ahr:124 max:179 55c shoes: VJ Falcons 2014

Controls out for tomorrow.

No idea how long it would take, and probably would have bet on it taking less time if I had to. Definitely tired by the end of it.

Hopefully people enjoy themselves tomorrow.

Shamrock O-Ringen 2018
Day 1
Don't think it can be called The Crags anymore since most are no longer on the map!

Straightforward enough. Tried as much as I could but suffered physically towards the end.

Dropped to the right and low for 4. Then was careful back to 5. Knew where I was approaching the control so was ok.

Probably not the best route to 8.

Downhill to 13 things weren't going too badly, but between 13 and 14 I slipped on some bare rock, so shook me a bit. Also went a bit left of the line.

And then to 15 crossing the stream before the control the rock I stepped on moved and hurt my left big toe. Sore. But not broken. Will blame that for the 1 second loss to Magic.

Happy enough with my time all things considered.

Trails 10:18 [2] 1.17 km (8:47 / km)

Down the hill with Magic to download.

Killarney

Not sure my head needed this type of event, definitely a challenge, and also reading the detail on the map was even more of a challenge.

Got the controls in the right order.

Not running too hard.

Orienteering race 11:45 [3] * 2.57 km (4:35 / km) +15m 4:27 / km

Killarney

Normal course this time. No real orienteering issues. Did go around the bridge to 5 rather than go straight across the river. Also had trouble finding the one back in the trees after the loop of Deenagh Lodge. Other than that a few seconds lost to 12 telling some people what time the event was over at.

Nice to be running.

Note
(rest day)

Another day off. Again it fecking rained so my grass remains uncut, with the heat and not rain it's going to be a jungle by next week.

Control descriptions printed and cut up for Monday.

Left achilles sore walking around today, thinking the shoes i'm wearing may not be helping, time for a new pair.

Note
(rest day)

Tired today.

Tough day walking around villages in South Kerry in the sun!

Had planned on cutting the grass but it rained when I got home.

Erik started Baby Pilates today with his mother, he was good at engaging his core.

Road 48:31 [3] 10.17 km (4:46 / km) +92m 4:34 / km
ahr:148 max:159 shoes: Brooks Ghost 10

Highlight of the run was seeing a chap cycling, fast, a penny farthing bike next to Deenagh Lodge.

Left ankle still not recovered after going over on it Sunday warming up. Calves also not great. Achilles didn’t feel good at work but better in running shoes.

It was warm out, definitely not used to these sort of temperatures but good to have. My mother in law was saying it was too warm to run, but I don’t listen to her most of the time!

Thursday - Rest
Friday - Orienteering (Killarney Urban)
Saturday - Orienteering (Shamrock Day 1)

My cycling club have their league race on Thursday, wouldn't mind racing, but think I need to conserve energy ahead of the weekend.

Cycling 59:22 [3] 33.36 km (1:47 / km) +159m 1:44 / km
ahr:154 max:175 shoes: Spiuk ZS11

Time adjusted to moving time. Had a bad time with traffic lights this evening.

Not used to cycling with a dry mouth due to it being warm. Bit of wind though on the way in to town and out to Beaufort so was looking forward to a tailwind on the way home.

With the lights I’d practice accelerating from a stop.
