Ross Castle - Blue (no Brown)

Made it there. Tired after being out late last night so minimum time between breakfast and running, went cornflakes rather than porridge due as felt porridge would need time to digest.

Felt ok running. Also skipped warm-up and warm-down. Start window shortened due to the match and they said controls were being collected at 12.

Slower splits to 1 and 17. Surprised by 1, the 2 fellas faster must have gone straight, only way I could have been beaten to this control as ran it ok I felt. I wouldn't have considered straight as thought that area would be impossible to get through. And 17 I just didn't see, kite hidden behind a tree stump, and the re-entrant where the control was supposed to be wasn't obvious, contours suspect.

Was tough getting out of 2, eventually got out. Cut in too soon for 5. Got confused where I was on the track going to 11, just lost where I was on the map, slight wrong turn. Should have stayed low approaching 11 too. 15 was a bit odd, was too low for it but reckon map is suspect.

18 was definitely a miss, overshot it slightly as wasn't paying attention where I was. Then had trouble locating the control. Went too far for 18 too but knew what i'd done. Route to 21 would have been better coming back out to the track but stayed left of the pond, didn't have this section of the map for my route either, they'd run out of blue courses so was on an all controls map. Then missed the control, saw the crag, very obvious, but didn't see it.

Then the last few controls to home. Rough on the way into 22, stayed low to avoid climb, and also getting into 27.

Run was longer than I thought it would take me, but legs were fine, didn't really push at all.

Then was in to Mary's for the rugby which was depressing.

Jog down to Muckross House for parkrun. Happy with how legs were feeling, Achilles ok warming up. Needed this run to settle breakfast, could feel it sitting in my stomach on the way down.

Killarney parkrun

Nice morning for it, good conditions again. These runs are turning out to be good pace practice since I've not had the pleasure of company while running parkruns, so me against my legs and watch.

Lowered the pace to 3.33 min/km. wasn't sure how the body was feeling, bit flat last week but better today.

Started fast and had a 6 second lead on my watch before the hill. Wasn't too bothered as could use those seconds later. Happy with how I ran today as don't think I fell behind the virtual partner, was level with on a few checks.

Suppose 3rd km was behind the pace but 1st and last were ahead. Avg pace for short 5th km was 3.28. So finished strongly.

1. 3.30
2. 3.33
3. 3.35
4. 3.33
5. 3.05

At the start heading towards the schoolhouse there were 3 animals by the barrier, 3 loose dogs? No, it was the goats out and about again. They hopped up on the wall when I went by.

Road warm up/down 27:01 [2] 4.9 km (5:31 / km) +106m 4:58 / km
ahr:145 max:159 shoes: Adidas Supernova (2015)

Offered to collect the route signs. 1st sign was gone when I got to it so was chasing the sign collector! Caught up with them at the end of the lap, slow jog from me. Not worried as wanted to get some more km in the legs, mo real reason though.

Legs definitely tired by the time I got home but not sore.

Last evening cycle of 2015 I suspect, or maybe last cycle outdoors of 2015 unless I get out on a weekend or possibly bank holiday Monday.

Think i'd a tailwind some of the way into town. Then had to avoid knocking down a pedestrian, in his own little world strolling across the road.

What is it with the road over to Dunloe from Fossa, feels like I make no progress. Then got distracted by a helicopter at the Dunloe Castle Hotel. It was in a field, rescue chopper, but don't think it was rescuing, loads of mountain rescue around the last few days for some conference and based on who was around I reckon the chopper was associated with them.

Getting home went fine, no headwind that I noticed too much.

Circuits 38:00 [3]
ahr:132 max:165 slept:7.0 shoes: Adidas Supernova (2015)

11 stations in the circuits, and 2 rounds, was mostly ok, but the upperbody stuff was harder, really to need to grow some arms.

No shuttle runs which was good for my ankle. On the 2nd circuit skipping was replaced by burpees around half way through, so made it a bit tougher.

Some tough ab work in between and after the circuits, stomach was very very sore. Added on some time as missed the first sit-up session on the watch.

Getting better at recovering from these sessions.

Bit duller this evening, but decent runnning conditions.

Achilles took a few minutes to warm up but ok before it was warmed up. Happy with how legs were feeling.

Felt comfortable enough on the flatter sections and got over the rough track home a bit better than last week. Will have to go charge my head torch for the coming weeks.

Ordered new running shoes this morning, same model as what i'm currently running in, different colour though. Nearly got tempted by red ones from the Autumn/Winter collection but went with a cheaper running shoe from last season, Spring/Summer.

ahr:147 max:160 slept:7.5 shoes: Adidas Supernova (2015)

Usual loop on a beautiful evening, low sun though so blinding at times.

Tested the parkrun route options by the hill to see which one is longer.
- inside the fence on the path is 0.28km
- outside the fence on the road is 0.27km
- by the boathouse is 0.39km
So as expected not much of a difference.

Legs feeling ok this evening, achilles a small bit sore warming up.

More clearing work done around Dundag, can now see between the path and the road. A lot of rhodo gone i'd say from a small area, plenty more to go.

A few deer in the field by Torc, stag was making a bit of noise, rutting season definitely in progress.

slept:7.0

Start of another week. Been formulating a rough plan for what weeks will be like up until Christmas, running in some form at the weekends, running in midweek with bike on Mondays and Fridays. Need to start getting some track work into the mix too. Might consider a track session tomorrow week.

Monday - Bike
Tuesday - Running
Wednesday - Running
Thursday - Circuits
Friday - Bike
Saturday - Running (parkrun)
Sunday - Orienteering (Ross Castle)

Legs were feeling good last night after the longish running yesterday morning, more lack of pain was what I was happy about. Starting to feel a bit more positive about the legs.

Game of Thrones S05E01

Winter is coming, and me starting on Game of Thrones is certainly proof of that.

Legs were more tired than I thought, quads in particular. But not that bad.

Took a few more minutes to get going than planned, had to copy over series from computer to the media player.
