Beaufort-Faha-Country Club-Rockfield-Ballyhar

Wasn't sure how today would pan out. Had a serious bout of nausea overnight, didn't actually get sick, but was very close to it. Lasted around 10-15 minutes. Felt grand going to bed and felt fine getting out of bed, so no explanation at the moment.

Thought legs might be a bit on the tired side today after the last few days, but once warmed up the legs were feeling really good. Moving very fast it felt, which was a nice feeling to have.

Planned on around a 40km spin, wasn't sure where I was going to get the distance from but getting to Faha via Beaufort was the initial idea, and after that I winged things. Gave the hill up from Beaufort Bridge a go, and then kept pushing towards Faha. Tough effort.

So then it was on to roads I don't think i'd cycled before, well not recently anyways, and definitely never did the Rockfield Section, that was tough. Wrong gear on the initial ramp and after that it was a long drag. Descent at the end was fun. Knew after that i'd' a couple of 'bumps' to get over, with the one up from the railway crossing the hardest. After that it was a straightforward enough spin home.

Muckross Lake

Considered parkrun this morning after dropping the ultra running legend that is robrunner into his bus to get him to the start his race, but decided that kms are more important than speed at the moment.

Weather cleared just in time for my run too so that was an added bonus, had expected to get wet based on how things were earlier.

Legs are still behaving themselves, no real issues overall.

Decided to give the KOM up from the lake across the road a bit of a bash, didn't work out in the end, got delayed by a car crossing the road, but still would have been a few seconds off. No harm in an uphill pick-up though.

Then home for lunch, and out to support robrunner on his superb effort from Sneem to Killarney.

Around the Reeks
Glencar-Ballaghbeama-Molls Gap

Identified this route a while ago and this afternoon was the perfect opportunity to give it a go, flexi half-day from work, so needed something to do. Cycling.

First hour I found tough, into a headwind, and body didn't feel at the races. But once over the climbing to Lough Accoose, and the descent to the Climbers Inn, with an energy boost, started to feel better. Actually was happy with how I was moving up Ballaghbeama Gap, but struggle to match the pace of the sheep running up the road in front of me, they're good hill runners.

Ballaghbeama is definitely easier from this side. And the descent was nice too, road surface is really good.

Then came the long drag up to Molls Gap. Benefitted from the tail wind, but with tiring legs it was hard work.

Descent went well though from Molls Gap to home, had the energy for it. Got slowed by a French bus from Ladies View down. And nearly ended up in the back of a mini-bus who was behind the French bus.

Tougher spin than going around Mangerton. But better to be on the bike than in work!

Breaking Bad S02E07

Damp evening and didn't fancy going outdoors to get soaked 2 days this week. Think i'm suffering a small bit from the affects of getting wet on Tuesday.

This session would be an easier one too, but good one planned for my half day tomorrow afternoon.

Upper Torc

Ran up from the carpark, then back to it, and to finish a loop to the bottom of the waterfall and back up. GPS is looking very wrong for this so only thing to be trusted for this is the time. On initial viewing the climb amount just didn't feel right.

Legs still behaving themselves but right foot a bit sore afterwards. Physio organised for Monday so will keep going until then.

End of the run wasn't easy, BS went low so affected the climb.

UCC course not starting tomorrow now, in October, so some bonus training to get done. Plan will change a lot for later in the week.

Thought it would only be drizzle and wouldn't last long. I was very very wrong. Got very very wet. Still sort of enjoyed myself!

Legs tired. Had a headwind coming home so that made life more interesting, hardest part probably the hill home, but parts of Muckross Road were harder than usual. But felt good around Beaufort on the hills.

Note

Might change this later but this plan is based on what I think is happening this week. If UCC were better at administration I might actually have an idea what i'm doing this week. In theory i'm starting a HDip in GIS on Thursday in UCC, 3 days a month for 10 months, usually first weekend of the month.

Monday - Running
Tuesday - Cycling
Wednesday - Running
Thursday - Rest (starting back in UCC)
Friday - Running (short & easy with robrunner)
Saturday - Running, when I get back from UCC, or maybe somewhere different on the way back
Sunday - Cycling

Legs were probably less tired this week than last, but they were more tired yesterday evening than they would have been last week. Right hamstring a small bit of an issue. Sore still after the cramp yesterday, didn't bother me running though.

Tried to focus on running form, trying to avoid ruining another sock, and avoided that. Some soreness still afterwards on my feet, left toes.

Running pace was comfortable for this so not doing too badly at the moment. But I can't remember when I ran more than 10km last. Probably in Sweden in June, but not since then. Need to up the distance if i'm to survive the weeks ahead.
