Trails/Road warm up/down 10:39 [3] 1.82 km (5:52 / km) +2m 5:50 / km
shoes: Inov X-Talon (Blue)

Warm up with my chauffeur for today, robrunner. Legs alright warming up. Lots of tape on left ankle, hopefully it'll work.

Orienteering race 50:57 [4] **** 7.78 km (6:33 / km) +14m 6:30 / km

Banna

Overall my orienteering today was alright. No mistakes as such, just a few hesitations.

Main problem for me today was a physical one. Knew it wasn't going to be a good day on the way to the 1st control, didn't feel great. Think main issue was a lack of confidence in my ankle, which worked out as slowing my legs down. I didn't do too much damage to it running, just a couple of tweaks, but never really felt like I was running fast. There were times I knew I could have run faster on the course but didn't have the trust in my ankle to do it.

Probably spent too long looking for the missing control too.

Opposite direction to warm up, again with robrunner. Legs in gentle not feeling too bad apart from left ankle which was sore. Don't think I did any additional damage. Sore later on too and ice pack out.

Road warm up/down 20:37 [2] 3.71 km (5:33 / km) +24m 5:22 / km
shoes: Brooks Ghost 9

Not a great run down, took a while for left calf to warm up, and left ankle not in great shape either, sore when uneven. Damp run down the hill too. Did some stretching of the calves before the start.

Road tempo 18:14 [5] 4.87 km (3:45 / km) +41m 3:36 / km

parkrun

Had a plan, to run sub 18. Set virtual partner on the watch to run 3.37 min/km. Went ok-ish for 1st km but backwards after that. Did ok I suppose for the finish.

3.40
3.44
3.48
3.49
3.13 (3.40 pace)

So again another disappointing run in my opinion. Need more consistent speed and possibly company. I did feel like that my legs were tired though. Plan still is to do that 5k race next weekend but not expecting anything from it.

At least I was able to run though, and no issues afterwards.

Home from.

Bit sore in left ankle/achilles, not worried, down to compensating for ankle I feel.

Was a very slow warm down. BS very low when I got home. Knew it. Not sure whether this affected parkrun, didn't feel like it, but happened last time too.

Note
(rest day)

After doubling up yesterday I'm in a bit of discomfort today, not from the training but from going over on my ankle. It's sore but not swollen. Will stick to the plan for running fast tomorrow and will help that by taping ankle before running. Should help stabilise it and reduce compensation affects on other muscles.

Wasn't too bad weather wise apart from a nasty shower of drizzle leaving Barraduff. Cooled me down when I didn't need it. Also windy, headwind early on, leaving Glenflesk, and then into the drizzle leaving Barraduff. But would have had a tailwind at times too.

Felt better once warmed up. Was thinking it was a bad idea starting out.

Will see how 2nd session on my feet later works out.

Quest run from car park beyond Torc

Bad start, went over on left ankle leaving the car park, oops. Managed the run mostly ok but don't think it helped calves. They behaved themselves ok too.

Legs alright after earlier. Tough start up the waterfall but other hills I found easier.

Happy with the run. Turned out to be an alright afternoon too, some blue skies.

Cycling 1:06:32 [3] 31.95 km (2:05 / km) +366m 1:58 / km
shoes: Spiuk ZS11

Small bit damp up higher but mainly dry. Felt a bit cold coming home. Didn't help that by stopping after Derrycunnihy Church to check on rear break, not as tight as the front one. Think I need to get it looked at, cable probably needs to be tightened.

Overall I know this isn't going to be a good spin as not been on the bike enough, and particularly uphill. Legs not feeling tired though. Time for the climb not great but probably could have given more. Headwind too I reckon on the way up.

Decided to take tomorrow off work, making an even longer weekend out if it. So to celebrate that i'm thinking of cycling & running tomorrow, then rest on Friday.

Golf Course & Knockreer

Lovely evening for a run. Felt like there was a headwind heading out along the Fossa Way but not too strong.

Legs behaving themselves it seems after the weekend including improvement in left calf. Will keep on working on it.

First run in the new running shoes after wearing them at circuits last week. No complaints.

Pace was high enough I felt but was ok with it. Bit tired at the top of the hill. Then coming back onto the river I saw 2 lads running up along it. Thought I recognised them and was going to wait but decided to keep on going. Met them coming back in the gate at the bridge, Seamus and Tony.

Then back up to speed for the final km and a bit home.

Note

Tired this morning but not too sore.

Monday - Cycling (was thinking turbo but weather could be good)
Tuesday - Running (same run as last couple of weeks)
Wednesday - Bike
Thursday - Running
Friday - Bike (likely to be indoors)
Saturday - Running (parkrun, definitely need to run sub 18 for this)
Sunday - Orienteering (Banna)

* Did some comparing of my run yesterday to that on Day 3 of the Leinster 3-day. Minutes per km about 1 min faster yesterday but would still have been behind the speed of Conor and Will that day it seems. I'll take it as progress.

Cycling 1:04:12 [3] 33.31 km (1:56 / km) +169m 1:53 / km
shoes: Spiuk ZS11

Weather was nicer this morning when I was out in the car for a bit of a work spin. But still decided to hit the road since it's been a while since I was outside on the bike. Not that cold.

Wasn't feeling great leaving work, feeling tired and head a bit sore, but reckoned some training would help. It did.

Legs were a bit tired early on and there was a bit of a headwind out to Beaufort. Had the advantage of that coming home.

Nearing Fossa on the way back in I could hear some sort of machine behind me, but only slowly catching. It came past just at the start of the cycling lane through Fossa, it was a JCB. Had made my mind up before it passed me that whatever came by I would try and tuck in behind it. Just for the sake of it.

So I used the cycling lane to give it room and then I moved out behind it. Followed it all the way in to Ballydowney. Bit of dirt and stuff coming off it at times, and didn't have a lot of time to spot a few holes. Got a PR for the section from Fossa to Lackabane! No cars got a chance either to pass us out on the way in, they can't have been impressed to be stuck behind a JCB and a bike. Then was a calmer spin home.

Legs feeling the better for the workout. Might actually end up having to rest tomorrow, hopefully not, depends on what time meeting finishes up at that hopefully i'll only be spectating at.
