Goal Mile 2019
Expectations were that sub 6 would be good. No way I’m in great shape at the moment after the last few weeks. Also had a running buggy to push and to get it around a few corners.
Started hard, waiting for the road to clear as 1st corner is tight. Start was akin to the start of a bobsleigh run. Sprinting off hard pushing. Then after the first two corners there was the very fast run down to the bridge. Doing fast here.
A few people to negotiate before the bridge and then at the bridge there was a small girl on a scooter with her mother blocking the narrow gate. Had to go past and then turn. Probably safer at speed but did cost a second or so.
Started to suffer along the river walk. And definitely suffering before the bridge and short climb to follow. Had looked at my watch so knew sub 6 was doable. So gave what I could to the finish line. Happy. Erik happy too.

With Erik in the running buggy. Cool morning but no ice. Not bad running conditions.

Would have run a bit more but thought Erik might fall asleep. Didn’t want that to happen as had to get home. Legs feeling fine. Also noticed a headwind on the way back up towards Deenagh Lodge so that could have helped the downhill.
