around not having a clue, and said so to myself at the time! Also fell and braced my impact with my left hand before getting the control. That hurt.

Could have been more direct to 4 but got it ok. Hit the drain/gully for 5 but dropped rather than climbed so time lost there. Could also have been more direct to 6 but did take a bearing, hit the control spot on though.

Slightly low on 7 but not by much. Also a small but distracted in the circle for 8 but knew where I was. Contoured ok for 9. But then to 10 I really should have done my climbing earlier. Looking at it again the drain which was at an angle would have been good to climb towards and then follow straight in the direction of the control. Descended ok to 11, didn't go flat out to be safe and took a bearing to be even safer.

Scratched my face around 13 and then fell leaving it on my left hand, sore. So that influenced my route to 14, could have been more direct in the forest but took the track around to it, mentally wasn't able for it, body hurting.

Got 15 ok but wasn't certain I was going in the right direction. There was long grass in the white forest on the way to 16 so that influenced me for the route to 17, went for the around rather than straight, but despite that the ride went on for longer than I thought. Went straight to 18 but forest was rough.

Last couple of controls were in from the track and back out.

Happy enough to not be beaten by anyone. Could have orienteered better in the open. Good physical test. Area is alright too, would come back.

Note
(rest day)

Decided an easy day would be a good idea ahead of orienteering tomorrow. Did walk around Muckross Farm after lunch so that was some limited exercise.

I really can't do MTB downhill, and i'm not even talking small tracks, big tracks are a problem. I suppose I can't get worse, can only improve...

At least I stayed upright.

Happy enough going uphill or flat, just the descents i'm not confident on.

The Torc road with the new surface was a nice descent, I enjoy tarmac, although was hard with the rain which started around then, into my eyes. Got nasty from there until nearly home, then the road up home was dry, typical.

A new battery in the HR strap seems to have done the trick.

Muckross

Wore the old shoes. Overcast but good running conditions.

Legs are tired after 2 trainings this week! Going to rest on Saturday I think.
Quads in particular.

Was happy enough with how I was moving, ended up doing more climb than I expected. But didn't really have a full route in mind. Also ended up doing more climb as ran into Mark near the high point, so turned and ran with him. Nice to have company.

Left him at the Upper Torc car park and then ran down the newly resurfaced road for a bit before dropping down to the MTB trails by the old water tanks. Right calf felt a bit tight on the road but ok afterwards.

Had a short stop too after Killegy House to check HR strap, appears that it was the watch rather than the strap was providing the data, strap not connected. So maybe it needs another battery!

Drizzle

Thought about running but drizzle seemed light but then got heavy when I started before getting lighter again. Happy with the decision.

Enjoyed the spin.

Quieter around Dinis due to the weather i'd say.

Did the start of the road up to Torc, nice surface. Must give the road bike a spin on it although they have put in speed bumps, room to avoid them to the side, but not so easy going down.

Cut across to Mangerton Road on the forest track, so first bit of rougher stuff which isn't that rough. Have a lot of learning to do skill wise. Enjoyed it though and was moving alright.

Lot of cleaning to do when I got home, need to purchase a hose, for the bike and for me. Lucky Mary was at work so had a chance to clean the mud that fell off me without her seeing it.

Muckross

HR higher than it should be but to be expected after a couple of weeks off. Probably ran too fast too.

Thought it might rain but weather was ok.

Surprised a fella at the Abbey, I doubt he was expecting me to come past as he went for a p***.
