Torc/Mangerton

This is the route I identified last week. Looked at the map last night and roughly measured it. Thought it might take and hour and it did. Would've been faster if I hadn't gone over on my ankle as soon as I stepped onto the Mangerton path, needed the ankle for that stoney descent!

Route was actually better than expected, runnable in most places. Followed some deer paths and grassy bits once across the river. Then followed an old fence next to a stream and then cut up to the high point for some good views down over the lakes and across to Torc Mountain.

Next part was probably the roughest, some heather before some bog, and then a tricky slope to get across which was slippy. This was above the Tooreencormack Battlefield according to the map. A small bit rough getting across to the Mangerton path but not too bad. Had planned on hitting the path higher up but lower down had better runnability going across the slope.

Cut through the forest then to take the corner out. Legs a small bit tired at this stage but not too bad.

Nice to do something different.

Left off the HR strap in favour of the built in HR monitor to see if that makes a difference.

Torc

Before breakfast on a mix of trail types, small to start, then some big with small towards the end. Legs feeling ok, calf felt a bit dodge passing Killegy House on the way up, but settled again. Kept pace slow to mind it. Thought things were going well with my left ankle but it rolled on a track, wasn't taped. Hurt for a bit and started to regret carrying on with the planned route due when i'd the option to stay flatter.

Plenty of uphill for a change. Think I might do some more running uphill tomorrow morning depending on the weather.

Only met a few deer in the woods, very quiet otherwise.

Had a short break after about 30 minutes to let Elvis in the window. Then had to get off the bike to let him out of the room as he was trying to knock my laptop off the windowsill.

Felt like effort was better than Wednesday. So need a few more sessions. HR a load of crap i'd say.

(rest day)

Bad night last night, probably lost at least 2 hours sleep due to an upset baby. So decided to give today a skip training wise. Really want to avoid exhaustion again and/or getting sick.

Cadence back on last session on the turbo. Not being on the bike for over a month i'd say has had an affect. Think i'll go on the turbo again tomorrow to give the calf an extra day off running. Not that it feels bad, but an extra day between runs can't do any harm.

Had a break in the last 10 minutes, headphone cable got tangled up in the chainring!

HR looking dodgy again in places.

Not much time as trip to the cinema on the agenda.

Took it easy on the calf and needed to. Think anything faster would resulted in trouble. Needs a bit of work. I’m probably long overdue a trip to the physio too. Will see how the rest of the week goes.

Proud of myself running too, chap ran by me running quicker and I didn’t increase my pace to keep up.

The lads survived their babysitter, just about! We wondered why the curtains to Erik’s room were open when we got back, it was so the babysitter could look in the window to check on him. Also couldn’t see Erik in the cot as we went by, turns out the babysitter when faced with cot or bed when putting him down, felt bed was where he normally slept so put him there.
And no it wasn’t Elvis babysitting.

Feeling ok after yesterday, not too wrecked, which is how I wanted to feel! Right calf feeling ok too, worked on it yesterday after the race and in the evening, so that has loosened it out.

Don't have a weekend plan, i'll assume a run, but might take it easy on Sunday, we'll see.
