Scarr - Leinster League

Plan was to run hard, if possible in this terrain. And this wasn't helped when I saw the registration form at the start, courses close at 8.30pm!!!

Pretty happy with how I ran. Only real mistakes were the route I took between 20 and 21, and also the finish. Think my route to 25 wasn't great either, ended up too high. Not ideal to 14, hit the ride too far south, but had followed a ride to get in.

Physical start in some forest with a control pick, no issues, then uphill to 6 was tough, and the following few controls were in even more physical forest.

Had a look at the rest of the course after leaving 9, starting the trek to 10. The hill actually had some runnable ish bits. Only had 3 controls on top before dropping back down.

14 was ok, other route to follow the yellow ride may have been better, but took the safer option. 15-17 were in a felled area, not difficult, before running through the start again.

18 was in an area I always seem to struggle in so focused on getting a good attackpoint. After climbing the hill the control was where I expected it to be:-)

Tough getting to 19 and 20.

To 21 I wanted to hit the end of the track, but missed it low. Then hit the stream, thought I was higher up but wasn't, so then went straight through the forest coming out on the road near 21.

Then up the road before cutting in next to the ride for 22. Was going to go all the way around to 23 on the track but cut across. 24 was fine. And then to 25 I hit the stream too far up, getting caught in some heavy going getting there.

26 was ok. And then hit the track and ran down the hill, thought the area with banks around it was where registration was, it wasn't, so had to run back up to punch the finish.

Felt tired going towards 25 but happy enough with my run today.

If I hadn't been there today an even older vet would have won another Leinster League event. Irritates me that this happens!

It was time to re-stock, 10 boxes of leukotape ordered.

Time Trial

Checked when I last ran this before I started while chatting with Eoin, October 2009. And beat that time today, so happy enough I think.

Knew Eoin was the man to beat today, and had him starting 1 minute after me, did think he'd catch me but managed to stay ahead. Had Kev in front of me so used him as a target to gauge how I was doing. Reckoned we were level after lap 1, but started to gain over the later laps.

The muddy slope was tough, hard to get traction. 3rd time up it was probably my slowest, got distracted by hearing Zach falling behind me.

1.43 1.33 2.26 (5.42 lap)
1.56 1.33 2.33 (6.02 lap)
2.01 1.35 2.36 (6.12 lap)
2.01 1.34 2.37 (6.12 lap)

So a consistent middle split on the course and last 2 laps overall were the same time, positives in that.

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Was organised well. Having people running on the course at the same time helped mentally. Targets to try and catch and/or stay ahead of.

UCD

3 excellent courses planned by Niall Mac.

Pissed off with how I ran, the planner had added in numerous uncrossable walls. Some I saw but others I didn't. Definite DSQ on courses 2 and 3. So not happy with that. On Course 3 my main crossing of an uncrossable actually was slower than avoiding it would have been.

Ran sprint recently enough in Armagh, but need to be doing it more often to race seriously. Legs tired by the end.

Time includes warm-up and warm-down. Took in Richview on the warm-down. The rugby pitch is now a car-park!!!

Good fun, and body not as bad afterwards than previous weeks. 6th session and i've done 3! But knew that would be the case.

Turbo Trainer 48:33 [2]

Avg Cadence = 89rpm

Bit stop/start at the beginning, keeping an eye on Elvis who had the option of going outside but was giving me the eyes from the utility room. He likes his toy mice, and he's been given the opportunity to go catch real ones!

Barcelona!!!

Golf Course and Knockreer

Same as last couple of weeks. Bit damp this evening though. Left calf a bit tender starting off but not an issue for the run.

Felt comfortable enough at this pace for most of it, a few times I felt a bit under pressure.

Legs get a break from running now for a couple of days.

Note

And now the plan for this week. Been considering doing longer plans but not just yet.

Monday - Running (with brother-in-law! Showing him Quest Killarney March running route)
Tuesday - Running
Wednesday - Turbo Trainer
Thursday - Circuits
Friday - Turbo Trainer (could change depending on weekend)
Saturday - Running (in theory twice)
Sunday - Orienteering (in theory)
5 PM

Trails 1:00:12 [1] 7.63 km (7:53 / km) +286m 6:39 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Black (2015)

Torc

With Brian and a friend of his from the gym, she was much faster than he was! Hills weren't his friend, and this route isn't friendly if you don't like hills. A tough enough little route for the middle of a multi-sport race.

Very easy run for me showing them the route for the race on St Patricks Weekend.

Calf not fantastic still, but was able for this, will give it more of a work-out tomorrow.
