Blackrock
1st time this area used, mostly, although the course did visit an area that was part of an old map, Beaumont Park. Not sure i'm bothered with too much analysis given the type of race that it was, urban. Plan was to run hard and am happy with how I actually ran, don't think I could have done too much more. Not happy to have lost time early on but happy to see my splits in the later half of the course were on a par with Zach.
Did get caught with number 1, the planner had a tricky start, short run out to a set of steps which needed to be descended. Hard to look at a map at the same time. Part of my problem was that in my head I expected a short control for number 1, but it wasn't. Didn't chose the best route, but that happened on a few occasions. Once I had a route though I then opened up the legs. Mainly just hesitant to get going. After that my flow was better.
Planned ahead a good bit, the course wasn't technical, more about deciding on a route and then running. I did stop for a couple of seconds between 10-11 to work out 16. Had seen the control on the way to 5 but an option to get to it was hard to see. Couldn't see the route but knew there had to be one. Eventually copped it was the railway line I wanted.
I didn't pick the shortest route on a few occasions but I had no issues executing, no wrong turns.
Visited Niall Bourke's estate for 5 and then passed Bobby's on the way to 6.
I caught up with robrunner on my way to 11, passed him and encouraged him to tag along. His response was that he was on a different course, I was shocked!
