Upper Torc + Torc Mountain

Lap around upper torc to get a bit of extra distance, felt doing it before rather than after going high would mean I actually did it. Feeling ok.

Sheltered in the forest but wasn't the same up on Torc. Strong wind so with the changing directions of the path some parts were easier to run than others. Up near the top there was a real bite to the weather, something like hail with the wind. So wasn't pleasant. No stopping to enjoy the view, which did exist. Glad to get descending but wind into the face meant that had to be careful at times.

Sunday, and Easter Sunday at that, was probably not a good day to go running up here. Lots and lots of people on a narrow path! Big group early on, with some of them turning around I think, so had them on the way down near the bottom.

Legs ok for the run, once warmed up. And alright afterwards I think. Calves a bit on the tight side but nothing major.

Early start this morning as had an Easter Egg hunt to attend.

So not much time, if any, between porridge and getting on the bike. Was actually ok climbing but could feel my stomach after starting the descent.

Not a bad morning, sun out, but chilly, a light frost.

Surprised with faster climb this morning of Ladies View than Wednesday, 47 seconds of a difference. Rode Wednesday out of the saddle but sat down this morning, will focus on sitting down in the future.

Before Torc I saw a bike up the road so that was an early target, passed 2 bikes before Dinis. Then also passed another bike quickly above Ladies View, so didn't get much benefit from them.

Lights for the roadworks not there so didn't have to worry about a break. Able to stay clipped in door to door.

Time looking average for this time of year.

Tir na Spideoige

Checking control site locations with Controller. Had a few tags to replace due to the fire that has burnt at least 25%, probably more of the area :-)

Pace was slow, only logging moving time, then left the Controller to look at more controls while I headed for home. Waiting to hear back from him regarding the status of tags for those controls, expecting some will need replacing.

Did a bit of map checking on the way back for the 10s course.

Cold day but stayed dry, thought we might be in for a soaking as heavy drizzle when I left home. Snow on the ground around the County Bounds so will take cold.

Not a bad evening for a run, sun out which was the main thing.

Achilles a bit iffy before warming up. Started out maybe too fast and tried to slow the pace during the run, not sure I was successful.

Start of a long weekend now :-)

Overall time better than early efforts last year but climb time 21 seconds back on 1 year ago.

Got stopped by the traffic lights on the way up, road works nearly finished. So a 2 minute rest, count down clock on the lights, but timed it nicely on the way down. New surface before 5 mile bridge, nice. But some new pot holes elsewhere.

Weather a bit iffy, some showers going so got a bit damp. Also it felt like there was headwind.

Legs feeling ok, tight glutes at times, really need to stretch them more. I think the sport switching is having an affect. Achilles feeling ok though after yesterdays run during today so that's something.

1.5 hours in CUMH to be seen for 5 minutes. Positives being everything is good.

Knockreer

Went clockwise for a change! More road than trail so going to categorise as a road run.

Can’t say Achilles was too happy with itself running, not painful, but noticed it at times. At least right shin was fine. Ended up running a bit further than I thought I would, suppose that’s what happens when you have a route but not a length. Maybe there are advantages to running the same place all the time!

Plenty of people out and about.

Note
(rest day)

Right shin sore yesterday evening but less so this morning. Hoping it was something I tweaked yesterday while avoiding a fall rather than a new injury. Will be able to rest today anyways.

With the change in the hour over the weekend i'm definitely looking forward to getting outside on the bike, so turbo season is almost over.

Monday - Rest (last ante-natal class, that was fast!)
Tuesday - Running
Wednesday - Rest/Bike/Turbo (Cork in the morning so not sure when we'll be home)
Thursday - Bike (half thinking of taking the day off)
Friday - Running (might go to Tir na Spideoige, need to re-tag some sites due to recent burning)
Saturday - Bike
Sunday - Running

As it's Easter the weekend plan despite specifying what I want to do for the moment, i'll accept some flexibility in it. Not sure when Mary wants to take Emilia (niece) Easter Egg hunting!
