Farranfore-Castleisland-Tralee-Killorglin-Beaufort
Plan was for 100km and that was achieved. Went better than expected. Was probably feeling stronger nearing home today compared to last Saturday. Probably would have hit 100 exactly but took in our walking loop to be sure.
Weather was better than expected. Started without the jacket but did stop before O'Riadas to put it on as the drizzle had got heavier. Took it off between Castlemaine and Milltown, but thought i'd got it wrong as it was drizzling in Milltown. Dried up quickly and was actually dry all the way home with the sun trying to get through the clouds.
Had 2 gels, a trek berry bar and 8 jelly babies. That got me through today. Last gel before Beaufort to ensure i'd something left.
The hills weren't too fast, didn't let the HR go too high, it didn't want to anyways. Was a bit apprehensive about the new road out of Milltown, hadn't done it from this direction before. It actually turned out to be easier than I expected. So that was a nice bonus with a nice descent on the far side down towards Killorglin.
Slight headwind back from Killorglin to Beaufort, but not too strong. Thankfully, as if it was stronger I think it would have been a long spin home.
Had researched a couple of routes but went for this one as it was on all roads that i'm familiar with, albeit some roads that I used to cycle a lot when living in Tralee but very rarely get on them these days. Other routes, like extending last weeks spin to take in BallyV and the Top of Coom would have been a lot tougher.
Lucky decision in terms of
route!
