Think I got lucky with the weather, thought it would be one of those days when it would be wet up high, it was the reverse in fact, weather probably better at Molls Gap than at home. No wind too. Lakes were calm.

Did get distracted by looking at the lake on the way up between Torc and Dinis, nearly ran over a red squirrel as a result!

Legs a small bit tired after yesterday but actually this went alright. Didn't think i'd be under 11 for Ladies View, HR didn't climb that much but I did try to keep the effort consistent. Did push for the last few hundred metres, HR went up on a ramp so tried to keep it up.

Met a few bikes coming against me but nothing in front of me to chase. Also had a clear descent.

Farranfore-Castleisland-Tralee-Killorglin-Beaufort

Plan was for 100km and that was achieved. Went better than expected. Was probably feeling stronger nearing home today compared to last Saturday. Probably would have hit 100 exactly but took in our walking loop to be sure.

Weather was better than expected. Started without the jacket but did stop before O'Riadas to put it on as the drizzle had got heavier. Took it off between Castlemaine and Milltown, but thought i'd got it wrong as it was drizzling in Milltown. Dried up quickly and was actually dry all the way home with the sun trying to get through the clouds.

Had 2 gels, a trek berry bar and 8 jelly babies. That got me through today. Last gel before Beaufort to ensure i'd something left.

The hills weren't too fast, didn't let the HR go too high, it didn't want to anyways. Was a bit apprehensive about the new road out of Milltown, hadn't done it from this direction before. It actually turned out to be easier than I expected. So that was a nice bonus with a nice descent on the far side down towards Killorglin.

Slight headwind back from Killorglin to Beaufort, but not too strong. Thankfully, as if it was stronger I think it would have been a long spin home.

Had researched a couple of routes but went for this one as it was on all roads that i'm familiar with, albeit some roads that I used to cycle a lot when living in Tralee but very rarely get on them these days. Other routes, like extending last weeks spin to take in BallyV and the Top of Coom would have been a lot tougher.

Lucky decision in terms of route!

Left it a bit later than usual to give the weather a chance to improve. Roads had mostly dried up and it was warm.

HR seemed a bit high at times but lungs not under pressure.

Probably the wrong route to take due to traffic. Ok going in but Mission Road was busy, got by the traffic as a jarvey had held up traffic coming against me. Lucky.

They'd cut back the hedge next to the road after Beaufort Bridge. From foliage coming out over the road, it's now well over a metre back from the road edge.

Had another go at making Banana Bread yesterday. Oscar not quick enough to eat his bananas. Definitely came out better than my previous attempt. Different recipe and I know what the main problem with the 1st effort was and wasn't going to do that again.

Physio 1:00:00 [0]

Basically calves, both of them in fact, are tight.

Started off with more foot work. Have some exercises to do on them, will help with impact if I can improve my feet and toes. Also got a link to an online course on feet!

Was hoping this run would go better but it didn’t.

Slow pace and was feeling fine until 2k. Then issue that surfaced with right calf last week came back so basically headed back to the car.

New surface on the track where the bridle path meets the main track. That was always muddy.

Will get physio when I can. Bike until then.

KCC Individual Performance Test

6 weeks since I tried it last so interesting to see if i've gained or lost anything in the intervening period. Good day for it, don't think it was that windy and it was also warm.

June 9th - 37.39 (13.36, 10.54, 14.23)
June 16th - 38.22 (13.14, 11.09, 15.09)
June 24th - 36.08 (12.56, 10.39, 13.37)
June 30th - 37.01 (13.45, 10.24, 14.03)
August 11th - 36.42 (13.12, 10.46, 13.50)

2nd fastest time and not that far off. All splits slower today. Happy with how I managed the effort. Avg HR higher today though.

Decided to wear the skinsuit to see if that made a difference, probably gave me a mental boost as opposed to anything.

Lost some seconds on the climb/ramp between Glenfesk and Barraduff. There was a tractor came out behind me from Headford so stayed ahead of him to the bridge but he passed me after that. Half way up the climb he'd to stop as a car was coming against him and the road was narrow. So i'd to ease off behind him so momentum lost on the climb. Although maybe got a breather too.

Note
(rest day)

Last week went off the rails after running on Wednesday so hopefully i'll get back on them later this week. Calf doesn't feel too bad walking around but might give it another couple of days without running. Also think I might try the Performance Test on the bike tomorrow, will see. I've not checked the forecast either.

Tuesday - Bike
Wednesday - Run
