Killarney-Glenflesk-Kilgarvan-Kenmare

Long spin this morning solo. Weather was cloudy but no chance of rain. Thought it looked calm out the window before I left but was a headwind it felt all the way to Kilgarvan! Could see the turbines were facing south and the NRA weather/traffic monitor just after glenflesk all showed that I was into the wind.

Legs felt grand today, thought they felt tired early on but got into it the further I went. After 20km thought breakfast was going to cause trouble, literally ate it before I started cycling, but stayed down.

Traffic was slow through Kenmare, bus moving very slowly. Also looked like Kenmare was preparing for its fair which is on around now. Got through and started the climb I thought well. Spotted a bike in front of me so that spurred me on. Went by him easy enough and no more bikes for the rest of the climb to chase. Happy with the effort.

Got home from Molls Gap at a decent enough pace too. So overall a decent spin.

Note
(rest day)

Didn't train today but felt like I did.
Spent a long time wandering around the shops in Cork carrying some bags too, so found that tough going. I'm not conditioned for that sort of exercise.

Was glad to get home!

And then decided that the grass needed cutting, so more walking.

Avg Cadence = 85rpm

Did 10 minutes and checked resistance, seemed to be higher than the number on the dial. Moved it down and back again and when I got back on pedalling was much easier!

Was struggling up until then, so last session was probably done at a similar difficulty.

Watched a variety of Olympic sports. Been flicking a lot.

Weather turned rubbish this afternoon so didn't fancy a run.

Not feeling as tired today, early night last night. So with weather forecast not fantastic for tomorrow evening I decided to do something this evening.

Headwind on the way out but didn't find it too difficult, and benefitted then on the way home.

Right hamstring back feeling funny. Either as a result of running on Monday followed by bike or Tuesday, or a less likely reason is that as a result of the bike improvement work recently, the handlebars are now lower by a couple of mm. Seat position hasn't changed though.

Not having much of an affect though.

Some stupid people out and about in Killarney this evening, all in the space of a few hundred metres. Started with typical jeep not looking properly when exiting into traffic. This was followed shortly after by a fat man crossing the road with some other lad, other lad got onto the path and this chap started walking next to him on the road between the cars and the footpath. So had to brake again here. But the best one was saved until last. There is a very short section of a cycle lane between Ross Road and Countess Road, which is on the road rather than the path. Wide enough for 1 bike. I was in the cycling lane and a cyclist was cycling against me on the wrong side of the road. Chap seemed completely oblivious to what he was doing. What resulted was essentially a game of chicken which thankfully I won!!!

So once I survived those incidents unscathed the rest of the spin was easy enough.

Note
(rest day)

Really needed to do nothing today. Body is not happy. Legs are grand, but the rest of me isn't. A healthy dose of Olympics when I got home and bed early.

Tiernaboul-Anablaha-Kilsarcon

Just Mike out this evening for Hilly Tuesday's. Was kinda regretting going cycling this evening, or more thinking about the damage it would do. Body is starting to give out a lot, need to sleep. Legs aren't tired but the head is. Got through this fine though, but was feeling it when I got home. Didn't mess about too much afterwards, only watched a small bit of Olympics before bed.

Evening wasn't like Summer, definitely Autumn. Wind blowing and felt cold.

Was able to manage the many hills we went up alright, so was good training. Some stretches of road are rough, not enjoyable.

Think i'll have to consider a few days rest now. The signs (cold sore) are there that I need it.

Will keep with the recent plan of mainly cycling with a couple of runs thrown in to remind the legs of what running is like to do. Thought there was a race this Sunday but it's the following week, so will need a plan for the weekend.

Knockreer Demesne

Different direction of a run this evening. Decided against going to the golf course as with it being fine you kinda have to keep your eyes open for flying golf balls.

Legs mostly behaved themselves, could feel the calves a bit, but didn't get any worse during the run. Was hoping that sock wouldn't have a hole in it this week and it didn't, but did look like the toe had worn through a bit. So something not right for that to happen.

Not a bad evening for a run, some serious showers early in the morning, but day brightened up nicely.
