ahr:151 max:169 shoes: New Balance 890 v8 (red)

Legs not happy today, left achilles sorer than recent runs and right calf questionable but ok I think. No issues afterwards. Left ankle ok for the run but know it's not 100%.

Would have liked to have run 5 min/km but most were faster.

Cool morning but probably warmest day of the week. Some ice in places, the worst of it near the Abbey. On the way back I could feel a very noticable drop in temperature on the path along by the pondy/marshy area after the Abbey, a deifinite nip in the air here with frost on the ground that wasn't anywhere else on the run.

Was thinking while running that if i went to Mangerton or Torc they'd have been busier. Read an article on Rte.ie that there are 100 cars parked on Mangerton Road, with some people from more than 50km away!

Family Self-Isolation - Day 13 of 17

Avg Cadence = 103rpm

Ozark S01 E05
Needed a change from Breaking Bad and this gave for a slightly longer spin too at the weekend, so suited. Time actually passed by quickly, didn’t find it too hard today, so another day of exercise done.

Family Self-Isolation - Day 12 of 17
Mary has a cold so decided to get tested given Oscar’s test, result was negative, so that’s good.

Muckross

Left it a bit later to let the roads thaw out. The ice did make me wonder what footwear to wear, so wore the aptly named 'Icebugs' to be safe. Nice day for a run.

Forest trails were alright, no issues. Tried to keep to the softer paths due to the footwear.

Legs mostly alright until my ankle gave trouble very close to the end, tiredness i'd say. Could feel my achilles at times but not too bad.

Turbo Trainer 44:30 [3]
ahr:136 max:146

Avg Cadence = 101rpm

Breaking Bad S04 E09

Actually went better than yesterday for some reason, HR a bit lower and cadence slightly up. Did feeling a bit better than yesterday.
Actually HR is a lot different to yesterday.

Sun shining outside but cold, maybe some sleet overnight, saw a car slide it's back out taking off from the lane opposite us earlier!

That fecking cat had to hop up on the windowsill a minute after I started looking to come in. Lovely day outside with the sun shining but very cold.
Set myself up in Erik's room for a change.

Found this tough going towards the end but got there.

Family Self-Isolation - Day 9 of 17

Trails/Road 43:02 [3] 9.02 km (4:46 / km) +82m 4:34 / km
ahr:158 max:172 shoes: New Balance 890 v8 (red)

Cold again today, around 0 for the run, may have stretched to 1 when I finished. Not icy but puddles were frozen solid.

Realised after about a km that the buff I was wearing to keep my neck warm could be used as a face covering if I encountered anyone. Didn't get close to anyone though. Closest was probably the runner I passed after Torc, he was in front of me after the waterfall car park along by the field, and couldn't help myself in closing the gap.

Legs feeling ok, have felt worse recently. Ankle had some tape on it, but didn't give any trouble. Did run too fast though, my own fault as usual.

Note
(rest day)

My review of 2020 won't be in numbers, the year started badly and finished on the same note. In between things were better than they'd been in years, mainly in the form of consistency. That meant nothing in the end as I didn't race once all year!

So looking forward to 2021, if I can get a more consistent start to the year that would be good. Working from home definitely suits with the kids in terms of being able to train, and that should continue for a while i'd say.

Again, hard to know if there will be races this year, but would like to be optimistic.

Family Self-Isolation - Day 7 of 17

And for this week's plan.

With Mary and the boys at home i'm not sure about how turbo trainer will work, will see if I can get it set-up in Erik's room, that might work. Last week went to plan which was a good start to the year. Might be walking with the kids again like Lockdown 1, can't take them anywhere else.

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Run
Wednesday - Turbo
Thursday - Turbo
Friday - Run
Saturday - Turbo
Sunday - Run
