Grass race 26:38 [5] 7.08 km (3:46 / km) +136m 3:26 / km
shoes: Inov X-Talon (Blue)

National Masters Cross Country 2017
WIT

Thought I might have been in ok shape, far from it.

I started fast enough, attacked the hill passing people, then at the bottom on the start of the 4 long laps it just turned into a procession of people passing me.

It's a tough course, you are either gradually going uphill, steep downhill, with the flat part at the bottom mucky. Chose to wear Inov8s rather than spikes, wanted more comfort for the feet, think it worked ok.

I haven't 'raced' in a long long time, and that showed today. Lots of things to work on. I didn't approach this race to take it seriously, which might not have helped, but then I wasn't stressing about performance either.

My start was probably too fast, the BITTER cold didn't help my lungs, and later in the race my legs weren't there.

Only positive is that calf survived. But big toe sore afterwards, so not sure what's going on there.

Pissed off with how I ran afterwards. A reality check.

Grass warm up/down 11:47 [2] 1.62 km (7:17 / km) +29m 6:42 / km
shoes: Inov X-Talon (Blue)

Tired. Legs able to move which is a good sign. Just did 1 lap in reverse and finished back at the car.

Saturday morning with KCC

Easy pace this morning. 5 out on the bikes but a couple off the pace. Didn't feel great on the way in but was better once warmed up.

Cold cold morning. Nice though apart from downhill when the cold hurt more.

Didn't push too hard either. Dropped back a few times to help the lads, but in the end they dropped off nearing Killarney.

Not too worried about the pace, got to race tomorrow. So taking the benefits from sitting in the saddle. Body still suffering after Thursday.

Note
(rest day)

Body, in particular upper body sore, very sore today, after last night. So wasn't too pushed to get on the bike when I got home.

Thursday Feb 9, 2017 #

5 PM

Circuits 53:48 [3]

3 Circuits with 8 stations

With the usual core work in between the 1st and 2nd circuits. My core got a shock.

Expect shoulders to be sore tomorrow.

Calf not great warming up but felt fine towards the end. Not sure big toe liked 1 of the jumping exercises either.

Meh

Avg Cadence = 88rpm

Didn't go as planned, issues getting something to watch sorted, lost too much time messing around with that. Wasn't really in the mood after that, and a bit on the tired side didn't help. Excuses.

At least car passed NCT later!

Golf Course & Knockreer

Regretting signing up (I think) for cross country on Sunday. Still not happy with left calf. To be fair it was actually alright running but not the most comfortable afterwards. Spending time using the foam roller. Should have spent more time stretching/foam rolling last night, would have helped pass the hours and hours that the IOA telemeeting lasted for!

Nice evening for a run.

Game of Thrones S06 E02

Legs felt very tired starting out, feeling the affects of yesterday. Was concerned that it wouldn't be a fun spin as a result. But once warmed up they felt better.

Managed to get through. Interesting episode.
