Middle day of my 3 day rest. The wedding of Mushy_Pea and Tisteln in Culcreuch Castle. Day was good and so was the wedding, warm work doing some of the ceilĂ dancing.

slept:5.0 (rest day)

Very bad nights sleep. Not sure of the cause but tea + late cycling might have had something to do with it. Also very humid. So started the day tired.

Headed to Glasgow in the morning and did some touring around the Clyde and Loch Lomond for the afternoon. Hot Hot Hot. Really warm day. Was a good flight as with the clear skies had very good views for the trip.

Spin into Killarney for club spin. Warm evening. Some very grey and dark looking clouds to the west. Rainfall radar on the weather forecast showed some very heavy showers on the border so hopefully they stay away this evening.

Killarney-Glencar-Killorglin-Killarney

Only 5 lads out this evening. Much more comfortable speed to start off with and much less traffic to deal with than last week. Eased off a bit after Fossa as one of the lads took a pit stop, but not that much. Then it was on towards Glencar direction. Pace was good, consistent, with even turns on the front, and that's reflected on Strava.

Lads took the descent a bit handy to start with towards Killorglin so I pushed it on a bit, "use the hill", as Danny would say. So tried to, not pushing as much as the last time down here, but still a decent pace. Then into Killorglin and turned for home. Good pace all the way back with 4 of us doing the work until Beaufort and then 3 from Beaufort Bridge to Killarney. Was tough on the front, took an effort when there. Felt the air was hard to get into my lungs, too hot I think. And could feel the burn in my legs.

Wasn't bothered about pushing the legs to the limit as they are looking forward to their 3 days rest over the weekend. So good reason to push when I could, no point holding back.

Pace ramped up even more after Beaufort with Conor doing damage. Dropped 1 here. Then the 3 of us kept together with myself and Conor doing the most work.

Didn't contest the sprint with Conor, had my work done for the evening. Kept pushing all the way home so pleased with the average of 33.3kph. Knew it was going to be a decent speed on the road.

There were some lamb chops in the reduced section of Tescos earlier, so bought them with the intention of eating 2 for dinner and putting the other 2 in the freezer. Problem was that when I got off the bike I was hungry so the 4 chops were cooked and eaten!!!

3 laps of the outside.

With Rob Jnr and Andrew plus another young fella. Rob Snr is not running at the moment, taking a break to get rid of injuries.

Warm this evening but not as bad as last couple of evenings. Big grey cloud south around Scartaglin but thankfully stayed away.

Andrew joined me for the first 400 for 4 of them. He also helped out on my last 2 by running the straight with me for my 5th, and for the last 250 of the last one. That company was definitely welcome as it got me through.

Really for the 1st one wrong, badly wrong, looks great on paper but certainly wasn't aiming for it. The plan was to run mid-low 1.50s. For some reason I didn't pay enough attention to the watch on the first one, and also miscalculated the times for 200s. Anyways it hurt.

1.46 (followed by 1.18 recovery)
1.52 (1.10 recovery)
1.53 (1.02 recovery)
1.53 (1.03 recovery)
1.53 (1.04 recovery)
1.53

Recoveries got better but I suppose the longer recovery after the first one is reflective of the extra effort. Pleased with the consistent times for the other 5. Bang on. Plan on doing these Wednesday sessions for all of August, or at least until the 10k.

Legs feeling ok after the session but got tired for the last lap. Plenty of flies around too.

Was under a small bit of self enforced pressure getting out this evening, bacon & cabbage was going to be on the table in Killarney at 7.15. Traffic very slow in Killarney so that pissed me off too so not the best start mentally but got over it once pedalling.

Could feel some tiredness in my legs starting off but once they warmed up it was ok.

My time for the climb isn't getting better, but haven't been on the bike enough to address that issue. So maybe it'll come down in the coming weeks.

Warm out, humid, but not as much low cloud as yesterday so it was nice up at Ladies View.

Was following a Nissan Pathfinder on the descent, it slowed me down!

Think I struggled near the end due to being a bit low. Know why though.

Start of another week of training. Legs feel tired this morning, even walking they are tired. Doesn't mean they get a day off though! They are getting 3 days off next weekend but only if they behave themselves this week and do what they are told.

Was half thinking of making an appearance at Farran Wood tomorrow but the 1.15 to 1.30 of driving to get there from Tralee is putting me off. And also feel my upcoming races would be better served by training as opposed to a short run in Farran.

Monday - Running (easy loop in Muckross)
Tuesday - Cycling (Ladies View)
Wednesday - Running (intervals)
Thursday - Cycling (club spin)
Friday - Rest
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - Rest

Heading to Scotland on Friday for the wedding of Mushy_Pea & Tisteln, not bringing training gear! Home on Sunday, so a slim chance of doing something that evening.

Muckross

Usual low route. Very warm again today. But some sun. Think going in the direction of Molls Gap would've been a bad idea if cycling had been on the cards like it is tomorrow, definitely looked like it was damp in that direction, and there was some moisture in the air close to Torc. Also some at home so looks like the mountains are attracting the cloud.

Right calf a small bit tight at work but stretched it regularly. Felt ok running and afterwards so that's good.

Felt comfortable this evening running despite the tired legs this morning.

Good few tourists in the Park.
