(rest day)

Decided i'd best fill in the hole I made in the flower bed looking for the telephone wire. Did a few minutes digging first and actually found the wire :-) So filled in the rest of the hole, only a small pile of earth left to go back once i decide what's the next course of action.

Ring of the Reeks 2018

Relaxed start with the Run Killarney race to get by at the INEC, but once we got passed the road closure at Muckross House it was up with the pace and the run in to Ladies View. Up there sub 10, but did lose the wheel of the front 3 which included Conor and John Brosnan.

Heavy shower of rain on the way up too which wasn't enjoyable. Lads waited at Ladies View along by the lake, and didn't move too fast again until closer to Molls Gap. Was able to hang on this time. And from there we moved fast into the wind down to the food stop.

After the food stop it was on to Ballaghbeama. Was under pressure, HR high, at the end trying to follow Conor, time on this climb was onl 4 seconds down on the overall climb, but 38 seconds off for the last km. Kinda knew that it wasn't the same effort as last time 2 years ago.

Quick stop to pick up a few lads in Glencar. Then on towards Caragh Lake. Along here it was 4 of us from Killarney plus another lad in Verge kit. This was the group that made it to the end. The few kicks along by the lake with the young Killarney lad and Conor pushing the pace on these which dropped everyone else.

Between Killorglin and Beaufort the road was very wet which meant I got soaked. But with the tailwind it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Got home quickly with the wind. Was happy with how the legs were feeling on this tough run home, after 90km they weren't that bad, although in the last few km trying to hang on to Conor they were on the limit.

As usual for a sportive it was tough going.

(rest day)

Work night out so left the office at 4! That being said I left for Home at 830, responsibilities, that being said Erik was asleep when I got home. He was very chatty last night though at 330am.

Tired, legs in the morning, and head later on. Will probably cycle tomorrow, gear ready, but shoes still wet after last night.

Given the weather I felt just the rollout to the start would be enough. It was.

Kerry County Championships 2018

Not a bad course on a bad evening. Worst day of the summer weather wise i'd say. Wet. Thought it might dry up, which it did for the first part of the race but up beyond Knocknagoshel it got bad again.

Race didn't work out as i'd have liked. Was hoping to get away from the other A4s, which I did try and do a few times, but to no avail. When it came to the sprint a car coming against us, people slowing up, and basically not clued in to how much of the race was left didn't help. My own fault mostly.

Before that though I didn't feel great on the run up from Knocknagoshel, didn't realise until seeing the elevation afterwards that it was uphill. But not sure body is 100%.

Enjoyed it anyways.

On with the jacket and straight back down the hill to the car and dry clothes. Miserable again when I did get back to the car which meant changing was even more fun. Didn't feel cold though.

Note
(rest day)

Day off as planned. Really needed. Legs are fine but body in general is in a bit of trouble. Entire bottom lip is a cold sore! Since it's the entire lip i'll blame the sun on Saturday but overall I feel like i'm tired.

Needed 3 new tyres on the car too so pricey day out.

Muckross

Didn’t get out of work as planned, it’s great fun these days! And then had to change a tyre on the car after I got home. So rather than take a couple of days rest, I’ll need to get a couple of new tyres tomorrow evening, got out late.

Was actually a nice evening for a run. Took it steady with Achilles needing a few minutes to warm up. Also not as much daylight on some trails as I’d have liked. Legs felt fine after last Saturday.

Just made up a route as I went along with the time being what I wanted to do. Put an effort in for the hill after the school house, get heart used to working hard, but still 10 seconds off the KOM. They are going to be difficult to find.

Note

Plan for the week. Probably need to try and get last Saturday out of my legs, so will see how that lingers.

Monday - Cycling
Tuesday - Run
Wednesday - Rest
Thursday - Run
Friday - Rest
Saturday - Cycling
Sunday - Cycling

*forgot there's a work night out on Friday so that rules out training!

**2nd edit, Thursday's run even though might be more suited to the weather forecast, cycling is now on the agenda, County Championships. 2 days notice is good!

Cycling 1:02:25 [3] 33.29 km (1:52 / km) +164m 1:50 / km
ahr:145 max:166

Damp start but looked brighter out west so hit the road rather than the turbo. Worked out fine, only some drizzle to start and sunny out in Beaufort.

Legs feeling better than expected. Happy with how I was moving. No hills on this route so didn't have them to worry about.

Bit of a tailwind coming home so that was nice. Did feel like I was struggling at Muckross Church but might have been the wind.
