Weather a bit miserable this morning. Down towards the casement memorial and back with Tommy. A lap of the car park. And then back down to the start. Legs feeling alright.

Banna 10k

Are there any positives to take from today's race, possibly, but don't really feel like there are any at the moment. Left calf gave up at 7km. Tried to keep the pace up for another km, but jogged home from the 8km mark.

Had a plan for the race pace wise, and was pleased with how I was achieving that. Knew the last 2km were going to be tough due to a strong headwind, but had put myself into a position to suffer through it. Was in 3rd place, didn't try to follow the leader or the 2nd placed chap, staying with them wasn't an option. So had something to fight for at the end, but didn't get to fight.

1. 3.30
2. 3.24
3. 3.29
4. 3.30
5. 3.29
6. 3.29
7. 3.26

So 7 consistent kilometres. Those 7km had me through that point at 24.17, a good bit faster than the same point in Killarney where 7km took 24.53. A PB was definitely on.

Then the same crap that keeps on happening to my legs decided to surface, if it's not the right calf it's the left causing trouble. Running really doesn't seem to like me. Got a few months out of the summer with training, happy with fitness, today was another step, and a step too far.

Again back to being seriously pissed off with running. GRRRRRRR.

Glenflesk-Killarney

Easy spin ahead of racing tomorrow. Didn't feel much motivation today so not a great spin as a result.

Bit of rain around Minish but not too bad. Avoided some of the heavy showers going.

Thought legs were tired based on the start but don't think so.

Doing something today will at least somewhat justify the amount of time i'll spend sitting on the couch today!

Usual route with an extra bit around the boathouse.

Humid afternoon. Flexi half day.

Legs feeling grand.

Right Achilles felt a bit niggly for a bit of the run. But cleared up towards the end. Ok afterwards.

Not a good start to the evening when I went to pump tyres I found the front one flat. Stressful considering I wanted to leave the house at 6. I hindsight I had lots of time. Didn't find a reason for the flat, not sure if that's good or bad.

Headwind out the Beaufort.

Plus a tiny bit of cycling when I got there. Back from the finish to registration to collect the chequered flag was one extra bit.

Beaufort Round of the County League

Not a huge group racing tonight. Did a bit of work on the first lap, into the wind wasn't fun. Then on the 2nd lap I somehow decided to have a bit of a laugh, mostly at myself, and attacked at the graveyard, but was caught again by the next junction.

That was 2 laps down of the 6. On the 3rd lap I made sure to get the left corner correct, messed it up a lot the first 2 times, in too fast and some aggressive braking was required to not end up in the ditch on the other side of the road. On the 3rd lap the A3s were catching, but don't think they closed that much over the course of the lap. Some drizzle too at this stage on the western part of the course.

4th lap was interesting. Mainly for the way the A3s caught up with us. On a left hand bend the lead car met a jeep coming the opposite direction, and with a narrow road they both stopped!!! That meant those of us racing behind had to come to a very rapid stop, and then the A3s had to come to an even more rapid stop behind us. I think everyone survived that unscathed.

Then the start of the 5th lap there was a bigger group on the fast descent to the sharp left handed bend, the one I was struggling with the first couple of laps. I was in a position near the front, and heard the clatter of carbon bouncing off the road behind me. Someone had slipped off, message was it was their own fault, so racing kicked off again in earnest.

On the last lap we were told that the main group were 35 seconds behind, but shortly afterwards 2 Killarney lads joined us from the scratch group. They stayed in the group I was in. Made sure to get a good corner at the other left handed junction as struggled with this last year on more than one occassion. Pace was fast coming towards the finish. Wasn't arsed to kill myself in a sprint so just cruised in at the back of the bunch. Happy to have survived another nights racing.

Cycle home with Denis and Leigh as far as Ballydowney. Legs not too tired but hill up home was harder than usual. Weather after getting a bit crap too. And it was a bit late to be cycling, had a rear light though, which was a sensible accessory to bring with me for the non-racing parts of the evening.

Note
(rest day)

Rest definitely helping the legs, starting to feel a bit better. Did some usual stretching and foam rolling, hurting myself. That being said I was kind to myself in the number of sausages I ate yesterday evening!
