Calves need to be minded and I think i'll look at more physio next week. Had been thinking of doing the Feet First 5k on Saturday as a warm-up for the cross country the following week but think that might be a bad idea calf wise. Will monitor the situation later in the week.

Monday - Running
Tuesday - Turbo Trainer
Wednesday - Running
Thursday - Turbo Trainer
Friday - Rest or Running
Saturday - Running
Sunday - Running

Know where i'll run Monday and Wednesday, but next weekend i'm not sure. I managed to come up with an interesting run this weekend so i'm sure something else will come to mind.
5 PM

Trails 47:46 [3] 10.1 km (4:44 / km) +231m 4:15 / km
ahr:151 max:173 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 17-Green

Positives: Calves survived & mp3 player lasted 35 minutes
Negatives: Weather was shite

So stuck to the plan despite the mingin weather, miserable crap, heavy drizzle that'd soak ya, and did. Not pleasant. Coming back past Upper Torc car park I started to wonder how many drops of rain i'd see on the run, lots i'd imagine.

Threw on the skins again but they didn't stay up too well. Have 2xu type aswell but didn't like them when I went through my wearing calve sleeves phase a few years ago.

Happy to survive the run relatively pain free, some left ankle issues on the way back, lost confidence in it for a couple of minutes due to going over on it a couple of times in succession, but got over that and was able to run the rest of the way home without issue.

slept:8.0 (rest day)

Ended up not training today or doing any excercise. Wasn't part of the plan but not too worried about it either. Legs didn't get a break after the race last Sunday and my calves are struggling at the moment, so no harm done.

Chilly morning but was nice and sunny.

National Park around Galweys Bridge & Ladies View

Planned this route and executed it alright. Using map (Harvey's) and course I uploaded to my watch. Used the route function on Strava to create a tcx file which I imported as a course to my Forerunner 410. It worked.

Hard to describe the route, GPS is the way to see where I went. Some Kerry Way to start and finish, with mountain and marsh in between.

Wasn't sure about actually running, had debated the road bike today as an option. But felt i'd chance the run i'd planned. Rooted out my skins for my calves and wore them. Overall they did alright for the run. Can't say I felt them too much. Didn't run too fast at any stage on purpose but HR doesn't reflect that. Was just fighting for a lot of the time.

On the first climb I didn't feel great, lungs not liking it. Not sure why, was steepish so wasn't moving too fast. Got to the top and then had a bit of tough marsh running, but in hindsight this was easy compared to what was to come.

Off the top hill and down through the forest it was very rough, not easy. Moving slowly as it was steep and also slippy. Got out to the track and took a gel there, needed it. Then along the road to Ladies View.

Having the course function in use it displayed the distance to the end of the course so I knew how far downhill it was to the Kerry Way. Took a while to get there though. Really tough marshes and hidden streams to get over. Not easy. High grass so probably good for leg strength. The bits in the woodland were nicer but open areas not easy.

Eventually hit the small lake and went around it as planned. From there the last couple of hundred metres were easy to the track. Then back uphill to finish. Uphill finish not idea but at least I could see where my feet were going.

Really enjoyed this run and wasn't worried about the lack of speed. Fun run to do. Can't say i'd do this route again due to the lack of runnability but will investigate other options.

Avg Cadence = 90rpm

Went on the bike when I got home, just to get something done. 2 episodes of My Name is Earl. Time didn't go by too badly so getting used to the turbo this winter.

Half thinking of bike in the morning, but will see, holding out for a run but bike might be an alternative.

Muckross

2 parts to the run:
Part 1 - 18.46
Part 2 - 19.30

Reason i've split the run is that I was feeling very positive for the first part and very negative for the 2nd part.

Positive as did some planning for an interesting run on Saturday, some route planning done earlier and was looking forward to. Was feeling grand running, some soreness in the calves but generally was feeling ok.

BUT, just as I got to Torc Waterfall the left calf started to hurt. Stopped and tried to stretch it for a bit, didn't really work as couldn't find a stretch to work. Started back running at a slightly slower pace. Furthest point from the car, typical, so just went for the straighest route back. Very negative thoughts on the way back, pissed off with the calf.

Turbo Trainer 51:46 [2]
ahr:130 max:148

Avg Cadence = 91rpm

Pleased again with this week's GOT S4E5 effort with a similar rpm to last week. Need to keep this level and try and increase it in the coming weeks.

Time went by reasonably quickly.

Chose to not do the interval session. Legs wouldn't be able to handle it. So will run tomorrow instead and then go on the turbo again on Friday. No choice really but to switch things around.

Muckross

Decided to wear Inov8s this evening in anticipation of muddy tracks, BAD DECISION. As it turns out they were fine, recent weather had dried them a bit, and then to compound matters my torch battery died so had to adjust my route home.

Torch just stopped on the descent from the high point so switched it back on again, died, so then tried the lower setting and that stayed on until the Old Kenmare Road. Decided to turn around then and take the road home. Fished back-up torch out of the pocket, doesn't really shed much light on things. Headed down the road from the Upper Torc Car Park. Was thinking of going all the way around on the Main Road but with my running gear this evening, including tights, all black, decided to take a short cut in along the low track coming out on my side of Blue Pool. Did have a reflective arm band that also flashes.

Tried the torch after coming off the road and it lasted a minute. Track was grand to run on but not much light. Think I upped the pace on the climb home.

Calves were a bit sore running, so really undecided on what to do training wise tomorrow. Legs also felt a bit tired. Option would be to turbo tomorrow, run Thursday and also turbo Friday. Turbo would at least allow some recovery time. Will pack gear for a track session and decide at some stage.
