Road warm up/down 7:07 intensity: (2:08 @1) + (4:48 @2) + (11 @3) 1.06 km (6:44 / km)
ahr:124 max:133 shoes: Brooks Ghost 10

Short run up to the top of new road with Dermot and back again while the queue at registration dissipated.

Orienteering race 6:16 [4] 1.22 km (5:09 / km) +2m 5:07 / km
ahr:153 max:170 0c shoes: Brooks Ghost 10

Went to first 2 controls but they weren’t out yet so jogged back to the start again to ask when they’d be out.

Orienteering race 33:24 [4] 7.17 km (4:40 / km) +50m 4:30 / km
ahr:175 max:182 shoes: Brooks Ghost 10

Killarney Urban

Score course for the long today, the normal course would probably have been more of a challenge as this was straight forward enough.

A couple of hesitations in the town section but nothing major. Decided against going through the Inisfallen Mall as that was a route choice and map seemed solid but with a veg change?

Then another hesitation up around O’Sullivans place , stopped too early.

Lost a few seconds at Knockreer House too, had to backtrack to get to a higher level. Experience here before helped.

Didn’t feel that fit running but it was after a few days enforced rest. At least I got to go out. Still though HR is high for what isn’t that hectic a pace.

Road warm up/down 4:16 [1] 0.49 km (8:38 / km) +1m 8:31 / km
ahr:123 max:166 shoes: Brooks Ghost 10

Token slow warm down. Legs feeling tired/sore from road running but ok.

Wondering if a mince pie counts as part of Anton’s suggested post race carb intake?

And another day off. Could probably have done something indoors today but better off taking the chance to recover from these what appear to be frequent at this stage bouts of illness. At least this time it was just limited to a sore throat for a couple of days.

Christmas tree and decorations now up. Elvis was climbing the tree before there were any decorations near the tree, he's another year older, but still expect to be shouting at him a lot in the next few weeks to let the tree alone.

Day off work, did some tidying in the training room and got the Christmas decorations down from the attic. About the sum total of my day. But needed to have a rest. Not feeling worse so that's something.

Still not right. Throat more or less better but feeling crappy/tired. Sleep is definitely problematic this week which is one thing I do need, but there's some serious teething going on.

Might take tomorrow off work to recover and/or make a start on the list of jobs that needs to be done at home.

Note
(rest day)

Dosed up again going to bed last night, throat wasn't feeling too bad before bed but woke up around 4 with an unhappy throat. Ok this morning. Definitely not training for a couple of days but think that should be all that's needed. Just a bit of a slump.

Note
(rest day)

I suspected that going to bed last night that something might not be right, that feeling was confirmed at around 2am when I woke up with a sore throat, gargled some dispirin. Still sore when I got up this morning. Won't train today and fingers crossed it's only a minor hiccup to week and it doesn't result in any other problems.

Note

Right calf feeling a bit on the tight side after running last night. Stretched & rolled so will see how it goes.

Monday - Turbo
Tuesday - Run
Wednesday - Turbo
Thursday - Turbo
Friday - Run
Saturday - Bike
Sunday - Orienteering

Will leave the end of the week sort of flexible in terms of doing something, could put in a rest day if needed time wise. Just not sure how this week will turn out. Have decided that i'm going to take a break the end of next week though, won't bring my running shoes to Lisbon, that's my current thinking.

Avg Cadence = 102rpm

El Chapo S02 E07

Quads feeling a bit tired but got through it. I noticed my glutes giving out as soon as I started on the MTB on Saturday but no issues on this bike, reckon the set-up on the MTB is off.
