Happy New Year

Late enough out last night and then drove up to Boyzone's place after lunch. Was tired driving!

Will analyse 2016 next week.

parkrun

Another good morning for running, not too cold, and only noticed the wind that I felt on the warm down on the final stretch past the school house.

Started a few runners back but moved forward after turning around the tree. One lad out front so settled on his shoulder. Pulled slightly ahead on the 1st uphill but he speeded up on the descent.

Did the 1st lap with the lad but gapped him the 2nd time up the hill and increased it over the rest of the run. Started to focus more on lapping Mary when on my own. But only started passing runners on their 1st lap on the last part of the lap, just saw Mary after starting her 2nd lap as I crested the small hill before the junction.

Better pacing this morning than last week. Main difference being a much lower average HR, 6bpm lower today, and felt better for it.

Calves tight afterwards, very tight, foam roller when I got home.

Watch didn't last all the way home.
Jogged back to give Mary some encouragement.

Sun out today but windy. Made life difficult at times. Average temperature according to the Garmin was 14 degrees, scary to think it's that warm this time of the year.

Got the average just over 30 so not doing too bad. Was feeling a small bit tired this morning, that nice tired feeling in your legs when you wake up. Didn't have much trouble cycling, but the gradual pull out of Barraduff wasn't fun. Knew once that was over it would be a straightforward spin home.

Comparing the loop element on Strava this spin would be a March/April effort, so if I could get more cycling done then i'd be better on the bike earlier in year. That I think will be a goal for the first few months of the year.

Killarney-Kissanes-Kilgobnet-Beaufort-Killarney

Met Richard Maes on my way into town, he's living on Mangerton Road now. He was meeting some of the serious racers at Lidl too, they were going long, but I was going for the more sociable, handy, spin.

7 of us on the shorter spin. No problems despite the lack of road cycling. Although the last bit home from town on my own I was starting to feel it.

Not the same sunshine as yesterday, more cloud, felt very dark when I left home at 8.40. But dry and no real wind to speak of. So not a bad day to be on the bike.

Must try and do more cycling, be in better shape earlier in the year. Will depend on the running.

Muckross with ColmM

Essentially a lap of Muckross Lake with a couple of sightseeing excursions from the normal route.

Stunning day for it, blue skies.

Pace was fine for me, and legs only felt tired after the last stop at Dundag, nearly home then though. Found the hill up to the top of Torc waterfall tough, but good training.

Very enjoyable run overall.

Christmas Fun Event - Ballincollig

Hit every control easy enough, route was good too for the score, how to score points in this score I didn't do so well. No punching today, it was picture memory, which without knowing the results I did not do very well at remembering. Probably got a few right.

Left quad felt a bit tight around the pitches at the western end, but no issues other than that. Wasn't running too hard.
