Muckross

Same route as last Sunday with a few interruptions to fix hat, open fruit pouch, water, etc. Did think I’d be solo but Erik changed his mind before I got going.

Legs ok, but some feeling in the calves at times. Happy with the pace with a slight increase towards the end. Legs were tired though starting off but they got better once warmed up. Tired legs is a good thing, means I’ve not been idle.

Normal early stop to check river for ducks was surprising this morning, a deer in the river, but no ducks.

2 long laps

And 2 minutes slower than last Friday week. Which I don't think is too bad considering the wind that was blowing from the northwest today. Could have been a lot slower if I didn't take a nice tow off a tractor on the 2nd lap from Ardaneanig to Mr Price. Think that saved me.

Legs feeling tired again this morning but not too bad cycling. Think I was more cruising on the bike than trying. Did have an early stop for a jacket. Weather was weird, saw some drizzle on the way so put on the jacket, not that nice on the N72, but was dry on the Muckross Road and Mangerton Road when I got there, tempted to take the jacket off as was the right call. Hit the drizzle again on the main roads. 2nd lap I found a bit colder.

The climbs weren't great, Crosstown poor but into a headwind. Ok on Mangerton Road. And gave the 2nd run up Mangerton Rd a bit of effort so was similar to the first time around.

Last spin in the 5km zone, next one will be able to explore a bit more. Cycling club have created a segment and have suggested people ride it solo on Tuesday evening, and on a few more dates, an individual performance test. Think I'll do it in the morning as evenings don't suit, and see how it goes. It's one of my usual routes anyway, the Lissyviggeen-Glenflesk-Barraduff circuit.

Random loop

Knew I wanted to do 50km tomorrow but not really sure what I wanted to do today. Made it up as I went along. With a bonus attempt at improving a segment time on the way. That being said legs were tired today, could feel them after I woke up this morning. Yesterday's run had more of an affect than I thought. Mostly ok on the flat but going uphill was hard, not to mention into a headwind.

Some drizzle/rain this morning but managed to avoid it while cycling, had a webinar so got out later than usual, so worked out for the better.

Had a look at Lough Guitane to see how the water levels are looking, they are lower than normal.

Was looking forward to the 20km zone next week but sounds like that will be irrelevant with a County zone on the horizon instead. Most of my spins on the bike are within 20km anyways that I normally do.

Upper Torc

Knew where I wanted to start the run and the direction I wanted to go in but after that I kind of made it up as I went along with the goal of running 10k. Achieved that goal, but the amount of climb wasn't part of the original plan, jut ended up that way when I decided to climb up Torc waterfall.

Big change in the weather today, cooler and damp. Mostly dry for the run but some drizzle.

Legs felt ok today, no troubles, so that was good. Helps make running more enjoyable when there's no pain.

Muckross

Had to go into the office again today so fitted this in after putting Oscar down to sleep and before cooking dinner. Worked out nicely. One last spin on Tiernan's bike before it goes back to him. Been thinking about a replacement but not many bikes around at the moment after the Covid-19 bike sales boom! I don't think there'll be as much objection to a new bike this year.

Strange to be training this late but worked out ok. Some wind about but turned into a nice day. Wasn't that bad either this morning at 730 in Killarney when I started work, the drizzle disappeared.

The hill up to the upper torc car park was tough.

About two thirds of the way down the page of this article on the 1982 Cork marathon my dad gets a mention. He was doing well for having a 15 month old me at home!!!
I'm not inclined to better that feat.

Note
(rest day)

Busy day in the office, made a change to the normal routine at home, which i've gotten used to. Felt like getting the weekly shop done to get home at a reasonable hour almost equated to actual training based on the weight of stuff in the trolley and the effort in getting it packed at the tills.

Body feeling good.

Over and back

Poor sleep last night, I don't like to lay the blame on someone, but it was Oscars fault! Maybe the heat is getting to him.

So wasn't convinced this would be enjoyable this morning, but definitely was able to put in some more effort than I did on Saturday, had breakfast and gave it a couple of hours to settle before heading out, so that may have helped.

Lovely day but there was a breeze which I had into my face coming back the N22. Did then have it at my back coming along the Flesk so used it to put a bit more effort into that section and did improve on my PR.

Added some extra km in at the end around Mangerton Road and was ok up the wall. Found it hot at the top though.

Note
weight:73.5kg

Have lost some weight over the last few weeks but think the hair cut contributed the most.

Monday - Bike
Tuesday - Rest
Wednesday - Bike
Thursday - Run
Friday - Bike
Saturday - Bike
Sunday - Run

Same plan again this week, 4 bike & 2 run. Rest day tomorrow as i've to go to the office for most of the day. So trained today. No harm in 7 days, rest, and then 5 days. Last week of the 5km limit, looking forward to some of my old cycle routes.

Quick comparison of last year to this year, April & May, and i've definitely done a lot more cycling, not so much extra running. Weighing 3kg heavier now though! So a lot more to do on that count.
