Killarney-Glenflesk-Kilgarvan-Kenmare
Club spin

Cloudy start but sun came out around Kilgarvan. Sun was very warm during the tea stop in Kenmare.

Again legs felt a bit tired starting out but got better later in the spin.

Nice group of about 12 out. But plenty of opportunities to hit the front for a turn. The rolling section to Kenmare went by quickly enough and the average speed to Kenmare was about 32kph so a lively enough spin.

Bit fractured starting out on Molls Gap, bridged across to a few riders, then on to Brendan who was leading after the mart. Took a couple of turns with him but then he dropped off. I was waiting then for Leigh to arrive on the scene which he duly did. He then took a few turns and so did I. Good speed going to the top. PR for me with the aid of Leigh, so good effort.

Went back down the hill then to pick up the slowest in the group going up, but he rode very differently on the way down, excellent descender.

Took one last turn at the front from Torc to my turn off.

Legs tired afterwards.

Glenflesk-Barraduff

Got out for an hour after getting home from work! Yes you read that right, me, a public servant working on a Saturday!!!

Humid evening and also some drizzle in the later part of the spin.

Legs feeling tired after the week. But felt a bit better when warmed up. Probably should have done this the opposite direction as had the wind into my face heading back to Killarney.

Note
(rest day)

Tired this evening. Was a long afternoon travelling back from Inishbofin, weather got warmer the further south I got.

Hopefully will get a cycle in tomorrow morning before heading to Tralee for a couple of hours.

Was a good trip out west.

Inishbofin

Out to the west quarter on the roads to start out with and a loop around there. Map not too interesting so left it at home for this section. Lovely and runnable, grassy. Right hamstring felt a bit twingey out here, not sure why, possibly phone I was carrying might have been at nerves. Didn't slow me down too much.

Bit of a transition then to the orienteering map to get a few controls which boyzone had put out yesterday. Kind of close to the coast.

Then home with last bit on the beach.

Happy with how my legs were feeling, not too tired, so managed an alright pace both on the roads and in the terrain.

Probably last run of the trip as thinking of resting tomorrow.

A bit of everything on Inishbofin
Running-Swimming-Orienteering

With Neil. Sun was out and it was a lovely day. Great views towards Croagh Patrick and the Twelve Bens.

Plan was for an easier run but turned into a bit of an epic. Followed the coast for a bit and then hit the other beach. Island off the coast looked reachable over the rocks but it needed some swimming in a couple of sections. Did a lap of the island and then back to the mainland across the rocky causeway. Easier to get back as tide was on the way out.

Followed the coast again before climbing to the high point on this part of the island. Then descended to the Cromwells Fort section to use the o maps we had with us to get a few controls. Quick look at the fort before taking in some more controls on the way back.

Home along the road then.

Tired and hungry when I got back.

***Did an awful amount of damage to my shoulders wearing a singlet today. Serious sunburn!!!

W21E course from IOC 2005. With controls out apart from 4 controls.

Started fast and was getting the controls fine. Hit the top of the feature for 7 but knew that boyzone had not put the control in the right spot, so saw it behind me. Went a bit too far left on 9 and was hesitant just before 10. Obvious boulder though.

Ended up going over the top of the hill to 12. Was originally going to go a bit left of the last hill.

Turns out I didn't get 14, hit a similar feature below it, no control for this one though so didn't know I was wrong until after.

Rest of the course was fine.

Collected the controls we used this morning. Yes, parts of the map are definitely dodgy. Think I was mostly clean.

Moving alright I felt for a 2nd session, and having to carry the canes. Awkward running with them as they were in a rucksack and banging off my head!

Came home cross country too, handy.

Note

Nearly forgot to do a plan for the week! Not that difficult this week to plan. When on Inishbofin options are limited to mainly class orienteering and some running. Terrain is so runnable.

I am missing Kev not being here. I brought Con Air with me. No fun watching it on my own.

Monday - Orieneering
Tuesday - Running & Orienteering
Wednesday - more of the same
Thursday - more of the same
Friday - morning session, then going home
Saturday - bike/running (depends on the legs)
Sunday - bike

Inishbofin (East End)

Ran a course from 2006 Irish 3 Day with boyzone, navigating every second control.

Nice running.

I stopped short early for 11, should have done better for it. Then next couple of controls the map was a bit sketchy.

Fun afternoon of running.

Time includes the jog from the house to the start. Pace picked up when Neil and Killian started going cross country.
